It's only sad if it's also running Mac OS X, which you can't tell from the picture obviously. Microsoft doesn't make the hardware so they can use a Macbook for the picture if they want.

I believe the black is the original, and the white guy is the photoshopped one. Note the super-tanned hands.

Not really. Mac's ( and this may shock you ) are just PC's.
Looks like a stock image from iStock or something like that.

yes, but hp, dell, whoever, are not competitors to microsoft while apple is. so they're supporting a competitor by placing the computer in the scene. if i remember, this isn't the first time a macbook has been used in microsoft ads.

Really? You would have to be a monumental Mac geek to identify it as a Mac in the first place. And, as I said, chances are it's straight of a stock photo library - they didn't 'place' anything.

Software giant Microsoft has apologised for editing a photo to change a black man's head to that of a white man.
The picture, showing employees sitting around a desk, appeared unaltered on the firm's US website.
But on the website of its Polish business unit the black man's head was replaced with a white face, although the colour of his hands were unchanged.
Microsoft said it had pulled the image and would be investigating who made the changes. It apologised for the gaffe.

Is the logo also gone off the back of the Dell monitor?
I think that model has an embossed Dell logo on the back above the mounting point.

It could just be dark, and at a weird angle.
The head doesn't freak me out, and to be honest, neither does the mismatched hand colour. It's not different enough for me to notice at a glance.

In this example, judging from their facial expressions, I think they're looking at a gigantic flying penis.

well it was a poor photoshop job. I can understand why Microsoft would change it for different countries. It not Microsoft being racist but instead just make the photo match the ethic diversity of said counties.
In the US it is much more common to see a black man in an office like that than for the polish in that area it could be very very rare because there are so few African Americans living in that area.

ok, but then how is it not inherently racist? the underlying rationale still was that the presence of a black man would have 'sold' the product less than that of a white man.
even if it was just adapting the message to a racist costumer target, it would still be unacceptable from a company of the prestige (i know, i know) and size of microsoft.
i honestly doubt that the change was a decision of corporate to have country-targeted campaigns, more likely a local ill-advised initiative.
and the irony of such a technically poor job being used in a software giant's ad campaign could be surpassed only if the ad was for an adobe product

I'm sure many of you have seen the news stories about Microsoft's advert being photoshopped to change a mans face, but if you closely in the enlarged photo you can see that the computer on the desk is actually a Macbook. I say this based on the ports that I can see being all on one side, also the floating hinge for the display.

:p:DThat ad dramatically boosted Pepto-Bismol sales in Redmond. On that point, you were apparently 10 hours late. On the point you were trying to make, however, you were years late. Microsoft has always used Macs in its advertising, both print and online. In Microsoft promotional materials, it is fairly common to see Macs with Windows screens Photoshopped on their monitors.

That's one of the biggest myths around.. They USED to be competitors but that battle ended a LONG TIME AGO- MS won.. Apple is actually MS's biggest customer.. MS also invested a lot of cash into Apple over the years.. They're business partners, not competitors..
People tend to forget that Apple is a hardware company that happens to make great software.. They make their money on the sale of hardware.. That doesn't mean they don't make money on software- obviously they do.. But the simple fact is that their business plan is structured so that their software sells their hardware.. iTunes exists to sell iPods... OSX exists to sell macs.. It's a format that works well for everyone..

Who gives a **** if it is a Mac. Microsoft makes money whenever you buy a Mac and put Windows on it. Microsoft could care less if Dell, HP, Sony, all PC manufacturers go out of business, as long as people buying Apple computers buy just as much Microsoft products.

How do you know it has Windows on it, though? If they got a Mac instead of a Dell, HP, etc. they could very well be using it to run OS X.
Also, it's not "could care less", it's "couldn't care less":
