Australian police are gearing up for an annual crackdown on motor-racing fans - limiting race-goers to 24 cans of beer a day.

Spectators at the Bathurst 1000 - a three-day race meeting staged this week - will be told to stick to just the one "slab" of beer while at the racetrack.

Wine-drinkers must also show restraint, facing a four litres per day limit.

....

Those choosing to drink lower-strength beer will be allowed to bring in 36 cans, police said. BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8292264.stm).

Man, those Aussie authorities are real strict :p

Wow. 24?!

Either these are really watered down beverages (a la the American Budweiser) or Aussies are really good at holding their alcohol before even coming close to tipping over! :)

One slab per day is pretty damned strict for V8 Supercar fans.

And no, we Aussies don't drink light beer (light meaning low alcohol) - doing so is a serious faux pas.

So is that 24 cans of beer in addition to 4 litres of wine?
Hmmmm. ;)
Or is it assumed if you are a beer drinker you don't touch wine, and vice versa?

Mind you I'd be dead before I finished 24 cans of beer.

I couldn't finish one can of Foster's... without vomiting/laughing at how awful it tastes.

No Aussie drinks Fosters. You can't even buy it in pubs. It's the crap we send overseas.

Not hard to drink a case in a day, starting at 8:30am or so I've done it a couple of times.

V8 Supercar fans will be annoyed, they need a lot more than a slab to make the races interesting...

But I do enjoy seeing the bits of the Bathurst 1000 race we get when Speed TV doesn't know what to do with itself in the CRASHCAR offseason.

Fosters: Australian for Budweiser.

I noticed that they didn't address the hard stuff. So, could you drink 24 beers AND a 750ml bottle of vodka/whisk(e)y/etc?

That means Fosters isn't even beer, so it must be exempt from the limits.

I am a tooheys fan here, not a VB fan though.

This is why I rather stay at home, set up the plasma, invite a few mates, have a BBQ and drink as much as we want :)

Pure Blonde FTW! :)
