I see this quite a lot on the various threads. I work in mail order and depending on when the shipping company physically closes their manifest and then uploads it to the carrier determines wheather or not you see tracking information right after ship confirmation. It is also not uncommon for packages to miss scans at the different hubs. I have see pkgs ship, and not show any activity until it hits the customers door. I feel for you, it is very frustrating........

I went to the local Apple store & picked one up today... After about a half hour it froze up on me... :-(... I reset it & it's been working fine ever since, but that's 3 out of the last 4 of my purchases from Apple that have had at least minor issues right out of the box... I like the scroll wheel so far, but then again I liked the mini as soon as I got it, mostly because of this, so that's no shock....

My Ipod shipped a day early actually and I belive it was supposed to ship on the 21st. I was actually surprised by that. Yours should ship pretty darn soon. This was also my first time dealing with apple. My ipod's two hours away in Shreveport, soon to be in Alexandria. Powerbook was last scanned in Anchorage, fresh off the plane from China. And I have no clue where my Applecare package is. But I'm not too worried about that one. The ipod will be here tomorrow, if not, I shall be quite the angry man. Pbook is supposed to be here on Friday before 10:30am. So it's easy to see the next two days are gonna be filled with refreshing the tracking page and staring out my window. Time for AquaTeen now.
P.S. Just wondering but when am I not a newbie? I'm guessing thirty posts. Somebody tell me that please. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Here's my fedex tracking info. Apparently it went from china to alaska and back to china. crazy fedex folks. read from the bottom up, too lazy to change it. i'm copy/paste junkie.

I am going to assume that partially shipped means that part of the order (most likely the ipod) has been handed off to fed ex?

You should be getting an email some time soon with your tracking number on it. Also, your order status page will have you tracking number. Just keep refreshing every five minutes like we're all doing. Hope that helped.

I ordered a customer 15" powerbook, and changed at least 3 things on it, and to my suprise it was my powerbook that went out for delivery when it said partially shipped. I was not the ipod. Still waiting for it to ship, hopefully it goes out today.

I went to the Apple store in Easton Town Center, Columbus Ohio, and purchased a new 20 Gig ipod. It is ok, except for the error message it keeps displaying when syncing (Another user had this problem too, so I don't think it's something I did wrong.) As for the looks, it perfectly matches the iBook. The grey click wheel is the same as the grey inside of the iBook. My friend has an iBook, and the ipod and ibook look perfect together. The new game where you guess what song is playing is OK too. I didn't really notice a size difference, but 1mm is pretty small. The packaging is very well done; very Apple like. Also wanted to add that at Apple stores, the old 15 gig is the same price as the mini, so 229 with student discount- thats pretty cheap. -I don't like the buttons of the 3G though.

I ordered mine on 7/21 and mine has shipped today, 7/22. I was visiting my grandparents for a few days in the sticks with no internet access and no mac or other electronic store within a 100 miles, so i had no idea the 4g iPods launched. Yesterday, when I was leaving, the newscasters had one on the news and I flipped. After driving about a 100 mph home, I placed my order. Then i had to pick up some cd's for my new iPod and they actually had them for sale. Sooo I am waiting with the rest of you.

I have another great story if you want read the rest of my banter. I placed my ipod mini order on launch day and was one of the first ones to receive one. My iPod mini was a lime lemon. The mini would not connect to my system. So, I spoke with Apple and received a new one. The new one kept freezing. So, I spoke with Apple and received a new one. The new one had static. So, I spoke with Apple and received a new one. Three mini's were enough to put the new one on eBay and within 8 hrs I sold the mini for $400.00, just enough to get a 30gb 3g, but I waited and now I ordered a 40Gb 4g....AwEsOmE!!!

Nevermind the rant. FedEx places it here on the 26th. I was getting it engraved with just my last name but when they changed my order to the 4G it had some random guys name on it. I called 'em and got it fixed. That might be why it took a little bit longer.

In the meantime while we wait. I have a question, and forgive me if this is a dumb question I was just cruious.

With the new ipod, since it has the usb2.0 and firewire, making it pc/mac compatible, can I put songs on it from both a mac and a pc? Or are there problems with that due to the file systems on the drive themself. I thought I read that if you use it on your mac, you must use it on there, and the same with a pc.

Also if that is the case and you can only use it on one system, can I access my mp3s on my pc drive via my network and transfer them through the apple onto the ipod?

WEEEE! It's here. Even the freaking package is cool. I love the "Don't steal music" on the wrapper. Oh man, if I'm this excited over an Ipod, I can only imagine how i'll be when my pbook arrives. Oh crap, I just realized that my current computer doesn't have usb 2.0. ohh the humanity. Will it work with usb 1 or will I have to wait until my pbook gets here to even play with it?

It should work fine with usb1, usually usb stuff is backwards compatible. Just be prepared for much slower transfers.

You may want to wait though until someone can answer the question I just asked, I think I read that people had to format their ipod, when they went from pc to a mac or something. I do not know for sure.

J/w but is it ok to have the ipod on more than one computers? I was wondering this because it asked for the serial number and my personal information. I'm almost positive it won't be a problem but I just wanna be sure. I'd be mighty pissed off if I couldn't even use my ipod with my powerbook. Also, NSpace, I read that too but I think I'm gonna load up my songs anyway. The Ipod's just sitting there...staring at me, just saying USE ME, USEEEEEE ME. I would if it would hurry up and fully charge. Even though we might have to format it for the mac from a pc. It'll be worth it. BTW, when's your pbook supposed to come in? Mine's due in sometime tomorrow.

Ordered a 20gb within an hour of it being announced, and was supposed to ship by the 22nd. Now get an email saying this date has been pushed back to the 26th!!!! !@#$$

What gets me is that if you go to the online store right now, the estimated ship time is still 1-2 days - but I ordered mine in the first hour and mine is pushed back 4 days!? How does this make sense? Maybe Apple is putting me at the back of the line because I got the educational discount and figure I won't go anywhere else? Or maybe its because I live in Canada? Either way this sucks. :mad:

I think that Apple ran into a back log on the 3G iPods which is causing the delay. I didn't expect an iPod update until September after Cram & Jam expired and placed an order for a 15" PB and 40GB iPod on July 9th. I finally recieved the whole order today. I wanted everything shipped at once so that it would all arrive just after my midterm last Wednesday. Needless to say that didn't happen. I did call Apple on Tuesday to upgrade to 2nd day shipping and just in time too. I am now typing this on my 15" PB and transferring my iTunes library via wireless (slow but I needed to do battery calibration and what easier way than to drain it with Airport running?)

I was probably not the only person with an order that got delayed by what I believe to be one of 2 things. Either Apple ran out of 3G iPods and was waiting to ship until the new ones were announced, or (this one is less likely) they delayed shipment until the announcement to try to pacify those who's orders would have shipped only a day or two before the announcement.

Woooohoooooo just got an email that my 20G ipod has shipped. No tracking number yet though.

The ship date was originally 2-3 days then it changed to the 2nd August! I think because of the dock aswell. so now i just have to wait.

I am also still waiting for my silver iPod mini which shipped on the 15th July !!!!!!!!!!!!

The wait is killing me they will be my first ever iPods!

I'm surprised you still have enough faith in Apple after all that to buy another ipod. But congrats on getting a 40gb for yourself!

It was werid cause my pb shipped out so fast, but heres the frustrating thing. It left for Winipeg last night and I know the next city it goes to is my city, Mississauga. well, the 22nd has come and gone... and so has the 23rd (the first rescheduled date). it now says the on or before the 27th for me. (in canada... you may be right about canadians getting shafted here).

Get this, here is a story for you all:

Excited, i wake up this morning. Now FedEx estimated the delivery for Tuesday. However, I had a feeling it could possibly ship today, as i knew it was in my city. So sure enough business day starts up, i check the website and its in my city. So i call Fedex.

They tell me it will most likely ship today but theres no gurantee it could be tomorrow.

So anyways I am imptatient and i wait around till 1, and on the fedEx website it hasn't left for delivery, so i figure its not coming but decide to call again, I knoew the Fed Ex place in my city is only a 5 min drive for me.

The lady tells me I will not get it until tomorrow because the package isnt in my city and it has not cleared customs. I had already given her my tracking number, and I told her look at the tracking, it has arrived in my city, how can you say it hasn't. Oh well it still has to clear customs. Look at the tracking results, it cleared in Winnipeg when it came into the country, look at the comment right beside that scan. Hangs up in my face.

Of course I call back and and another lady says i probably won't get it today and there is no way i can pick it up. 10 minutes later the package shows up at my door.

FedEx needs a better tracking system :)

Well I have something to fool around with until the ipod arrives so this should keep me busy. I hope us Canadians score some luck with the ipod shipping.

Holy crap! This IS getting rediculous! I've already had mine pushed back twice, and if it doesn't ship by tonight, it will have been the third time. Judging by the huge delay you got, I wouldn't be surprised if I get a similar email!

As for calling them, I have done this twice, each time my order was pushed back. It probably does nothing, but I figure I gotta let someone hear about it. The people on the phone aren't helpful at all, they just keep repeating the same stuff over and over like they are reading a script..."we apologize for the delay. The demand has been overwhelming..." etc., etc. What they can't explain is why my order keeps getting pushed back despite the fact I ordered it within an hours of the release, meanwhile people everywhere have already received theirs despite ordered later than I have!!! To top it off, the Canadian Apple Store still lists 1-2 business days as the estimated ship date!!! I mentioned this to them both times, and said they would look into it, but of course it hasn't changed last I looked.

I just dont understand how people ordering theirs after have gotten theirs first, abpple obviously dosn't "fill orders in the same order that they recieve them". Ahh well I hope it ships soon.

sounds like you're one of the lucky ones... but just check your order status from the apple store website - you can even track the shipment.

btw - a few friends of mine have recieved their 4G with scratches on them too - beginning to scare me.

As I predicted, delayed for the third time. Original ship date of the 22nd, then the 27th, then the 29th, now: August 10th!

I even saw a guy in my Political Theory class today with a 4G which is a slap in the face because I'm usually the guy with the brand new toy, before everyone else catches on and buys one. :p

I bet I could easily walk down to the local Apple re-seller just down the street and pick one up - the only thing holding me back is that I'm a student so I'm getting the discount from Apple, meaning its only costing me $389 rather than the $429 I'd pay in the store. I have a sneaking suspision its the fact I am getting this discount that my order keeps getting pushed back :mad:

Right now I'm on the verge of just calling up, cancelling my order and telling them I'm just going to buy a Dell jukebox instead. (wouldn't happen in a million years, but maybe that will get them to buy me off with a free dock or something ;))

Well mine arrived on Wednesday 28th only 5 days after ordering online from the Apple Store, it has an estimate of 2 weeks because I ordered the dock aswell so I was really shocked when I got the shipping notice email.

However it arrived with a strange mark on the front almost like a water mark on the white just under the screen and slightly on the screen, I have read on ipodding.com others with the same problem, also the click wheel was slightly raised at the bottom and not flush with the iPod.

Apple have been great, a replacement was shipped the next day (yesterday) they didnt have to wait to get my old one back first which i expected. So if this one takes the same length of time it should be here Monday or Tuesday with hopefully no defects.

I want to go to my AppleCentre store and get one, but I want to know my approximate odds of getting a mark or something on mine. I don't care if there is a slight scratch. I'll probably scratch it heaps, and I don't care for cases to "protect it" because it makes the player thick, and I want to put it in my pant pocket. And besides, there's no point buying something nice if you're going to cover it up.

However, if its a strange watermark, then it'll be visible to me all the time, I'm thinking, so that to me is a big deal.

Yeah the old one has to go back but im still waiting for TNT to call and arrange a pick up date. I will post when I get the new one - hopefully i will be saying "its perfect" BTW there were no scratches on the front or the back of the one I recieved. The water mark was very obvious, I tried gently rubbing it off but it looked like it was underneath. I havnt seen anyone write about that on this site only on ipodding.com where there were a few with these marks on them, so i dont think it can be that big a problem.

I loved the look of the new iPod, go and get one mate. If you have any marks on it you can take it back. There are more people posting that they have arrive and are 100% pleased with them, so i'm sure you won't be unlucky like me!

Well my replacement was ordered on Thursday 29th and arrived today 2nd - that took 5 days including a weekend! It is perfect no scratches or marks on the front - now its charging. I am very impressed with the speed that Apple have sorted this out for me and can't wait to get using my new iPod :D

I forgot to mention, the first one that i got had been opened by customs. However I thought they had just opened the brown outer cardboard box. When my new iPod arrived today I took it out the brown box and the actual iPod packaging was shrink wrapped - my first one was not! This makes me wonder what customs actually did with my first iPod and maybe they broke to click wheel! or maybe the first one just wasn't shrink wrapped?

Same with mine. When mine got delayed the third time I called up to cancel, but they told me I couldn't because the order was being processed, which usually means its going out soon. The guy gave me a discount instead, to $374CAD so I said I would wait.

Finally, it should be here tommorow. :rolleyes: Hope after all this our iPods don't come damaged!!!

Whoo it arrived this morning, on the same truck as the brand new version of Swift 3d Version 4 that I won in April haha.

The first thing I did is start charging the ipod, is this right? I was going to wait till I had a full 100% charge before loading it w/ tunes.

Since my music collection is on my pc, I will probably hook it up to that for music transfer so i know I should be doing this on a fat32 partition. Will the ipod software automatically do this when I install it on a pc or is it something i have to reconfigure on the ipod itself.

I hope the Cheat and discomonkey got theirs as well.

It arrived with no scratches, well there was a light one on the back but I hard to shine it in the light to kinda see it, I wouldnt really call it a scratch. There was another imperfection on the front but it was just some sticky glue stuff from the wrapper around it, it came off with some goo gone and looks perfect, so I was happy :D

WOW. I'm really impressed with Apple right now. After obsessing over which iPod--if any--to buy, I took the plunge and ordered one yesterday (Friday, August 6) around 4 pm PST. By the time I got home from work at 10, I found an email was in my inbox confirming that the order was being processed.

And this morning, I got an email around 9:45 am PST saying my personalized iPod shipped today! We'll see how long the beaut takes to arrive, but I've got a pat-on-the-back for Apple no matter what. Shipped in less than 24 hours!
