Why bother with OS 9? Classic should serve you well.

You can't, current Powerbooks aren't OS 9 bootable. Your Powerbook came with a full version of OS 9 (and on the restore disks) but the Powerbooks firmware doesn't support booting in to OS 9, you can only use it for classic.

Finiksa is right. Additionally, OS 9 isn't available through the Apple Store. You might be able to get replacement Software Restore disks from Apple though.

It is and it isn't free. Call them and ask for the legacy store.

You can buy copies from MacResQ (http://www.macresq.com/store/hitlist-browse.php?category=Software) but I would think you'd be able to find better prices elsewhere, like eBay for instance....oh yeah!

Apple offers a free os 9 netboot image on their site somewhere. It's hard to find and i have the link at work, but that can easily be extracted from that form..... if one were so inclined....
