View Full Version : Crap battery life on 2G. 3.0 to blame, or is it?

So yeah, I know that after the 3.0 update, many people have been getting less than spectacular battery life. I'm curious though, as to whether if it IS actually the 3.0 update or if it's just coincidence and that my battery is dying.

Anyway to tell for sure?

Has the battery life gotten better with 3.0.1?

I think the problem is that this picture overall is inconsistent... there are plenty of us who don't particularly note problems with battery life in 3.0. I've only ever had battery life issues according to use...

- Got my iPhone, 1.1.3, was suddenly on EDGE all the time and listening to music at the same time and had to make sure it lasted until I was home for the night (or if I stayed out that night, worried about it dying while I was on the train home the next day)

- Settled down, no battery issues.

- 2.0 came out and suddenly apps meant I was using it like crazy again, same results.

- Settled down, no battery issues.

- 3.0 and 3.0.1 coincided with some new interesting apps but no real change...

- Civilization Revolution came out and my battery life is all shot to hell. :D

But yeah, it's hard to know what to tell you. You can try another restore of the firmware, and you can try all the tricks you know...

- You might get better battery life if you don't jailbreak just because of stuff that you'd be running in the background
- You get better battery life if push is off
- You get better battery life if notifications are off

Etc....

Restore All Settings under Settings > General > Reset

if that doesn't work them you'll have to Restore as New iPhone in iTunes.

+1. However, this helps more when you go from a 3G or before to a 3GS. You can also see this link about battery life:

I have had the same problem, but found a soultion if you go to settings and you turn push notifications off that will fix it. If push is on your phone is always searching for data from messenger clients to notify you if you received a message. By turning it off your phones battery should go back to normal.

*sorry didn't see someone posted this already

I don't think since the 3.0.1 update that my battery life is any better. I've updated and rejailbroke but it's still meh.

How exactly to you "setup as new" and then make sure all the data is on there?

Did you try what ntrigue suggested? There's a link to how well it works:

However, if you want to setup as new, then you're going to lose some data (all your game saves, stuff like that). You can sync your notes to Mail or Outlook, sync you calendar to iCal or Outlook, and sync your Contacts to Address Book or Outlook (or Windows Address Book). You'll lose your SMS messages unless you copy them with some 3rd party app. I may have forgotten something, but ask if you want to know if you can sync it. The music, apps, photos, videos, etc, can just be resynced as usual using iTunes after you tell iTunes where they are.

You mean turning push off and what not? I've had them off since 3.0 but the problem persists. If SMS is gone though, I might just have to leave it. How effective are the SMS backups?

EDIT - yes I reset all settings too.
