View Full Version : MacRumors NFL Fantasy Football League 2009

So the last few years my wife has played in a work league at Fanball. Last year I joined a random league on NFL.com. So where do you all think is the best place to play and why? Please give me pros and cons and any associated costs involved. I'm thinking of starting a league this year with some old friends and I'd like to find the best place for us to do it. I would definitely like to find somewhere that is free or at least very low cost. I really don't have money to blow on Fantasy Football.
Also, if there's not one already, I think it would be cool to have a MacRumors fantasy league if anyone is interested. :)

I've done both Yahoo and ESPN fantasy leagues in MLB and NFL as a casual player. Can't say which one was actually better, but I have been doing more on ESPN the last year or so.
+1 for a MR League(s) if we can get it organized correctly.

Anyone else interested? I know we have a lot of NFL fans around here and I can't believe computer forum members don't play fantasy football. ;)

I use to play on a league that used CBS Sports to manage it. It was good, I really liked it.

^^+1; my league plays on CBS sportsline and they are pretty dope. Yahoo is cool too but you have to buy the live-feed-update-tracker-thingy which is $10 for the season.

I'm up for a MR-based league as well, as long as we could find a common time to do a draft that works for all involved. 10-team leagues are the best.

Allright folks, I'm going to send private messages to everyone in this thread who said they would be interested in a MR league. If you know of anyone else on here then encourage them to post in this thread and I'll send them a message as well. It would be great if we could get a 10 -12 team league set up. I'll set it up, probably on ESPN, but I've heard good things about the new FOX system. Anyhow, anyone who wants to beat me to the punch can go ahead and send me a message if you want to. Make sure to give me an outside email address so I can set up the invitations to join the league.
I think this will be fun. We don't have long to set up the draft, about three weeks.
Talk to you soon. :)

To those who are playing or want to play and don't know anything about Fantasy Football, check out all of the major sports sites like, ESPN, CBS Sports, NFL, FOX Sports, Yahoo, etc.. They all have fantasy sections that will tell you more about the game, how to play, how to draft good players etc.. It may seem intimidating, but it's actually pretty easy. Of course some basic knowledge of football is needed.
Thanks to those who have responded, this is going to be a lot of fun. :)

Allright everyone, last time I checked there were still three people who had not yet joined the league (answered their invite). If for some reason you have not received your invitation then please let me know. I resent invites last night. I've also sent out an email about the live draft. Right now we are targeting this Wednesday at 8:00 PM US Central time. That means it's after 5:00 on the west coast and not too late for the East Coast. I'm not sure if we have any international players. I need everyone to send me an email or post here to let me know if this works. Obviously, we are not going to find a perfect time that works for everyone, but we'll do our best to accommodate the majority of players. I'm getting really excited as we get closer to the season. This should be a lot of fun.
Oh yeah, I also went to the Cowboys vs. Titans preseason game last Friday. It was the first game in the new stadium. All I can say is WOW! That place is amazing. And just in case you were wondering, I'm from Nashville originally, so the Titans are my #1 team.

Sorry J do you have a friend or someone who could draft for you until you get out of Cali traffic? I was in a league a couple of years ago where a guy totally forgot about the draft and he was out on the lake drunk with no internet access. He called his brother at the last minute who signed on for him to do his draft. The brother made great picks and the guy actually won the entire league.

To those of you who expressed interest in joining the league, but didn't hear from me. I'm sorry, we capped the teams at 12. I think there's only two of you that have inquired after that point. If you guys can rally some others maybe we could get enough up to have a second league of 8 or more teams.

Each player is locked in at 5min before kickoff of their game. So, if you have any Titans or Steelers on your roster and you want to play them then make sure they are in your starting line up before game time tonight. It's going to be a fun season and tonight should be a great game. I can't wait to get home from work. :D

Week 2 winners are fireshot91, the Gauchoholics (gauchogolfer), rhett7660, Miller High Life (barr08), Berlin Pretzels (creator2456), and mscriv.
The high score of the week is mscriv with 149 (Go me!) :D
The new poll question on the league main page is: "So whose team came from nowhere to win their game in week 2? Looking at the match up there is no way you thought they would have won." Sign in and let everyone know what you think.
Gauchogolfer is 2-0 and he wants to know why no one is talking smack. He states, "Hey, most of the fun in fantasy football is giving the other owners hell." Let's try and not let him down this week.
In fact, I'll get us started. I play imaketouchtheme in week 3 and it's not even going to be close. Not only is his name silly, but his team is weak. Listen touch-yourself or whatever your name is, you better hope the Eagles D pulls out another miracle because that's the only chance you've got. :p

The New York Jets will play their first AFL legacy game this season, as they take on the Tennessee Titans tomorrow in Giants Stadium. Both teams will be wearing their original AFL franchise uniforms of 1960. Tennessee leads regular season series between the teams, 21-16-1. Interestingly, the Titans of New York (the original name of the Jets) never beat the Houston Oilers (the original name of the Titans) - they lost all 6 games to the Oilers in 1960-1962.

Quite the conundrum, it is.
So true. Nothing messes with simply cheering for your team like playing fantasy football. It's changes everything about how you watch and appreciate the game. It's so funny to find yourself actively rooting against an individual player or position. You know your playing fantasy football when you get ticked that your team scored, but with the "wrong player". :p

In Yahoo, the stats that get instantly updated the day of the games are always a little bit off. They recalculate that night due to updated stats (off a few yards), etc. I assume this site works the same way.

The league manager has the right to adjust points in each game if there is a reason to do so. In this case I thought you needed to work a little harder to get the win. :D
I'm totally kidding. It's exactly what barr08 said. The immediate "live" stats may be off a few points here or there depending on the circumstances of the game like penalties, yardage, etc. So, basically stats are subject to change as the NFL reports the official game stats. You have to remember the NFL counts loss of yards against your players as well. So if your RB gets stuffed for a 4 yard loss then he loses 4 yards from his accumulated total thus far in the game. I guess it's fair, but it totally stinks.

This week's winners are mscriv (lucky to back up my smack talk this week), Jessica (oh the down to the end drama), thegoldenmackid (congrats on your first win), rhett7660 (another close one that was decided last night) , wvuwhat (a 2nd big game for Matt Shaub), and the Berlin Pretzels (creator2456).
The high scorer of the week was the Pretzels with 131.
Overall, our league seems pretty balanced. Most teams are 2-1 or 1-2. We have one remaining undefeated team at 3-0 (rhett7660) :) and one remaining winless team at 0-3 (maflynn) :(
Don't forget you can always try to improve your team by setting up some trades with your fellow players. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and lots of times a trade can be made that improves both teams. I'll put up a new main page poll question later today and let you know what it is.

maflynn you've got a good team. Just be patient as fantasy has it's ups and downs. In week 1 you were the victim of the 2nd highest score of the week not to mention the Eagles D having the best performance they will all year long. It also didn't help that Braylon Edwards and Joey Galloway severely underperformed for you. In week 2 you lost to me as I posted the high score of the week due to Frank Gore and Dallas Clark having huge days. In week 3 you lost to the Pretzels who were the high score of the week with Jason Campbell and Reggie Wayne having big days.
You're actually the 3rd highest scoring team in the entire league behind Gaucho and myself. Your putting up good scores, but you happen to be playing teams when they have one of their best weeks.
I guess what I'm trying to say is hang in there. To everyone else what I'm trying to say is look forward to when you play maflynn because chances are you'll post one of the top two scores of the week. :p

Thanks for nothing Devin Hester. Somehow in the Bears 48 points you managed to get 1 measly fantasy point, and I've benched Devery Henderson in favor of you against the Lions today. I'm going to get killed this week by the Pretzels, who are doing really well.

And to think we had an the same projected score as late as Saturday afternoon.
That is possible...I got 39 from the 49ers D, so if the Packers can hold Min to 0 and run like no other against a good run defense, you have it made!

This weeks winners are mscriv, Jessica, imaketouchtheme, Berlin Pretzels, rhett7660, and miller high life. The high score of the week was berlin pretzels with 162. Only four teams broke 100 points as it was a slow week overall except for those defenses and TE's that came up big.
So we're a quarter of the way through the season and things are looking interesting:
- rhett7660 remains undefeated despite ranking 6th in overall points scored thus far (404)
- maflynn is winless with more points scored against him than any other team (494) and joining him jecapaga is winless with the fewest points scored in the league (336)
- rhett7660 leads the "mac" division at 4-0
- berlin pretzels leads the "osx" division at 3-1
- jessica leads the "ipone" division at 3-1
- four teams in the league have winning records, 5 teams break even at this point, and 3 teams have losing records
- 162 by berlin pretzels this week is the highest weekly score thus far in the season
- 58 by maflynn this week is the lowest weekly score thus far in the season
- Peyton Manning (thegoldenmackid) at 113 points is the highest scoring QB in the league and the highest scoring fantasy player thus far
- Steve Smith (jessica) at 98 points is the highest scoring WR in the league thus far
- Chris Johnson (thegoldenmackid) at 83 points is the highest scoring RB in the league thus far
- Dallas Clark (mscriv) at 73 points is the highest scoring TE in the league thus far
- The 49ers D (berlin pretzels) at 65 points is the highest scoring Defense in the league thus far
- Lawrence Tynes (rhett7660) and Stephen Gostkowski (jessica) at 38 points are the highest scoring K's thus far in the league
- Drew Brees remains the season's single game highest scorer with his week one 51 point performance
- There have only been two trades in our league thus far, but the waiver wire is worked over every week
I've updated the poll on the main league page if anyone wants to vote. The question is "So who were you pulling for in last night's much hyped showdown between the Packers and Vikings?"

One additional thought looking at the stats. Rhett7660 and Jessica are leading their divisions with winning records and what do they have in common? Yep, as I said above, their kickers are tied for having the highest points thus far. So, I guess we can't believe all those analysis experts that say kickers don't matter. :D

What was the biggest point difference so far in the season? 57 points must take the cake (I lost 162-95).
Anyways, week 5 should be my worst week, because half my team is on a bye.

Something VERY strange is going on with the league. Anyone else getting an email about a new draft and seeing new standings and points and almost everything?
It's my doing. I'm sending out an official email right now. What happened is when setting up the league I intended to give everyone two IR slots for any player injuries that might occur.
I called ESPN Fantasy customer service to inquire about how to add the slots and the guy on the phone told me all I had to do was reset the draft and then reassign the rosters. I asked him specifically if it would delete any league information or statistics that were already in place and he said no. Well, he was wrong, and it did. When you clear the rosters it removes each week's individual scores, but it does keep the weekly matchups as they were. Then when you reset the rosters it retroactively scores the previous weeks. Sounds good right, wrong. It didn't save roster adjustments because the computer has no way of knowing who was started and who was benched in weeks 1 - 4.
So, I had printed out everyone's roster and records as they currently were and thus I have given everyone their correct players and their correct record. I was able to adjust the weekly scores to get as close to accurate as possible, but some of the overall scoring could be a little bit different from what was in place before. It's a good thing I was doing the weekly post in this thread because it provided me with information that I needed to get everyone's record correct.
At this point, I need everyone to go in and check their rosters to make sure they have the starters they want in for week 5. You should be doing this anyway since the bye weeks are now upon us.
With this change everyone will now see two IR slots in their line up. If you have a player who is listed as out by his team then you can put him in the IR slot and he will not count against your bench or total roster. Feel free to leave the player there as long as you want, however, if the team changes his status then you will not be able to add other players to your team until you remove him from the IR slot because he will no longer be "out".
Let me know if you have any questions. I'm sorry about all the confusion. :o

People always come to me with clever ways to get around blocked sites - I hear you can add an 's' to most sites after 'http', as the safe versions of the pages aren't blocked - but there is a 0 tolerance policy that I don't want to mess with in this economy.

Not sure on that one.
I am sure that I have pulled out a horrible week. What was I thinking starting Campbell instead of Cutler? Barrian was looking to have a big week and it is Rice who does. I'm already 45 points under what my projected total was a the start of the day. So much for that 2-game lead.:mad:

Any true Redskins fan would've told you that Campbell sucks. He got benched after the second quarter, and with him, Clinton Portis. But then, Portis got back in the game, and got me like 11 points, so, it's all good. :D.
I'm thinking I've won this week, but anything can happen tomorrow night. Me and Miller High Life are very close. On Friday Night, it was projected that we were going to be a tie, but that changed, with his favor. Now, it looks like I'm going to win.
I'm just mad that I was in a hurry Saturday night and started the Seahawk's defense instead of Pats. I just looked at the projections, and saw that Seahawk's were higher. Little did I know that the Pats were going against the Titans.

This is common. The official numbers for each player comes in overnight and fantasy stats are always a little off. I think if you do the math you'll find Big Ben's point total exactly where it should be.
That being said, with my K scored the way he did tonight, it looks like i edged you out by 1 point. So we'll see if overnight stat corrections come back to bite me.

417 passing yards = 20 points

two touchdowns = 12 points
1 int = -2 points

20 + 1 + 12 - 2 - 2 = 29

It was a huge week for scoring points across the board with 9 of our 12 teams posting 100 or more. This weeks winners are mscriv (go me!), maflynn, imaketouchtheme, team gauchoholics, jecapaga, and miller high life (barr08). The weekly high score was 175 posted by yours truly. Jecapaga got his first win this week and thus we have no undefeated and no winless teams in our league. At this point the league seems to be holding true to the "any given sunday" mantra with the best teams in the league at 4-2 and the worst team in the league being only 3 games back. It's truly anybody's game at this point. Remember you play each team in your division twice and every other team in the league once. So, if your behind in your division then you've got plenty of time to mount a comeback.
I really hope you guys are having as much fun as I am. We've got a good league going with active team owners which always makes it enjoyable. :)

That's a question that will haunt you the rest of the season my friend. Unfortunately, this year the Titans are right there with the Rams, Lions, Browns, Bucs, and Raiders as teams you should always play your defense against. Sometimes it's even worth picking up a defense just for the weekly matchup if your regular defense is going against a tough team.
Losing by one point when you have someone that exploded on your bench totally stinks. Last week I lost by one point in another league with Michael Turner, Braylon Edwards, and Heath Miller on my bench. That's 60 points for those of you keeping track at home. :( What made it totally unbearable is it's a league of old fraternity brothers and I was playing my "big brother" who still hasn't stopped hounding me.

The league rule for a tie is that the team with the most bench points wins. It's rare, but if the bench scores are a tie then I believe the game is considered a tie and remains that way on the books.

Team jessica (3-4) 85 vs. Dallas MSCRIV (5-2) 127
Team thegoldenmackid (3-4) 101 vs. Pittsburgh imaketouchtheme (4-3) 93
Team rhett7660 (5-2) 167 vs. Team Gauchoholics (3-4) 128

Team maflynn (3-4) 115 vs. Team jecapaga (1-6) 70
Berlin Pretzels (5-2) 108 - Bench = 74 vs. miller high life (4-3) 108 - Bench = 40
As you can see above, this week's high scorer was rhett7660 who posted 167 points thanks to his power duo of Tony Romo and Miles Austin who combined for 71 points between them. Pretzels and High Life posted our first tie of the season. The highest scoring individual player of the week was Carson Palmer with 41 points and yes he was sitting on the Pretzels bench, which ended up being important due to the tie.

This could just be because I'm the team that lost out on this, but in the years and years I have been playing fantasy, I have never seen ties dealt with in this way. Just like the NFL, ties should be reflected on the team's record. Why espn does this is just way past me. I mean it doesn't even make sense - half of fantasy is making the right starts, your bench players do not and should not have any relevance at all.

I hear your frustration and understand your point, but I guess I see both sides of the issue. In the first fantasy football league I ever played, not an ESPN league, ties were decided this way. I can't say this is the rationale for sure, but I guess it makes the owner place greater emphasis on having the best overall team possible. This affects how you draft and how active you are on the waiver wire or in making trades. Now I fully understand that bye weeks can do a number on you if a majority of your bench is on a bye, but you've got to pay attention to bye weeks when you draft and plan out your team moves as well.
Just FYI other options for breaking the tie include setting it up where the designated home team wins the tie or assigning certain positions as tie breaker positions. For example whoever has the higher scoring QB or RB's etc.. I think you can also set it up that the tie stays a tie on the record. The way our league is set up now the only way to have an official tie is for the two teams to tie in both starting players score and bench players score.
Sorry you're disappointed, it definitely sucks to lose this way. :(
If it makes you feel any better in another league I lost by one point for the second week in a row. And the killer is that on the Eagles final drive of the game there was a play that would have given me the win, but a penalty called it back.

Sure, but you still have 3 very good RBs, and one of the best TEs in Celek. Why do you need McMichael, who's totally washed up? I don't know why you would even consider making this trade considering what you're getting back.
If you're so hard up for a K I'll be glad to send Nate Kaeding your way for TJ.
You need better WRs, and for a top 5 RB you should be able to at least get 1 top 5 WR in return.

I've vetoed this trade and the following message has been sent out.
After reviewing the particulars this trade has been ruled too one-sided to be allowed and has been vetoed by League Manager mscriv. I've got to veto this guys based on player values and the fact that it is being disputed by others in the league. I now understand that you are not paying attention Jecapaga and I'm disappointed to hear that. If you are still open to making trades despite your non-interest in managing your team that's okay, but those trades must be legit in order to be fair to everyone else in the league who is paying attention. If you guys can rework the trade where it is more appropriate based on player values then I will be more than happy to approve it. I'm not very strict on trades and usually don't like to make these kind of decisions because it's not always easy to decide player values based on different owner's playing styles and needs. However, in this case I can only judge based on player value because Jecapaga has openly stated that he is not invested and therefore is not even taking his team's needs into account.
Sorry guys, nothing personal to anyone, just trying to be a fair league manager.

You've got four solid WR's and two starting QB's. If you want a quality RB you are going to have to give up more than scrap running back's and TE's. I made you a trade offer earlier in the season that included good RB's, but you didn't want to give up Fitzgerald. In fantasy you have to consider people's needs and think to yourself if you would be willing to make the trade were the circumstances reversed. Don't give up, you've got good trade pieces, but you will have to sacrifice a little bit.

No, if the starters scoring results in a tie then you look at whose bench scored more points to break the tie.
Barr08, I actually feel really bad for you. I was checking scores as I watched the end of the game and thinking to myself that your game was a close one, but it's over now because surely the Saints will just kneel down and run out the clock. I couldn't believe they ran it with Mike Bell and that he had the ball stripped. Sorry GMK, but I was actually hoping Barr08 would pick up another point with a Roddy White pass in the final seconds because it was just too cruel to consider a second week in a row tie that would result in a loss. :(

Team fireshot91 (3-5) 68 vs. Team rhett7660 (6-2) 129

Team thegoldenmackid (4-4) 119 - Bench = 66 vs. miller high life (4-4) 119 - Bench = 10
As you can see above mscriv posted the high score of the week with 131. Sadly, miller high life lost for a second week in a row as the result of the tie breaker rule. As you said yourself, what are the odds! The highest scoring individual player of the week was a tie between Chris Johnson (thegoldenmackid) and Aaron Rodgers (maflynn) who both scored 37 points. Unfortunately for maflynn Rodgers was on the bench. :o
Well, we're half way through the actual NFL season and we are just over half way through our fantasy season with 6 weekly match-ups left before we start the playoffs. At this point:
- Mscriv and Rhett7660 are tied for the lead of the Mac Division at 6 - 2
- Berlin Pretzels is leading the OSX Division at 5 - 3
- Miller High Life and Jessica are tied for the lead of the iPhone Division at 4 - 4
There are 3 teams in our league with winning records, 6 teams in our league at .500, and 3 teams in our league with losing records. Mscriv has the highest scoring total thus far with 1016 total points scored. Jecapaga has the fewest overall points scored with 632. The Gauchoholics have had the most points scored against them, 934, while imaketouchtheme has the fewest total points scored against a team with 758.
If the season ended now the six playoff teams would be seeded like this:
#1 Mscriv - Division winner (first round bye)
#2 Berlin Pretzels - Division winner (first round bye)
#3 Miller High Life - Division winner
#4 Rhett7660 - Wildcard
#5 imaketouchtheme - wildcard
#6 Gauchoholics - wildcard
The first round of the playoffs would be Seed #3 vs. #6 and Seed #4 vs. #5. If this is confusing to you then you can check the league rules. Basically, ties in the divisions and wildcard teams are ranked by overall points scored. The three division winners are automatically in the playoffs with the top two teams winning a first round bye. The remaining three teams are wildcards.
I wanted to go over this to make sure everyone understood and could ask questions if they needed.
Just for fun. At this point in the league:
- Matt Schaub (wvuwhat) is the highest scoring QB, and overall player, in our league with 198 points
- Adrian Peterson (rhett7660) is the highest scoring RB in our league with 160 points
- Reggie Wayne (berlin pretzels) is the highest scoring WR in our league with 153 points
- Dallas Clark (mscriv) is the highest scoring TE in our league with 119
- The Saints (imaketouchtheme) are the highest scoring defense in our league with 103 points
- Lawrence Tynes (rhett7660) is the highest scoring kicker in our league with 70 points
(All of these high scorers were drafted by their team owners)
I know there was a trade vetoed recently in the league, but don't give up hope. There's still plenty of time to make some deals as our trade deadline is not until November 25th.
If you have any questions or thoughts then feel free to post here or send me an email. I'm still having a blast and feel we have a great league going. It's truly anybody's game as close at the divisions are. Maybe next year we'll all throw in a little cash and award the league winner with a new iPod or something. After all, it is a MacRumors league. :D

I think changing it right now is possible, but I'm not sure how fair it is to do so mid season. While I understand the frustration and see how it would definitely help Barr08 it would not help those who won the two ties we've had thus far. The problem with ties is when it comes to looking at standings ties really count more like a loss for all involved. I guess if everyone in the league votes in favor of changing this rule than we could do so, but like GMK has suggested it might be better to wait until next season to make the change. I'm open to people's feedback.

I'm definitely not recommending we go back and change what has already happened. I believe it should be changed going forward. I'm fine with those two losses, as long as we are learning from our mistakes.
The rules of a Fantasy league should be a composite of how each member of the league feels FF should be played and scored. What do the rest of you think about the tiebreak rules? It looks like many of you feel we should wait until next season, which is fine.
Personally, though, as a long time and serious FF player, this rule has stuck out to me as ridiculous since it happened the first time. I believe that the league should reflect the rules of the NFL as much as possible. Ties are part of the NFL, as they are part of almost every other professional sport.
From a fantasy perspective, I consider the players who you choose to start much more important than those you choose to sit. I mean, this seems obvious to me - you have a pool of players, and you start and sit based on matchup, current streaks, etc. Being penalized for who is on your bench just seems silly. They're on your bench for a reason - you, as the manager of your team, made the active choice not to play these players.
I would love to debate this further if anyone thinks it's worth it. If not, I'll quietly go back to my corner, and we can totally move on!

I'm fairly positive that the way the league is set up I can not change the rule without changing the previous games because the system adjustment will retroactively affect the entire season. It's like the ESPN support guy telling me I could add the two IR slots and it wouldn't change past games. Yeah right buddy, it did!
That's why I made the post above about possibly needing to wait until next season. I think it would be good to take suggestions and questions from everyone's experience this season and then make league adjustments next year based on the feedback.
I'm fine with those two losses, as long as we are learning from our mistakes.
Don't you mean you need to learn, from these "mistakes", about how to choose better starters? :p

I could be off here, but my observation has been that defensive stats tend to not always show up until later. It seems that things like safeties, sacks, and defensive TD's aren't always counted in the system immediately. For example, yesterday the Jets D blocked a punt and ran it in for a defensive score. Well, the live stat tracker showed the kick block and awarded two points for that, but even late into the night there was no 6 points accounting for the defensive score. That's just weird that two stats on the same play would not show up simultaneously. Sorry fireshot, if I recall you fell prey to this same thing earlier in the season as well.

This week's high score was 136 posted by mscriv (Go Me!) thanks to Wes Welker going off with 15 catches on the day. I love being in a PPR league. :D The highest individual scoring player of the week was Matthew Stafford (sitting on the waiver wire) who passed for over 400 yards and 5 touchdowns in a barn burner against the Browns. He ended up with 47 fantasy points for the game. The three Division leaders each won this week and remain tied at 8-3 with three weeks to go before the playoffs start. It's a tight race for those two coveted first round playoff byes. Overall, there are still 9 teams out of 12 battling for playoff spots. I think this speaks well of our league, both in terms of competitiveness and active management. Thanks for making this so much fun everyone. :)
The trade deadline is tomorrow, November 25, so if you want to make an offer to someone than get on it ASAP. Please remember that I can not push trades through on my own. A trade must be accepted by both parties before I am even made aware of it in the system. In fact when a trade is accepted I believe an email goes out to everyone in the league.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and don't forget there are 3 games on Thursday so get your line up set before you carve the turkey.

If Brady and Moss combine for less than 20 points than that means the something went very wrong in the Patriots game plan. Funny how fantasy changes your outlook on things. I never actually rooted for a player to get injured until I started playing fantasy football. :D

What gets really frustrating is when you play in multiple leagues. Often you end up caught between a rock and a hard place because you need a specific player on your team to do well for you in one league, but that same player is going against you in another league. It's enough to drive you mad. :p

I'm running 4 leagues this year. I didn't intend to do that, but it just kind of happened. It hasn't been too bad and I'm actually doing quite well in three of them. With some luck over the next couple of weeks I'll actually make the playoffs in all four. :)

Team jecapaga (1-11) 63 vs. miller high life (9-3) 107
As you can see above this weeks high score of 158 was posted by mscriv (two weeks in a row) thanks to big performances by several players over the holiday. The stud individual player of the week was Drew Brees who posted 48 fantasy points with over 370 yards and 5 TD's in a royal thumping of the Patriots last night.
We've got two weeks of regulation play left before the playoffs start and it's as close as ever with the three division leaders still tied and the wild card leaders holding on to their spots with only a one game lead. This is truly the most balanced league in which I've ever played. It's crazy to think how much closer things could have been if jecapaga and jessica would have remained active throughout season.
The trade deadline has come and gone so the waiver wire is now your only source for player moves.
I hope everyone here in the states had a good holiday and enjoyed watching the games as much as I did while recovering from my numerous helpings of thanksgiving treats. :)

Thank you so much kind sir. I do my best. Even in texts messages I strive to be a proper grammarian. Berlin Pretzels (9-4) 69 vs. Team jessica (6-7) 106
Pittsburgh imaketouchtheme (6-7) 135 vs. miller high life (9-4) 129
The high score of the week was put up by Pittsburgh imaketouchtheme who racked up 135 points with 6 of his 9 starters scoring 15 or more and Phillip Rivers alone putting up 30. The highest scoring individual player of the week was Tony Romo (Rhett7660) who earned 37 points on 353 yards and 3 TD's against the Giants.
What a tough league we have. All three division winners lost and now there's 4 teams with a league leading record of 9-4. Going into the last game before the playoffs the Mac Division is up for grabs with Rhett7660 and Mscriv in a tie. Miller High Life has secured the iPhone Division and Berlin Pretzels has locked up the OSX Division. One of the three wildcard spots is locked up with either Rhett7660 or Mscriv taking it. The remaining two playoff invitations are a heated battle between seven teams who still have a chance! How exciting, for some it's like the playoffs start next week in the final game of the season.

Any idea how MHL has the #2 seed over me (Pretzels)? I won our head-head with the tiebreaker and we are both leading our division. Is it total points? Home/Away Win/Loss (I only had 7 home games, he had 10)? Division Win/Loss?
I ask this now, but it may not make a difference after this week, but that 1st round bye sure looks nice.

Tie break is determined by overall total points scored by your team. I think that's pretty standard as it's been that way in every league of which I've been a part. I think it's done this way because you can't just go by division record on account of wildcard slots often being up for grabs between multiple teams from multiple divisions. Total points scored also seems to be a better measure of a team's overall success throughout the season as opposed to picking out one exceptionally good or bad week as the determing factor. Our league is a good example of this as the final two wild card slots will probably come down to a total points scored tie break between two or more teams since at present seven are in contention.
The other option is you can always send a little $ to the league managers paypal account... shhh, it'll be our secret. ;)
Life gets in the way and some things have to give. But I am #2 in my other one which nets me $1200 right now if I make it. ;)

Brandon Marshall is my problem.
MHL, this is coming down to the wire. If either of us wins and the other loses, the winner gets the bye. If we both win/lose, I need to have 10+ points on you this week to get the bye.
Just simply amazing how one bye is being decided with a head-to-head division game and the other comes down to the last game and possibly a tiebreaker that is within 10 pts.

In other news I'm leading by 1 point with wvuwhat still to play Steve Breaston tonight, so I think I'm a goner. Of course, he could always put up Moss-like numbers and net 0 points too.
I was so pumped when the Titans got the last INT at the end of the game yesterday, putting me over the top! (for the moment).

Total points scored by your team is the tiebreaker. So if there are multiple teams with the same record then they will be ranked for playoff contention by who's team has the highest overall total points scored for the season.
As far as Marshall having the highest individual score I think it might be Chris Johnson. I know Brees put up 51 points in one of the first few games and I thought Chris Johnson had done better than that. I'll have to check.

With the total points tiebreaker I have the following team rankings for those of us on the bubble (all at 7-7):
Pittsburgh is in with 1587 points.
I'm currently next with 1474, but fireshot is right behind with 1449 and both Anquan and Larry still to play tonight, so they're the next favorites.
Jessica and wvuwhat are farther down with 1283 and 1354 and look to be eliminated.
Fireshot also needs 37 points more than the 49rs D (and that's pretty directly correlated) from Mssr. Boldin and Fitzgerald to win his matchup this week and get to 7-7. Any less than that and he finishes at 6-8 and I'm the last qualifier.
Boy will I be rooting for a strong 49er D and Arizona running attack tonight!

How exciting! Last week the Boldin/Fitzgerald combo were my undoing with each putting up 28 points. I certainly didn't think Warner would come back from the concussion so strong and no one thought they would put the smack down like that against the Vikings whose defense is much better than the 49ers. Sorry this is late folks I've been busy with getting ready to go out of town for the holidays.
Team rhett7660 (9-5) 137 vs. Dallas MSCRIV (10-4) 145
Team thegoldenmackid (6-8) 118 vs. Team maflynn (5-9) 87
Team wvuwhat (7-7) 94 vs. Team Gauchoholics (7-7) 93
Berlin Pretzels (9-5) 90 vs. Pittsburgh imaketouchtheme (7-7) 134
miller high life (10-4) 148 vs. Team fireshot91 (6-8) 97
Team jessica (7-7) 97 vs. Team jecapaga (1-13) 54
Last week's high scorer was Miller High Life who put up 148 with Andre Johnson leading his team by scoring 42 points on his own. However, the most valuable player on his team was definitely the 49ers D that not only put up 24 points but shut down the opponents Cardinals WR's. The individual highest scoring player of the week was Brandon Marshall (imaketouchtheme) who totaled 53 points on 21 catches, 200 yards, and 2 TD's.
Well, tonight's game kicks off the playoffs and boy did it come down to the wire regarding who made the post season. The playoff bracket with seeding and match ups are as follows:
#1 mscriv claiming a first round bye and playing the winner of #3 Berlin Pretzels vs. #6 Team Gauchoholics
#2 miller high life claiming a first round bye and playing the winner of #4 Rhett7660 vs. #5 imaketouchtheme
Rhett7660 easily secured a playoff wild card with his 9-5 record. The remaining two spots came down to a tiebreaker between the Gauchoholics, imaketouchtheme, jessica, and wvuwhat who all finished at 7-7. The two teams with highest scoring totals over the course of the season got in while the other two came up short. For those of you who didn't make the playoffs there is a consolation bracket so don't quit managing your team just yet.
