View Full Version : Has MacRumors Been Slow For Anyone Else?

Over the past few days, MacRumors has been really slow for me, and I really don't know why. I'm not having any issues with other sites. I have a 16 MB connection, and it's taking 10-15 seconds for the front page to load. The forums are even worse. I've even had a few timeouts while trying to load a page in the forums.

Is this just me? Or is this happening to other people also?

I'm on Comcast BTW.

It has oddly been slower for me as well. Either that or I need to sleep.

Sluggish on certain page loads lately. Sometimes I have to go elsewhere for a few minutes and refresh mt MR tabs again.

I've been hearing connectivity troubles in general from my other friends online. Maybe it's a problem higher up across providers.

a number of users have been reporting the issue here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=762435). it isnt 10.5.x specific, nor is it browser specific.

maybe the internet is finally slowing down ;)

Every once in awhile I've had to stop pages from loading and reload. I thought it was my connection, but maybe it's MR.

Probably all the MMS traffic and waiting for 3.1 beta 4 traffic. :)

Arn needs better servers, or a better upload speed:p

we arent lucky enough to have any reliable custom DNS servers over here in australia - i doubt there is even one.

I did notice that on my intels the page would take 5 seconds to start loading randomly though. I just thought it was the fact it is a hackintosh. But I do not know if I have the DNS servers added in yet. On my G4 I get 25 MS adv pings

The forums.

The front page is dead to me when I use Forum Spy.

For me it's both. I'm not having timeout issues anymore, but it's still painfully slow for me. It feels like I'm with AOL again, but only with MacRumors.

It's these blasted iPhone nuts.

Forums. Site is sluggish. On all 3 of my computers and also when using someone else's wifi.

Most of the slowness is from opening a thread from forum spy. Sometimes I have to reload the page or it takes forever. Also, editing posts can be slow

Quite often lately (not always, but more often than not) the forums "hangs" on the new blank page, before it even starts loading, for quite a few seconds whenever I click a link.

Almost like there's an enormous lag in DNS lookup or something...

Here's a traceroute:

Those 6 stars on 10 and 11 took several seconds. And when I traceroute google.com it doesn't take that break in the middle...

Edit: I get this from home (MacBook), work (iMac) and when I was in England recently (iPhone).

Pinging:

forum1.xeeno.com:
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 41.547/51.996/105.109/13.182 ms

forum2.xeeno.com:
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 43.585/51.046/90.943/10.890 ms

DNS Servers:
4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3, 4.2.2.4

web1.xeeno.com (macrumors.com) is the slowest to respond to pings.

I typed "ping forums.macrumors.com"

It's been going for the last 2 minutes.
So far, it's on Sequence 75.

depends where you live...from australia i get a 225ms average ping. that 1163ms ping that you had probably had to wait a little bit because of traffic.

I've notices a little slow down. Mostly the forums as well. Usually with iPhone or iPod news;). A few days ago it would stick when I was trying to post to a thread. At first I though someone was rejecting my usual stupidity but I guess not;). I was thinking it was all the n00bs posting "help with my new 13" MBP" threads and other assorted stupid easily solved problems but it seems to be pervading the post-WWDC rush. Good luck.:o

The forums have been EXTREMELY slow for me tonight. More than a minute to load any thread, plus another minute to load the reply page, and another to post.

Did we lose a server or four?

I guess the ferrets that run the servers at night plugged the power cord back in.

EDIT: And we're back to being slow ... stupid ferrets.

and so bad, particularly when multiple MacRumors tabs were open, that I thought I'd dropped my wireless connection and would reset the router. I eventually figured out it was the site rather than the connection. I suspect this is unrelated but, after the last week or so of updates, it seems to have resolved itself. I suspect it was likely on the server side but can't help but wonder.
