Well I might as well start off the bidding.
I have 4gb of ram, Vertex SSD and Snow Leopard. This thing is seriously quick compared to my old Windows laptop.

My setup isn't much and I will have to add a photo when my camera decides to work. My description of my desk includes an iBook G4, chrome tape holder, stapler, and stapler remover. I also have my small chrome lamp that I got at a sale for $1.00 which I consider one of the best deals I have found at a sale. Anyways, my desk is hard to describe otherwise because it was a custom built by my grandfather for my birthday. It also displays my 50 antique wood cigar boxes which is my current thing I collect besides macs ;)

It's the best computer upgrade I have ever done!!! I only purchased the 60gb version as that is all I need for osx and my other programs. I store all my music etc on an external!

I agree, the SSD is the most beneficial upgrade you can do to a notebook these days.

Really depends on the SSD you get though. The Intel X25s, the OCZ Vertexes, the SuperTalents and the G-Skill Falcons (which are re-branded Vertexes) are really the only ones that will give you a great speed increase. OCZ Solid and anything made by Patriot, A-Data, etc. are pretty terrible and not worth the price at all.

I'll soon be putting a 128GB Falcon in my PC. :) It's going to fly! Photoshop will launch in < 2 seconds. :) I wouldn't mind sticking a 30GB Vertex or something in my MacBook Pro either! Wow!

i view the top monitor in this configuration, which is at eye level and mirrors the macbook.

Do a quick Google search on "subwoofer placement".

i since placed the subwoofer to the floor (mostly because the power cord position wasn't working) and cleaned the wires a bit.

I was unaware they made a 32" model of their LED series. Price?

Samsung UE32B6000VW LED HD Ready 1080p Digital Television, 32 Inch -

I bought mine for 799 from john lewis department store in london (slightly more pricey than you can get it as it included a 5 year warranty)

LINK - http://www.johnlewis.com/230604751/Product.aspx

just to clear something up - the DISPLAY is LCD the BACKLIGHT is led - low power consumption, sharper colours and extreme thinness are the result of this and why the 32" is expensive - after playing cod waw, cod 4 and gta 4 im very impressed!

out of the eleven pictures you felt the need to post, five were mac setup related. just an fyi.

I have a mac - it is in my setup the pictures that i posted in the thread Post Your Mac Setup: Past & Present (Part 10) are pictures of my setup, which includes and are completely centered around my mac and the workspace in which its used. Some examples of posts where there are pics not exclusively of the mac in a given setup.

These are from 3 pages in part 9 of this thread.

Lord Adama's post has 3 out of 5 pics not depicting his mac but showing his setup. obey908 - 3 out of 6. SchneiderMan - picture of a light bulb they were recommending. MAC-PRO-DEMON - pictures of dogs. And last but by no means the only one Darius_Latamus - with 10 pictures out of 20 (and it is a most excellent setup) focusing on his mac.

so in conclusion, if you feel the need to waste time and effort to post a one line deprecating statement, (including something in a quote which i did not say) next time have a think if what your writing is a. correct and b. not going to make you sound a little bit asinine.

just an fyi.

@monkey86: Why do you have 2 Xbox 360s?

2 reasons, 1 - its amazing playing co op with your own screen rather than split screen and 2 - my girlfriend is really into rpg's (final fantasy and star ocean etc) and i play fps's sports and racing so i don't want to have to wait to play while she is spending a couple hours finding creatures or treasure haha!

there is a method in the madness, i cant wait to get my mini dvi to hdmi so i can use the massive screen as my external monitor :D

Kind of what I was thinking, but the text from the bar is indeed black. Maybe a light gray would suffice?
I started out with the background a darker gray color, but it looked very plain.

Note most of their items are only available in-store and delivery is outrageous as it is shipped as "freight" privately.

Heres mine, Hackintosh 2.4Ghz Core 2 Due with 4GB Ram and 2x 1TB HDD's on a 22' Samsung and a 17' Sony. 32gb iPod Touch (1st gen). The Macbook is a 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo hooked up to the TV (a 32' Aquos) for use as a media server. The Speakers are Axiom M60's running through a Harmen Karden AVR354. PS3 as well. I just graduated college and recently moved home, hence no class = not much laptop use, so I just keep it hooked up above the TV for the most part. The speakers were a graduation gift (the best one i got might I add).

I would trade it in as for what most people do with computers these days a laptop can handle it fine... plus you will have the fctor of portability when and if you need it. I guess the only downfall is its extra and also perhaps more wires?

Personally, I don't think it's worth it if you're buying the 24" Apple display. It's ridiculously expensive. Personally, I'd go with a Desktop + Laptop combo. It will usually cost less, and you get two computers instead of one. If I were you I would keep the iMac, and get a netbook or a used MB/MBP. It would cost only as much as, if not less than, a 24" Display, and you get to keep your current desktop computer, which is probably more powerful than any laptop you would consider buying.

And also we do sell Ticonderoga pencils. The schools choose what brands of particular products they want. We have approximately 30 different types of pencils.

I have really been debating selling my iMac and going with a MBP + 24" monitor. I have been using a laptop and monitor setup at work and it has been working out fine. Your setup is awesome.

Thanks. In your case you might be better off just looking for a cheap refurb/used notebook since you already have the desktop and it might cost you more to transition but if you don't really mind then by all means go for it. Its a very versatile setup.

In my case the situation was reversed, i already had the notebook and was thinking about getting an iMac to supplement because i missed having a full kb/mouse/display

However, i figured it was cheaper to just get a display rather than buying another full fledged comp. Plus i'm not really a fan of the iMac chin...it'd make the display too tall/high for comfort viewing on my specific desk. Also keeping two computers in sync is NOT an easy task.

Luckily, i found a great deal on the display (shop around or get a refurb. Don't buy RRP...unless you're loaded of course), which made the decision a no brainer for me

and yes, I know my Ethernet cable is just hanging out, we wired the apt. for gigabit, but ran out of ports (filled up the airport.. damn xbox took my port), so its wireless N for mee until we get a switch

I've recently completed digitizing some old cassette tapes of songs and bits I'd recorded over several years.
I'm about to find out what Garageband can really do after having so far used it to play around with tracks.

Figured I might as well start converting some old commercial tapes as well. Of course some of them are now pretty much useless but the good ones I'll keep, using filters in software and the Sony cassette deck hardwired switches.

included are some past setups.

so ive wanted a laptop stand for a while but didnt feel like spending $50 on a nice one. so i built one.

i took a shelf looking thing off an old desk, cut off the edge of it, made sure everything was nice and smooth as not to scratch my mbp and super glued some cigar tubes to it. lol.

i put a felt pad in the back and the front lip to keep it from getting scratched if it does slide around a bit.

First a more candid pic from a couple of days ago.

I'm assuming that's an ikea desk but what about the part on top of the desk? Do you have a link to it?

Indeed it's an Ikea Vika desk. The top part is Ikea, too, but it was made from a shelf I had leftover from an Ikea TV unit, and I put 8" Ikea Capita legs on it.

You could do the same thing with some similar "shelves" that Ikea may sell. Ikea also uses Effektiv file frame fronts with the Capita legs as add-on tops for the Galant desks. The Effektiv pieces are shorter than the shelf I used, of course, but it's the same idea with having raised sections on your desk.

Thats right, I'm using the X-LINK from Sparkle with beta snow leopard drivers, still a bit buggy at times, doesn't seem to hold screen calibrations properly when rebooting. The other 19" screen is connected to the iMac using a DVI adapter.

the resolutions in portrait mode are 1440x900 60hz refresh, the iMac is a 20" version.

yes it is!

it has 1 blue vertical line and one white horizontal line.

but for 59 it was a steal!

the lines also sometimes disappear.

i think it is a loose connection or something because it you gently touch the screen, the lines disappear.

it is a project from a few years ago i did because my macbook pro kept overheating and i wanted to check at what temp the fans were kicking in.

the LCD is based on this guide http://www.bytecellar.com/archives/000081.php

And yes the ikea dioder lights are RGB - pretty cool as they fade between about 7 colours as well as being static.

I also bought a 5m led strip to run underneath my bed room cupboards - together they look pretty decent!

Thats pretty sweet. I've got a 500MHz iMac G3 with AirPort card setup in my garage for the same reason. Having quick access to the internet while working on the car is great. I have my sitting on a stand above the workbench so hammering and whatnot won't cause any nasty vibrations and damage anything.

Hey guys been on here awhile and decided to post pics of my setup. I use the Mac Pro as a media server, its hooked up to my 50" panasonic plasma via HDMI and fiber optic for movies and other multimedia. It has (2) 500 GB HDs for storage and a 1TB drive for time machine backups, my macbook also backs up to it via my network. I also use it with the line6 GearBox to record and edit music from my guitar. The Mac Pro was originally sitting on the desk as I couldnt get it to fit inside the desk from the front so I eventually had the idea of cutting out a larger hole in the back of the desk and pushing it through (this also gave plenty of airflow) I use the MacBook primarily at college to take notes and internet when I'm waiting in between classes.

This mean light behind my ACD. The light that gives the glowing illusion to the monitor.

OK, kinda thought that but thought I'd ask anyway.

HAHA lol. My current car is an auto (98 Honda Accord), but not my next one (2010 Chevy Camaro)! 6 speed manual ftw! But yeah driving auto is not cool, it sucks.

nah, manual is good in tight traffic too. Only place it really sucks is in places like San Francisco, CA, where the hills are steep. Only sucks with an older car that doesnt have the hill braking protection thing

Nope, auto is still very uncool even in traffic. Infact its the main cause of stop and go. If everyone had manual, instead of constantly stopping people would idle along in 1st and keep a bigger gap to the car infront as it would let you rest your leg, and that in turn would GREATLY improve traffic flow. Anyways, back on topic. :p

I have an 05 RSX and it's an auto booo. but it was a graduation present so I can't really complain. My bike's a 6 speed manual so that's always a good thing :D

Traffic... pfft. my CBR flys through traffic

The monitor is Samsung T260HD.
The first Mini is my main home computer, the second is a home server.

Thanks! I live in Vancouver, BC. And the skin is from Unique Skins. I got the wallpaper from somewhere and used it to make a custom one. Pretty quick service.
Can you PM the picture or tell me it i love that skin

Update to my setup. Finally got some ambient lighting behind my monitor. Looks awesome, now I just need a better camera to take nicer photos.
