In the words of Michael Irvin, give TheSpaz his due. This is not the thread to give him a hard time on. He actually did a good thing by suggesting this. For those that want to give him a hard time, well I'm sure he'll come up with some crazy thread soon enough. 🙂

Hopefully you weren't refering to me, I just felt it appropriate to add that info so that if people search for info, this can be shared as well. 🙂

But, it does say that it deletes "all" your preferences and settings. To me, "all" would imply that 3rd party app "settings" and "preferences" would be deleted as well.

One final question about this. You stated sounds are set to default. I assume that doesn't mess with the ringtones, correct? Also, all ringtones that are associated with someone in contacts stay the same?

Someone stated the alarms got reset. Not a big deal. However, does all the stuff in the calendar stay put?

Alarms get reset
Ringtones stay
Calendar stays the same

Not sure about custom Contacts ringtones. I think those stay, but I'm not positive.

Hmmm.... some guy who did the method, said he lost his ringtones and lost his calendar events. Is he messed up?

Hmm... Ringtones are part of data that is sync'd to the iPhone through iTunes. They shouldn't get erased. Also, Calendars are sync'd through iTunes, so that's data that shouldn't get erased either. Neither of mine didn't. It set my Ringtone to default, but it didn't delete my custom ringtones from the device.

No, what I meant is he had to sync after. Is that what you had to do......sync, that is?

Okay, I finally did it. Everything was deleted from my iPhone. Damn it SPAZ!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡




j/k Well, it didn't mess with my contact pictures. All calendar stuff stayed the same. All ringtones are still there (default changed, but changed that back). The main thing is the icons get all distributed and you lose the 10 and 11th page, but I added those back easily enough. I'll have to sort them out again some other time. Otherwise worked like a charm. I'll report how it goes on lag and battery over the next few days.

so how is your battery after this? im thinking of doing this but not sure if its worth the trouble.
hopefully you have the 3gs

I have a 3G. My iPhone runs much better, but I haven't finished testing. However, for a 3GS you should see even better results. I suggest doing it. All it does is mess up the location of your icons, so you have to move them back to where you want them. If you have wifi you'll have to put in your password again. Other than that, everything will be the same as it was (oh, it will go back to the default ringtone, but all your ringtones will be untouched, so easy to set it back to whatever you had before). A number of people have tried this though, so feel free to go forward with it. I was hesitant, because I didn't think it would matter for a 3G. It mostly helps those who had a 3G or below and upgraded to a 3GS. But it still helps some, if you didn't. Just make sure you do a reset all settings (and NOT the erase all content).
 
Anyone tried this on a 3GS yet? Be interested to see if it sped things up for you 🙂 I'm sure mine has gotten progressively slower over the last month or so with all the crap i install on on there.
 
i performed this last night just before a full charge of the phone.

I have 43mins of usage and 7 hours 50 mins of standby and my phone is at 84%.

This seems to be alot better than what I was previously getting by quite a margin.

However i did turn off notifications today also so not sure whether that has an effect also.
 
One thing you need to add the OP. Visual voice mail is reset, so you lose your password on your phone (all you have to do is type it in again and everything will be fine from then on). Sorry, but I hadn't got a voicemail until today. I thought something was wrong with my phone, since I kept ignoring the password message. However, once I put it in everyhing is back to normal.
