Will you be able to change the notification sound from the default SMS?
Also, for Gmail accounts, is the unread message count the number of threaded unread messages, or the total unread account? Example: two new messages until one thread would show as one unread message (which is what I'm looking for as that's how the Gmail webapp keeps track of unreads).

Will you be able to change the notification sound from the default SMS?
There is no possibility of doing so in the first version. However, the ability to customize the notification sound is in development and will be available in the next update free of charge.

It currently shows the total unread count. We will look into adding it as an option to show the unread threads instead of unread messages.

Derek, this was an awesome beta. I tracked it working sometimes faster than even my blackberry push! I see you've added some improvements like the badge number. Is there any chance that you could make the push alert to view open directly to the mail app? I'm glad this is coming out of beta now as I just got my 64 gig ipod touch with different UDID.

I would love the option to open the mail app, or a direct link to gmail in safari from the mail notifier icon.
Great app, works very fast.

I wanted this also and asked him this exact question during the beta. Derek told me that its not possible because Apple doesn't give developers access to launch the Mail app (and other default apps im sure) in the iPhone SDK.

I've beta tested this app and it's amazing! I had GPush but will use this instead. The badge automatically updates even when the message has been read! That's something GPush doesn't do and they claim it's not possible. Works every single time with this app :)
It would be great to choose a sound that isn't the sms sound.
Glad I could help and beta test this app. It's definitely worth the price.

I will absolutely purchase this utility as soon as it's out. Of course I just bought gpush 2-3 days ago (new iPhone). I love having the notification for gmail - and can't wait to have it for hotmail as well too.
Hope it does not take too long to get approved.

Speaking of Hotmail, my school uses Hotmail for student email, but it's not an @hotmail name but uses msn live servers. Would that still work? Also, what about an option to open up something like mBox Mail, which is what I use to read hotmail?
Sounds like a nice program, too.

This was a really well done beta test. Was expecting some glitches here and there but you did a really good job getting this together.
Different alert sounds would be great down the line. A toggle off through the app would be great as well. If apple would allow the auto mail open it'd be perfect. Look forward to see what things you do next.

I notice a bug for hotmail registration. If I add a hotmail account, the app will display a badge of unread emails eventhough I don't have any in that hotmail account. Even if I log into that account, Mail Notifier will not update the badge count eventhough I don't have unread emails in the first place. Normally this will work for other aol/gmails accounts, ie: badge updates itself once said unread emails are read.
EDIT: The only to hide this is to go into Setting>Notification>Mail Notifier>Badges and deactivate badge update.

So far it's working great for Gmail and Hotmail, I don't have the Badge issue mentioned above.
BUT, after testing it today I realized that having one app that Notify me of emails in 2 separate email accounts, should at least identify which email is pushing the email, I mean, to test it I sent an email to gmail and hotmail, it arrived almost immediately to both accounts, but I noticed that the Notification window didn't mention the account it was for. Then I continued receiving regular mails through the day, and then I didn't know again to which account it was for. In my case, I use mBox to get my Hotmail emails, so by nature I need to open it to see if it has new emails, and I use the regular mail account in iPhone to get Gmail emails, that since I was using Gpush before this app, it was set to Manual instead of fetch what it means that I need to open the Mail app also in order to see if it has new mails.
What do I want?, something that can tell me, at least in the alert message, the account that just pushed, OR, maybe, you can use the actual APP interface to do it, right now when you open it it goes directly to show the accounts you have set up, maybe in that screen you can use some kind of badge to show the email counts, although I prefer that the Alert message shows the Account name somewhere.

Are you using POP3 to get your hotmail or an app like mboxmail?
Unfortunately, hotmail's POP3 servers do not mark the emails unread when they are retrieved.

What I really want / need is something like this that allows me to see via badges the number of emails for each account! How to accomplish this is not as easy as it seems. 1) Different color badges on one icon? 2) Multiple icons, one for each account that maybe could be customized (color, name).
Then if I touch the icon it either directly jumps to the inbox of that account (in the case of option #2 above) or pulls up a menu of the accounts that have new mail available for them, or if just one account has mail to it directly for option #1.
Make sense? Any idea if these things are possible?

Unfortunately, hotmail's POP3 servers do not mark the emails unread when they are retrieved.
As far as I know there isn't a direct way of adding hotmail as an IMAP account, unless through another service like izymail.
Unless I'm mistaken? Alternatively I can setup forwarding from the hotmail account to a gmail account. But that is only possible via Hotmail Plus IIRC.

Thanks a lot for listening, I just tried it in both accounts and it's working great now, so I must say, the App is 95% done, if you find a way to open the Mail App with an go or ok button then it will be 100% done and definitely a huge success. Keep up the good work.

I don't know about Gmail because I don't think that I have received any emails since this morning but was wondering what could have changed since it was working so great until yesterday.

Honestly I would not use this app with the hotmail functionality. Hotmail unlike Gmail currently does not offer IMAP access. For those who are less technical, what this means is that in order for this app to provide you push functionality, you must first hand them your username and password and they will log into your hotmail webpage manually to see how many mails are unread. If you are fine with someone opening your hotmail web page then go ahead. Personally that's not what something I can live with.

<<We updated the code in the server and it now shows which account the push notification is for when you have multiple accounts. >>
So my question is, is just a coincidence or changing the code to accomodate for the Email Account Name in the alert message caused this?

All account credentials are transmitted over a secure socket connection and it is encrypted. All passwords are encrypted so no one sees them.
Of course the system does have to login to know if there are new emails to push. Gpush and PushGmail has to do this as well - there is no other way.
Our company enforces strict privacy of all data and there should be no concern whether or not our system is safe.

Though it's not a Push e-mail client, Prowl (http://prowl.weks.net/) has this sort of feature in their latest version. You can set up a "redirection" to open other apps from the Push notification. Several of the built-in Apple apps are available to choose from.

This app would be full of Win if it would redirect to Mail.app when you open it! This would only be useful if all configuring was done in Settings. :D
Then I could just hide my Mail.app icon and use this exclusively. :D

I'm using a 3G.
I'm still missing hotmail emails, it is working randomly, I noticed all changes you have done, but it hasn't solved my hotmail issues, in fact, the notification of this reply, seems that it was on hotmail server since 4:35 PM EST but it never got here as a Push alert, in fact I had 2 emails waiting for me there. On the other side, Gmail seems to be working flawlessly.
Like I've mentioned before, it was working great, until you made the changes to accomodate for what I asked you, about giving details of the email account on the alert message. I mean, it may be just a coincidence, but fact is that it was working great until that moment, right after my alerts began to arrive with the Email account on it, I began missing some Pushes.

Yes it is simple enough just to click on native mail app after getting a notification.
However and i'm not sure its possible, what would be nice is to have a web based version open as an option and if it could identify what account has a notification and open the appropriate web link. That would be cool. The you would only need the native app for sending.

It only works for applications that register a specific URL to be launched with. In the case of the Mail app, it does have a URL, but it launches the compose dialogue instead of the mailbox.

I just d/l'd this app, and set everything up OK. I sent a test email from my Hotmail to my Gmail account and I have yet to received any notifications. I have all the alerts set in the "on" position. When I go into my mail app, the test emails download, but I'm not getting any notifications from the app. Any suggestions?
There was a bug and we fixed it. Let me know if it is working for you now :).

Just bought it and also had my mom buy it for herself. It works pretty good for me but for her it is not working. When trying to add her hotmail account, it always says "invalid credentials". We have tried it several times and have reinstalled the app as well. What can the problem be?
Edit:
My gf also purchased it and is unable to add her hotmail account either. Only her gmail.
EDIT:
After a couple of emails from Technical Support, my problems are now fixed! Thank you very much and awesome support!

also, can it give you an alert when you receive junk mail?

What I do is when I get a push notification on my phone, I go in the mail app, dowload the email, read it, then respond if needed. It really can't get any easier than that!
Derek, congrats on a well design and useful app! I have tried other push email apps prior to Mail Notifier, and hands down, your app is the fastest, easiest and most convenient to use. I received push notifications quicker than the other email push apps I have tried. This is well worth the $5!

You do not get notifications for junk emails. I personally get a lot of spam in my junk mail folder so getting push for them would not be pleasant.
For your case, I would recommend setting up rules in Gmail to move certain emails into certain folders.

Just bought this app after having used GPush for the last couple of weeks.
While GPush worked well for me, i have 4 gmail accounts so this app is a godsend!
One thing I noticed though is that apparently (i did not buy this app to verify or test this) PushGmail (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=329711198&mt=8) has the ability to 'auto launch' Mail.app
At least that is how I interpret their app's screenshot:
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/3742/pushgmail.png
That option would be great, but as you said earlier in the forum, the usability is not diminished by not having this.
One thing that would be nice to have in an update would be:
1. Nicer Push message formatting such as this:
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/9747/pushgmail2.png
2. A way to just dismiss a push, such as the 'view' and 'close' button on SMS notifications.
Thanks for this great app.

The PushGmail app does open the mail app, but it can only open it to the compose new email message window, which is kinda annoying. I was intrigued by the in app browser however, and I think this addition would be welcome, if not absolutely essential. It would make this app almost a standalone mail app rather than merely an assisting app just for notifications that it is now. That would make Mail Notifier well worth the asking price, as PushGmail only does Gmail, but does offer the in app browser and all for just .99.

Ah okay, that makes sense. I would find that quite annoying too.
In light of this new information: I would only wish for the other 2 things listed above: Nicer text formatting of the push message and a dismiss button.
Thanks for the reply.

Doesn't the new exchange option for Gmail make this unneccesary?
No, since you can only have one exchange server configuration on your iPhone.
This app allows for multiple accounts to be pushed.
While the exchange server also takes care of contacts and calendar as opposed to just email push, this is —to me—a preferable solution.
Also, many users exchange account may already be in used by their employer/work exchange server, thus the new Google solution will not work for them either way.
Hope that answers your question.

It pushes the you a message from the app it even shows a preview of the message and then go to the mail app open the account and get the mail the nice thing is this saves on battery life cause with this app you dont need to have fetch or push mail on the whole time. its worth the price.

Hey derek, thanks for the Beta.
I just finished installing and settings all my accounts, Notification sound and all the new features are great. So far I have found the following:
1-) I set the Silence Mode from 10:00PM-6:00Am, but then while trying all the new features, I never got a notification sound, I double checked time settings and everything seems fine but then I disabled the Silence feature and my Notification Ringtones began to sound. I tried it again and teh same, so I left it disabled for now until there is more info about it.
2-) I have set 2 different POP emails, weird thing is that they work for some time and then suddenly I receive a Notification from the APP saying that it found an error or something and that I need to revalidate the account. If I go and just validate it again, it works but then some minutes later the same occurs. What I have seen so far is that POPs are giving me this, but my Office IMAP account so far is working great.

Oct 31, 2009, 08:42 PM
More info about the POP error.
It seems that it gives the Push error message exactly 15 minutes after you save the credentials, I did a couple of more tests and it's always 15 minutes, only thing that make sense is that my POP Fetch schedule is every 15 minutes, so correct me if I'm wrong, but my theory is that as soon as my Mail app fetch for messages every 15 minutes, this error out the Push of Mail Notifier.
My next test is that i will set ,y POP account to mnual instead of Fetch and will re-enable the account and will let you know if it helps.
Just letting you know, it can give you an idea. Let us know.

I received the new BETA and installed it. From my tests I can see that at least the Silence bug was fixed, as I set it to be silenced from 10:00PM-7:00AM and I received some notifications this morning and they were pushed with sound.
BUT, it seems that the POP accounts still some kind of a bug, I can tell you that it is not asking me to re-validate the account every 15 minutes but now the Badge count keep growing and since I've been testing it, it doesn't delete the Badge even when I have read it and delete it. I must double check my email client settings just to see if it's getting deleted from the server, but as far as I know it should.
Just letting you know some details, I can confirm later if it reset the badge count or not, thanks.

People that have an iPhone checking a POP account managed by desktop system are likely to have the "leave messages on server" option on and set to at least 1 day. This allows them to see their email on the iPhone and the desktop system.
In this case, I, as the user, would just turn off the badge display since the information will be misleading.

Can you check if the emails are getting deleted off the server when you read them? If it does, it should reset the badge count.
For some reason they weren't deleted from the server, my iPhone POP account is set to delete from server When remove from Inbox, so everything looked fine, but I also remembered that it has been a couple of days that I have noticed that I was deleting the emails from that POP accounts on teh iPhone but then at night when getting home I still had the emails there, so obviously something was wrong.
So, I decided to delete the account from the app, this got rid of the badge, then I deleted the POP account from the iPhone and then created it again, then went to the app and added the POP again.
I can tell you that I have received about 4 emails from that acount and all of them has been deleted from the iPhone, from the server and the badge takes a little longer to update but it's resetting correctly now. So apparently it wasn't the APP at all, it was something on the iPhone that wasn't deleting the email from the server as it was doing and suddenly stopped doing.
So, for me it's working great now. Congrats.

How is this app working for everyone? I ask because I have been using GPush for a few months, and it works quite well (though here are issues with wifi connections, which cause some interference with mail notifications ....).
Since yesterday, GPush no longer works, it seems their "internal server" is down. They do not reply to support inquiries, nor have they ever (I tried to contact them several times about the wifi issues).
So I am looking to change apps, and Mail Notifier seems to be well-liked ... is version 2.0 going to be released anytime soon?
I use a Gmail imap account, I am not clear if that is currently supported ...
Many thanks for any input.

Arghh! I just missed that ... it appears 2.0 was released yesterday and the description in the App Store now answers my original question about IMAP accounts: two of the features listed are "Support for Hotmail, Gmail, AOL" and "Support for any IMAP email account".
I had hesitated about buying it before the 2.0 release because I wasn't sure it would work with my Gmail IMAP account, thus my original question (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=8841558&postcount=127) ... which has now been self-answered. ;)

Alright I'm confused as to whether Mail Notifier 2 supports POP. This thread states that POP is supported....but the description of the app in the App Store does not say this?
I have a comcast.net POP account...will Mail Notifier 2 work for me?

There is an option for POP in the app and it works. However, POP hasn't been tested thoroughly enough yet, which is the reason why we do not want to advertise it yet at the moment.

I may add, that I don't think that it hasn't been tested enough, what I have noticed is that the iPhone, for some reason is not deleting the emails from the POP server quite well. I mean, if I go to settings, everything is set as it should, it says that Emails will be deleted from Server when removed from Inbox, the remove option is set to After One Day (that's all I can see that we can set on the iPhone), then, if I receive an email after going through the settings, it removes it from the server, but then it just stop doing it again, at least until I go again and go through the settings.
Problem is that once it begins giving issues deleting from the POP server then it begins giving issues with the App, because obviously until it gets deleted from the server, you will keep the badge on it saying that you have X amount of emails.
So, I think that it will better just to find why iPhone is doing this, and if there is a solution for it, it will make the app as perfect as possible, at least for now.

Thanks for the clarification! Whats the licence associated with - my iTunes account, the phone or that particular installation?

We would love to do that. Unfortunately, due to limitations of the iPhone SDK, it won't let us.

PushGmail launches the compose screen where you have to hit cancel to dismiss it and read your emails, which adds little value.
It is better to have an option to launch the web app or the home screen where in the home screen you are only one tap away from the Mail app anyways.

Thanks for mentioning this. I was just about to purchase the app myself, but stopped when I read your post. I couldn't find the subscription costs in this thread, and the app page in the iTunes store makes no mention of them either (and only a passing mention of the need for a subcription) but I found them on the company's website.
$3.99 for the first year
$3.99 for each additional year
$5.99 for each additional 2 years
$9.99 for lifetime subscription
More than I'm willing to spend. I'll pass.

Our move to subscription is not a "money grabbing" move, but a move to provide a reliable service to our users for the long term.
Maintaining a server to provide this service is a recurring cost and it isn't free for us. We rather charge a subscription now than having to pull the app from the App Store later when the new sales don't cover the server costs. (for example, what happened to MobileChat?)
$1.99 for a whole year of reliable push email is excellent value (and it says clearly in the App description - we aren't trying to deceive anyone). People spend more money than that on a cup of coffee a day.
Also, we are giving our existing users and apps a lot of attention. To say we are letting them "rot" is absolutely untrue. Mail Notifier 2.0 was released recently with a ton of new features our users suggested and more are coming later. If you seen the latest screenshots of TextNow in our blog, you definitely would not think we are letting our existing users and apps "rot".

Do you guys thinks that the infrastructure (servers, space, etc.) and manpower required to make a product like Mail Notifier function properly and improve over time don't cost anything?
As Derek said, $1.99 for a whole year of reliable push email is excellent value. How much do you think it should cost? Free? How could they stay in business at that price??

I don't speak for them, but I do think that it is slightly sneaky for them to say a subscription is required yet not really explain how much it will cost ON THE iTUNES PAGE. No one wants to surf outside of iTunes half of the time and no one will just to see the pricing. Put it on the damn product page. Do I think it's money grubbing? No, I think it's necessary but do it with some sort of decency and don't try to hide it or not draw attention to it. Less reviews and more info on the subscription fees.

We would put the prices on the iTunes page if it was allowed, but Apple does not let us. They will reject our app every single time if we reference any prices in the app description. This is rule understandable since the product is available in several different currencies and someone in Europe may not want to see the prices in Dollars.
However, in the description, it clearly says the download includes 1 year of service.

It says it but I think the point of the posters is that it's not as easily spotted as say your reviews and such. I would put asterisks around it or something. People by nature skim. It will cost you to be in this position again where people don't understand. As for not being able to put pricing in there, that is stupid (on Apple's part). Currency differences or not, it is stupid but well understood. I would simply put "due to Apple's restrictions we can only provide pricing on our website". At least let them know. Had I seen this I would not have quickly jumped to the other side.

Oh I know, or I assume. Think of it this way. Gmail offered push over a month ago and homeboy up top said just today that had he known today before he purchased your app that Gmail pushed now (free) they would have not bought your app. Sometimes you're not dealing with people who really research and read about the products they're buying. It's sad but clearly true.
Making it easier on them is silly but necessary and will save you these headaches.

Is it possible that when your desktop client checks your pop account, it removes the emails from the server? You can verify if that's the case if you have some sort of web portal you can access your account on the server directly. If that's the problem, the desktop client should probably have an option to keep messages on the server.

Downloaded this app last night and am very pleased with the results etc as I just wanted something to notify me of any hotmail messages straight away.
The only problem I'm having is that the badge on the app is not updating after I've read the emails? For instance, I got 2 emails this morning which I was notified about, so I went into the mail app, updated it, read and replied to the emails but the badge is still saying I have 2 unread emails.
Anything I'm doing wrong?

Unfortunately, there is no way around that right now as Hotmail doesn't mark their emails read when they are downloaded via POP.
However, if you read the emails from their mobile web client, it does mark it as read and update the badge.

I just purchased this app today and it seems to work well with my GMail accounts but is causing a major issue with my POP accounts.
I am in Canada and use Rogers as my ISP. Whenever I add one of my Rogers accounts, my iPhone can no longer retrieve any e-mail from that account, and neither can my Mac. It is like your server is pounding my Rogers account and it cannot respond to my login attempts. As soon as I remove the Rogers account from Mail Notifier I can access my e-mail.

Are you able to set it up as IMAP instead?
This is an issue with POP servers that is difficult to overcome, and is the reason we don't specify that we officially support pop accounts. I have reduced the load on the pop server, so it may resolve the issues you are having.

Ok, so I was trying out another app, IM+ Lite, for chat and such. I noticed it supports push notifications for Yahoo! e-mail accounts, which Rogers actually is. For the heck of it I added my 3 Rogers/Yahoo accounts. What do you know but wham, every single e-mail that comes in gets a push notification. It doesn't cause any problem with my e-mail access from my desktop.
The iPhone is supposed to natively support push for Yahoo, but it never works. I don't know what the developers for this other app have done but it works.
So I don't know if you could add Yahoo! support, instead of full POP support to your app?
Thanks

I picked this up to use on my iPad. As opposed to SmartPush which I had used before, I liked that this app allowed me to switch off the email preview in the push notice. It seems a bit slow-- SmartPush was almost instant, this takes about a minute or so to message me. Not a crisis, but it was a little disconcerting.
However, I got the opinion from reading the app description that it would let you open up Mail.app from thr push notice? I don't have anything but an "okay" button when I get a push notice. It also said there was a link to open a website, which I don't have either. I use Google Apps, so opening the default Mail.app would be preferred, but I don't seem to have an option. I see no setting anywhere to enable this, so am I doing something wrong or is it not there?
Also guys, you really need to make it clearer on your store description that it's a subscription app. It's buried enough that people are going to feel ripped off and lied to. It tarnishes what is otherwise a great tool.

I have been informed by Gordon at Enflick that Get Satisfaction is no longer the support tool to use for Enflick products; apparently we are supposed to use the Help Desk at Zendesk.
I tried to do this yesterday for this problem, but to post to any existing discussion you need to be a "registered" user and I can't register. Every time I try to register I get the following error message:
"Help Desk does not offer self-registration, please contact your company representative for further information"
I sent Enflick support two e-mails at support@enflick.com describing my problem and asking how I could register for the Help Desk. The only reply I receive is a canned one, as follows:
"Hi,
Thank you for your e-mail, we appreciate your communication. We have recently developed a new method of customer support utilizing a utility called ZenDesk (helpdesk).
Click here <http://enflick.zendesk.com/home> to go to our ZenDesk (helpdesk) or paste the link below into your bowers address bar.
http://enflick.zendesk.com/home
Once at Enflick's ZenDesk -- Please search for a keyword relating to your issue in the ZenDesk “Search Bar” and you will be met with an answer to your question.
Ex. “I am having issues with sending” -- Search for the keyword “SENDING”
RESULTS:
I am having issues sending/receiving messages
I am having issues sending pictures
etc...
Please do not create “tickets” on ZenDesk as they will not be responded to.
You will however have the option to comment on existing questions/topics so that we or other members of our ZenDesk Community can provide you with further support releated to your issue.
Thank you,
The Enflick Team"

The response to my query ("How do I register to use the Help Desk?") is NOT on the Help Desk that I can see, so I can not participate in the appropriate Enflick-designated support forum.
Any suggestions?

Sigh... Which came first? Chicken or the egg?
I guess that summarises your predicament right now.

I was receiving gmail notifications but went to change my settings and got the "Connection Failed: The application failed to verify the account. Please ensure that you have data connectivity." error while definitely connected.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now can not re-add my account - getting the same error
Guidance would be appreciated
