New 100Whr HyperMac & Air - UPDATED

i just recieved my 100Whr hypermac battery,

im waiting for it to charge, i will see how long it lasts when its finished charging.

i bought this mostly for car rides , service work and being able to charge my iphone/mbair on the road (car charger charges iphone very slowly).

the car charger is great, i should make good use out of it.

they come in 60whr , 100whr , 150whr and 222whr,

100+ whr batteries come with a free car charger, they work for both mba and mbp.

6 hours 20 mins until it switch to my internal battery.

so its not to shabby if you ask me, far from the 13-17 hours they quote.

i will post some more pictures and more run times shortly.

6.5 hours PLUS the internal battery's 4 hours gets you pretty close.

For what I always read on the HyperMac ads, however, I'd expected a little better...

Let's see, they state that, with the 100 WHr you bought, they have a total of 16.7 hrs of juice. Which corresponds to 2.7 x the normal battery life.
If my maths works, 16.7 : 2.7 = 6.18 hrs...

Did any fellow see > 6 hrs of battery life?

impressive! the smaller one might be good for my uni needs (12 hrs will get me through the day, i have two internal batteries that i swap around).

$200US is a bit expensive though for a poor uni student, shipping to aust would cost even more :(

I'm looking to get the smaller one. I think when I bought mine, I got a little greedy. Officially mine weights about 130% as much as my computer and it's not even lasting a day now, which is kind of pathetic considering I have a MacBook Air as well. Also the charging indicator? Well my model doesn't have that.

I would be quite happy with carrying so much less weight and still get me through the day.

Eh, wait to own it for a few months. I had great run times in the beginning, but then it nearly HALVED. If you want to return/exchange it, then they charge you a 20% restocking fee. Not to mention the overheating chargers they shipped out to everyone. . .:(

the charger end in the battery is very finicky....charges somtimes...not others.

they wont charge me a restocking fee, ill just call my credit card company and reverse the charges.

also, my friend who has owned one for 5 months now said, do not discharge the battery completely, it will degrade it big time.

only discharge it to 15-30% then recharge it.

his still holds the same time as when he bought it.

They say Li-on batteries are the opposite of nicad. Nicad you had to discharge all the way before charging, or you get memory effect. Li-on should NOT be fully discharged, but then you eliminate being able to fully enjoy the benefits of this type of battery. Some day the perfect battery will come along.

or a charge circuit to not let the battery capacity dip below 15%

Yeah my issue is I discharge mine all the time. Problem with no letting it drop below 15% is the battery indicator only shows 4 levels, the lowest being 25%.

Anyways the guys at HyperMac offered me an exchange… I might just take them up on that and then sell this one and get the 100Wh model.
