Wow. 6000 mAh. I like this design too, not needing another power cord to charge the battery, and two USB ports is fantastic.
$99 is a bit steep, but this could very well be the battery I want to travel with as well.
Nice find!

I agree the $99 price tag is a bit much and this is the introductory price. The regular price is $130, so if I won't pay $99 I certainly won't pay $130.
What is it with this price point? The Owle Buba did the same pricing scheme.

FWIW, everything from Zagg (including Invisible Shields) is 50% off for today (http://www.zagg.com) only, making the ZaggSparq only $50. 6000mAh plus the convenience of having dual USB ports was enough for me so I ordered one. Should be exactly what I need.

My Zaggsparq's arrived today. One of them has some gouges on the top of the unit. I'm kind of bummed out but have emailed them about it. Also, I'm not to pleased with the gloss black surface as it shows defects, fingerprints and scratches very easily. When will companies stop designing hand held products with glossy surfaces? Another thing that kind of bugs me about this product is the LED's are amber, I would think they would be green like the box picture shows them.
I guess none of this matters as long as this device works as advertised, plus they only cost me $50 each, so I shouldn't complain to much.
As soon as mine is fully charged I will test it out and report back.

I'm kind of bummed out, I just got the new Flip Mino and I can't get it to plug into my ZaggSparq, WTF?
UPDATE: I checked online and found others that said the Flip models starting with M2 have this problem. More so when trying to plug into Macbooks. Sounds like Flip will send you an adapter of some kind, so I emailed Flip. How can they screw up making a USB plug? It's been a standard for many years for crying out loud.

So I have been using the sparq for a few days, and for something that is suppose to have won an innovation award, I found some issues:
1. When plugged in there is no way to know its actually charging.
2. There is no indication when the charge is complete.
3. The Zagg instructions say charge for 9 hours every time, which seems more like a stop gap. Some times you dont need 9 hours... expecially with Lithium Ion batteries.
4. The case is shiny and slick, and not something for the pocket or built for durability (scratches).
5. Seems to drop off of 4 lights (full charge) pretty quick. In fact, I played online poker with my phone attached (on wifi) for 1 hour and it was down to 2 lights...so there really is not good way to know what you have left. 2 Lights means 50% to me. My phone was not at zero...it was at about 50% when I plugged it in.
6. The case looks like it would shatter if dropped.
I do like the USB approach because most every device today comes with a USB cable.
Anyway, at $49 its probably a keeper. At $69 not sure...not worth 99 or 129 when there are other choices.

No charging indication, no indication when it's fully charged, and the lights being off telling you how much is left... This is major failure. I'm actually glad I didn't pick this up now knowing this. Thanks for the update!

Well I might be the first person with a Failed Zaggsparq. One of mine will not charge my iPhone anymore. The Zaggsparq was fully charged. When I used my other Zaggsparq, it had no problems charging my iPhone. Thankfully Zagg is replacing the device. I should have known better than to be an early adopter. It makes me wonder how long my other Zaggsparq will last before failing.

I registered for these forums for the sole purpose of reporting my miserable experience with the Zagg Sparq.
I also took advantage of the 50% off deal, and bought a Sparq. Straight from the box, it would not charge my devices, even when it was plugged directly into the wall, and after charging overnight had four out of four lights on. I sat on hold for 75 minutes waiting for a customer service rep to tell me that it must have been a DOA unit, that on rare occasions this happens, and that she would very sweetly offer to send me another one. Weeks later I finally get my replacement (to be fair, the holidays were in the middle of that period) AND THIS ONE IS DOA TOO. Now I have to sit on the phone for another hour and a half and go through the same silly dance to get yet another replacement, and I haven't even gotten the chance to send the first DOA Sparq back yet.
DO NOT BUY THE ZAGG SPARQ. Even at 50% off, this thing has been more trouble than it was worth.
EDIT: It's not actually "ZAGG Sparq", but to make the already juvenile spelling and capitalization even more annoying, I just realized that it is "ZAGGsparq", all in one word. And yes, the lights on both of my "ZAGGsparq" units are amber, not green. And yes, I was put off by this too. And no, no amount of friendly (but slow) customer service can make up for crappy products.

Glad to see I am not the only one with a faulty Zappsparq. Not sure I understand why some are defective, it's not rocket science to design a battery backup.

I too am among the growing list of dead sparq owners ... 1st one: won't charge iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G, or iPod touch 2g ...replacement: same deal. Both right out of the box. They're now going to send me a 3rd and emailed me a prepaid UPS return label to send back the other 2. They want to test mine to see why they're not working with iPod / iPhones because they said they had only not been working with other devices? Something about phones like Blackberry etc having to be off of power save mode before they would charge? Who knows, I'll wait another 2 weeks to receive my 3rd sparq and will report back. Between this and the Samsung HT-BD8200, I'm really not batting well on just-released electronics ... from now on I'm waiting until at least 2nd gen electronics before purchasing!!

Received the replacement Zaggsparq and so far it seems to work. Hope it lasts.
I purchased the ZAGGsparq during the holiday sales and I happened to order mine on phone while I was getting my InvisibleSHIELD replaced. I got 30% off on top of the $69.99. I got mine last monday.
The charging lights were confusing -whether it was done or not. I was weird how it would have 3 lights and then 4. When I have charging my Motorola Droid for 1-2 charge, there was 1 light. After I unplugged the USB, it had 2 --but didn't charge my phone or my iPod.
I let it charge until the four lights appeared, but it wouldn't charge my devices. Strangely, my USB fan was able to run. In comparison to the 'sound of power' the computer USB port was much stronger than the ZAGGsparq.
So, I'll be contacting ZAGG for a replacement.
-----------
The ZAGGsparq finally drained out after 3-4 days using a [novelty] USB fan. I charged it until the four lights, then the device now charges normally. It seems to refill battery power 3-4 times, not from near empty, and probably tops it off time-to-time when it's still connected. I tried the USB fan test again and it sounds normal like my computer USB port.
I have yet to contact ZAGG about it.

You don't do the charge until you see 4 lights. The charge should be for 9 hours. But I agree I don't like their light system. The unit should have one light, which should show red until the unit is fully charged up, then it should go to green. Looks like Zagg took the least expensive why to make this thing. I'm not really that happy with mine so far, just like I was with their InvisibleSHIELD product. I doubt I will purchase anything else from Zagg.

I am watching my replacement Zaggsparq closely for how long its shelf life is for holding a full charge. It would be pointless to have this device as a backup if doesn't hold a charge very long, especially since it takes 9 hours to charge it up.
Could you imagine, 9 hours to charge it up to 4 lights, then put it in your car. A day later without using it, its down to 3 lights, another day down to 2 lights and so on. A week later you need it to charge your iPhone and the Zaggsparq is dead. I would be so freaking pissed!

Does the LEDs still light up if there's any charge?
I had that same problem, except it happened on the 2nd charge. Nothing actually charged until I used a USB powered fan. It had a weak sound to it compared to a full powered USB. Then the fan to run until it drain out the ZAGGsparq (2-3 days). I recharge it and seemed to work for me. Maybe you have some novelty USB item that would help drain it out.

My only real gripe is a short warranty of 6 months. They claim its a high quality battery but then only offer a 6 month warranty. The owner indicated it was the high cost of importing and returing bad batteries to China.

I bought this device and it physically broke when i attempted to charge it. The prongs must have locked internally and snapped. I would not recommend this product to anyone at this point. ZAGG needs to address this issue in the next generation build.
I cannot attest to the ability of this device to hold a charge. The other posts don't give me too much hope.
Also: The flip-out prongs are longer than the recessed slots they're supposed to fit in. If you've used the iPod and Mac chargers, you've seen this flip-out style. Apple does it correctly and the prongs rest below the surface. ZAGG seems to have a lower quality build threshold and the prongs protrude.

How long has the redesign been in the works? Did Zagg continue to sell a defective unit?If you read this thread from the start, you will see I stated when I was informed by Zagg that they will be releasing the Zaggsparq2 in February. I have no idea how long they have been working on the newer design, but the first Zaggsparq was just barely released prior to Christmas 2009. So clearly the second design is being released to correct the failures of the first design. I doubt Zagg has continued to sell the first design because they are telling me I have to wait until February to get one of my replacements under warranty.
But I am extremely upset that Zagg is making me pay to ship the second Zaggsparq (from my original December order), after it failed just like my other Zaggsparq did. This other unit failed, was replaced, fail again and I am now waiting for it to be replaced again as well.

My Zaggsparq saga continues. Now Zagg sent me a UPS return label, so I don't have to pay for the return shipping. They also suggested plugging in my failed Zaggsparq for 10 seconds in an electrical outlet and then unplugging it, this is supposed to reset the Zaggsparq. This procedure did nothing to fix mine but may be worth trying for others here.
And about the the new Zaggsparq release, this is what Zagg emailed me a few days ago:
I am happy to inform you that we have re-engineered the ZAGGsparq for better performance. The ZAGGsparq is out of stock, but we expect to be getting a shipment of the ZAGGsparq2 in February and we do not have an exact date.
Their statement of "re-engineered the ZAGGsparq for better performance", is more likely to correct all the failures.

The only thing I do notice, is even one hour after a full charge (even for 10+ hours) the LEDS drop from 4 to 3 lit. I'm not sure if it's just an LED issue, or if the sparq is actually losing it's charge.

After 2 full charge cycles, my 2nd replacement will no longer charge our iPhones ... had emailed Zagg previously to ask if original sparq owners would be given a deep discount on sparq2 or if we would get our replaced and this is all they replied:
"We are offering a warranty replacement for anyone that has the item and it is now defective. We will replace under the warranty for the new version."
Sooooo if yours is working fine and dandy and then craps out a day after warranty is up you're up the creek. With the failure rate on these things they should all be recalled and replaced with the "new" version .. hell, these only came out in December right? And to already have a new model? ::sigh:: Isn't is ironic that the day after they send me that this one kicks the bucket. Just sent another trouble ticket to zagg requesting a prepaid shipping label and a no charge sparq2 ... will let you all know what happens ....

Here is the latest word from ZAGG about the Zaggsparq issues:
We have traced the problem of the ZAGGsparq to a quality control issue with a component that we purchased from a third-party manufacturer. The problem did not show up on our internal quality assurance tests because the specific components we were testing were not defective. The issue emerged only when we began shipping the finished product. The ZAGGsparq 2 will solve the charging problem by sourcing the part in question from a different manufacturer.
Would be nice if ZAAG used this time to add an LED on the unit to let us know when the Zaggsparq is fully charged while plugged into an electrical outlet.

Update:
After fully charging the ZAGGsparq for 10 hours, I let the unit sit and have not used it for 7 days. After 7 days, the unit is down to 2 LEDs. It still changes my iPhone and iPod Touch, but I just don't know yet if these LEDS are accurate, and this really leaked / drained 50% of it's charge in 7 days. If this is true, this is a complete failure. THe ability of charging the unit to full, and tossing it in my bag, I need to know this unit will be charged and ready to go when I need it. I'm going to see how many full charges I get out of this, with only 2 LEDS after 7 days of non use on a full charge.

Why are you charging it for 10 hours? They say to charge it for 9 hours. I doubt this device has built in overcharge protection.
But I bet if you run it through a few more cycles it will fail completely.

I was told by my contact at ZAGG that this is completely safe, and fine to do, and won't harm the unit. Just for the hell of it, I just sent a message to their support asking this question again.
They couldn't possibly expect you to set a timer to remind yourself of exactly 9 hours, to unplug the device. People can't always determine where they might be in exactly 9 hours.

I agree but their instructions with the device said nothing about the unit having over charge protection. I would think all devices have this by now, but they don't.
With the failure rate of this unit being so high, I wouldn't doubt this one bit, but I HOPE they were smart enough, especially with a 9 hour charge time, to have overcharge protection.
I tell you what, since I was sent this for review, and if the support email comes back with a message saying it's safe to leave it plugged in longer then 9 hours, I'm going to put this to the test. I'll really see just what it can take, and how well it holds up. Honestly, other then the LED issue, I've had zero problems with charging.
I'll take any suggestions from people, other then obviously damaging it on purpose, but if you can think of ways I can push this to the max, let me know, and I'll do it.

Honestly, I don't see how they would be able to test the unit for a possible failure, especially if the internal part is the cause of the failures as they say. I'm still having issues with the LEDS not being accurate, but they just sent me an interesting email. It seems that the unit will lose 1% of it's charge per day, according to ZAGG. The other suggestion was to drain the unit when you won't be using it for awhile, to preserve the battery life. This was not even close to answering my actual questions, so I re-submitted my questions.

Other than the charge level (which has not been established) I dont agree. Form factor is too large,
2 USB port probably will never be used
No power button so it discharges even when doing nothing
No way to know when the charge is complete
Soft, easily scratched case
Dishonest retailer that continued to sell/replace these units knowing there were major issues
Retailer that never really tested the product

Well the current version gives 4-5 complete iPhone charges, so there is no reason to believe the new version won't also. But yes I understand that this is through using one of the USB ports on the Zaggsparq. A power button would not stop the Zaggsparq from discharging when doing nothing, because this is a factor of the type of internal batteries it uses. All batteries discharge some juice when not in use, the type of battery determines how much it loses. I agree that the Zaggsparq needs an indicator to let you know it has completely charged itself up. And yes I also agree about the case scratching easily, I hate shiny black for that very reason. It would have been better to be matte black. And yes again, I believe ZAGG rushed this device to the market without properly testing it, so they could get the Christmas revenue.

After 3.5 months of waiting, I finally received the Zaggsparq 2.0 today. In fact, it's on the charger as I type. The free gift was a pair of ZaggBuds
1 ZAGGsparq 2.0
1 ZAGGbuds (Orange/Blue no mic)
Both items were sent FedEx and arrived in 2 days.
The Zaggbuds are nice although the left speaker has an annoying crackling sound which occurs even when NOT plugged in. I imagine, on the inside of the speaker, there some tiny piece of plastic which crinkles during movement. It's not a problem with the sound quality itself, just the movement of the bud while in the ear. I replaced the rubber adapter with a foam adapter (which was included) and the same problem occurred. I wore the left speaker in my right ear and heard the same noise. I swapped the right adapter with the left adapter and the crinkling still existed.
The Zagg.com website does not give me an option to exchange the Zaggbuds (or the Zaggsparq for that matter), so I'll need to call them (for the 8th time) on Monday.
Hopefully, the Zaggsparq 2.0 will work as advertised and I won't need to exchange that one too...

dlp1000,
You got one already and received a free gift? I returned my defective Zaggsparq's back in January and still don't have replacements.
I'm not surprised that the Zaggbuds they sent you are defective, as ZAGG seems to only make defective stuff.

You guys waited too long and were too patient.
You all should have returned the units for a refund and been done with them.
And as free gifts go....I would have preferred a partial refund( or at least my choice of buds)

I just spoke with ZAGG on the phone and they said my Zaggsparq's should be shipped out next week. I stressed to them that I have been waiting since January and they replied, "thanks for your patience".
Really ZAGG.....that's it....really? At the very least I thought they would ship my units overnight.
Anyone ever considering buying from ZAGG, my suggestion is to stay away!

Here is my latest email from them when I asked for the return envelopes.
I do apologize for any inconvenience as we would not be needing you to turn in your defective ZAGGsparq. We have also changed the shipping time for the ZAGGsparq 2.0. We will go ahead and mail you one at the beginning of late April. Again I do apologize for any inconvenience and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us again.
Did they actually let you keep you defective one and still receive v2.0 + whatever 'gift' they are going to give? That doesn't make sense since they probably need the unit to confirm, in order to send the replacement. You're lucky, if they let you keep it (and if it still somewhat works).
Well, that's interesting that you got that email because back in FEB when a I got an email stating their apology & their offer to replace ZAGGsparq, I called the following week to apply for the return envelope. I waited and nothing came.
Finally, I called again around late APR and they said something about they saw the record of the envelope request. This has been 2 months (???) and I didn't get anything in the mail. Then they re-sent the order of the return envelope. They told me they should be start shipping the new units in two weeks (I see that someone just received the replacement+gift this early MAY), including the 'sweet gift.' The sooner I sent the ZAGGsparq to them, the sooner I'll get the v2.0 + gift.
I finally got the envelope and immediately packaged the old, defective unit (which is mostly still worthy in working order). Now time to wait...

Apparently they couldnt see return labels to some of the international customers, so some would end up with 2 sets. If that is the case, some would be lucky to have a spare set. Mine was down with a month and due to bad timing, I cant get a refund. Defective sets have to be returned within 45 days for a refund.
99 bucks for a crap gadget and lousy customer service.

I received an email from ZAGG today saying my replacement Zaggsparq's are being processed and they are including a free pair of Zaggbuds. I wish they would have just refunded some of my money instead. I really have no need for anymore of their products after this fiasco. To me, ZAGG stands for defective products.

I realize this is a thread about the recalled Zaggsparq 1.0, however, when my replacement Zaggsparq 2.0 arrived, I also received a free set of Zaggbuds.
After 3.5 months of waiting and the fact Zagg sells Zaggbuds for $60, I expected the sound quality to be extraordinary. Instead, there are two unique things about these headphones which make them standout.
First, there is a strange crackle while placing the buds inside the ear. On the first pair of Zaggbuds, this happened only in the left ear while in the replacement set, I heard the crackle in both ears.
Second, the Zaggbud cable itself causes a stethoscope-like affect insofar as any tapping or movement is substantially amplified and played through the speaker. It's actually quite remarkable how disruptive this is while walking, riding, or even tapping on the cord.
You can confirm these anomalies are not being caused by a short because both issues occur even when the headphones are not plugged in to a player.
Has anyone else noticed these issues with the Zaggbuds?
Does the Zaggsparq 2.0 work as advertised? I charged mine overnight then left it unconnected for 2 days before the charge light dropped to 75%. I'm still planning on giving it a thorough run through, however, I need to remember... it seems to loose 25% of it's charge when not being used for 2 days.

The 2nd effect of the zagg bud seems to be the same for anyone who has their earpiece in tight. The closed ear canal amplifies any sound the body creates.
25% in 2 days? guess they never bothered to fix that problem. Their CSO told me that the unit loses 1% per day but that doesnt seem to be the case.

It was $99.99 and they had a special prior to Christmas at half off. Considering all the failure rates, $49 was still to much. I can't imagine paying $200, not even now for the fixed Zaggsparq 2.0.
And while ZAGG corrected the issue where of the Sparq not charging other devices, they haven't addressed how quickly it dissipates its own power when not used. It seems to have a very short shelf life in the real world, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a backup power supply.

Well I used my Zaggsparq 2.0 after it was charged up fully and didn't get 4 full charges to my iPhone like ZAGG claims I should. I got 1 full charge and 3 half charges. On the final charge to my iPhone it stopped charging it and almost seemed like my iPhone was charging the Sparq. Not having a good feeling about this so far.

Here is another interesting issue I discovered about my new Zaggsparq 2.0. I just fully charged it up for 9 hours and it showed 4 LEDs (100%), then connected my iPhone with an almost fully depleted battery. Upon completing the iPhone charge, my Sparq now only shows 2 LEDs (50%) of power left. Are you kidding me ZAGG?
tm.chen
May 25, 2010, 12:27 AM
it seems like the LED will drop by 1 when it is not at 100%. So you might still have enough charges for 3 more charges but Sparq just does not reflect properly.

Dont think it works that way. 100% is 4 LEDs, once it goes to about 97 or 98% then it drops to 3 LED. So I am guessing that he has 51-70% charge left on his Sparq but the circuit would only light up 2 due to the logic.

tm.chen, you were right. I did another full charge on my iphone with the Sparq that started at 2 LED's and after the charge it was still at 2 LED's. So I am at 2 full charges from the Sparq to my iPhone and showing 2 LED's.

My other Zaggsparq 2.0 has been shelved after a full 9 hour charge, and after about a week it is now down to 3 LED's. So if the Sparq loses 1% per day, as ZAGG claims, then this Sparq should be down 7% and have a total charge of 93%. This means 3 LED's equals 75 to 99% of charge left and appears to be doing as expected.
Can't say I am still to pleased with how quickly the Zaggsparq 2.0 loses a charge. With those numbers you would rarely ever get 4 full iPhone charges out of the device. And considering it takes 9 full hours to recharge the Sparq, it's not something you can just top off before leaving on a trip. Probably works better for iPhone half charges.

Resist
May 31, 2010, 11:10 PM
If that button stays depressed then I assume your LED lights won't come on? Because if this button is always in the on position, then your batteries are most likely dead, due to the energy draw from the LED's. I would just inform ZAGG and get a replacement. Here we go again, more ZAGG quality control drama.
Just got an email of a confirmation of ZAGG receiving the ZAGGsparq 1.0 after 3 weeks from envelope drop. Hopefully I'll get the ZAGGsparq 2.0 1-2 weeks because currently they're out of stock! Maybe the next batch might not have that battery shelving problem.

Maybe the next batch might not have that battery shelving problem.I seriously doubt that ZAGG has redesigned the Zaggsparq 2.0 from what it just released. They hadn't even admitted that there was a shelf life issue with the first Zaggsparq, let alone version in 2.0. In fact, ZAGG claims a 1% loss per day of battery power is normal. And with that math, there is no way to get 4 full iPhone charges out of the device in 4 days, if you charged it up once per day.

I have owned the Xbox (white version) since it's release and have not had one problem with it. ZAGG just told me now that after the initial full charge of 9 hours for the Zaggsparq 2.0, whenever you charge it up again it should only be for 8 hours. The included manual says nothing about 8 hour charges.
Why didn't they just put an indicator on the device letting us know when it is fully charged up? I have LED flashlights that do that. During charging an indicator shows red and then green when it's complete. It's simple and inexpensive, yet works.

I can't believe I am still having issues with the Zaggsparq 2.0. I once again charged it up for a full 9 hours, showing 4 LED's. Then I plugged my iPhone 3G into it. After several hours my iPhone showed only a 1/4 charge and the Zaggsparq 2.0 is down to 2 LED's.
I also noticed that if the Zaggsparq 2.0 only has 1 LED, it will not fully charge my iPhone at all. And yes I am using the supposed "optimized" port on the device.
Something is clearly not right with the Zaggsparq 2.0.

Hmmm... I wonder if the LED's are just purely inaccurate. Have you tried to see how many charges you get out of the unit until the unit is dead, ignoring the LEDs? I know this is not at all useful if the LEDs don't show what is indeed left in the unit, but I'd be interested to know if it still holds the charge.

Hi, I'm bumping this thread as my zaggsparq 2.0 just arrived yesterday and I wish I read this thread before making my impulse purchase a few weeks ago.
Anyhow, something seems really fishy with the way this device works. My 4 LEDS on my unit are never ever on unless it is plugged into the wall. They aren't even on when I am charging my phone with it. And what is that round button supposed to do? I assume it should turn on the LEDs but it does absolutely nothing, I tried pressing it, holding it down and reading it poetry but it doesn't do anything??? Is this normal behavior?
I'm just confused why I can't even see the LED's when I'm away from the outlet because I'll have no idea how much charge I have left in the zaggsparq.

So the CSR called the supervisor and put me on hold and then they told me that they are sending me a whole new unit WITHOUT needing the old one back.

Wow.
I've been using ZAGG Invisible Shields for years and years. I got a 50% coupon code (really easy to come by) and ordered this ZAGGsparq thinking it would be just what I needed for keeping my phone charged over a long weekend with not power supply.
It arrived in the mail today. Apparently Dead on Arrival.
- A pathetically simple "manual"...just a single sheet of paper
- The packaging fell apart when I tried opening the box...apparently the Quality Control issues extend far beyond the actual product.
- Plugged the unit into the wall for it's initial 9 hour charge. No lights, even though the instruction page says the bottom light would be lit while charging.
- No indication anywhere on the function of the small button below the LEDs...is it an on/off switch????
I sent a comment to them via their website. THEN I found THIS forum. Sheesh. After so much success with their invisible shields you'd think they would be able to get this product right...especially with the new V2.0.
I'm going to send them another note and if I don't get a return email from them after the weekend I'll call them. Had I read this forum first I'd have never bothered with the product. After all their issues...I receive a brand new DEAD unit. I just want to return it and get my money back.

12:15:16 AM : Larry: Terrible engineering in this product don't you think?
12:15:38 AM : Lisa K: The ZAGGsparq needs to charge for at least 9 hours for a full charge. When it reaches 25%, the first light will come on.

12:15:56 AM : Lisa K: Correct.
12:15:58 AM : Lisa K: Is there anything else I can assist you with?
12:16:43 AM : Larry: I find it hard to fathom that a company that received hundreds of complaints about the sparq v1.0 didn't bother to address the main usability issues.
12:17:20 AM : Lisa K: I appreciate your feedback. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
12:17:25 AM : Larry: Please just pass along my complaint to the powers that be. Pass along my email address as well. xxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com

12:19:11 AM : Larry: (Thanks for the email address...I will def. contact him.)
12:20:03 AM : Lisa K: Yes, we are aware of that discrepancy in the instruction sheet as well. The button will cause the LEDs to light up when the ZAGGsparq is not plugged in, indicating how much charge the ZAGGsparq has.
12:20:21 AM : Lisa K: And please do contact him. Customer feedback is very important to us.
12:20:30 AM : Larry: I think the company needs to stop using the tagline "we are zealous about great gadgets!" until they prove that they actually ARE!
12:20:50 AM : Larry: k.. Thanks Lisa. I do appreciate contacting a real person at this late hour!
12:21:33 AM : Lisa K: Thank you for chatting with me Larry.
12:21:38 AM : Lisa K: I hope you have a pleasant weekend :)
12:21:44 AM : Larry: you too. thanks
12:21:53 AM : System: Lisa K has left this session!

My  "unhappy customer" letter will going out to the president. If any of you are still having troubles, I suggest you do the same. Releasing an improperly tested product is one thing. Releasing a V2.0 of the product which hasn't addressed ANY of the usability issues is an insult to the customer base and should be a huge embarrassment to the entire ZAGG organization. :(

Thanks! The sparq seems to be nothing but trouble. I'll check the product you mentioned.

After numerous replacements, I am done with this product and ZAGG. I will never purchase anything from this company again!

I just bought a zaggsparq a few months ago for travel. Lets just say I am
not in love with the product. Like others, I purchased it due to Zagg's
reputation with the invisible shield. I have the shield on a few devices and
I think it is a great product. With that said, I thought I would buy the
zaggsparq. Well it did not live up to the zagg quality that I had
anticipated. First off, I do want to say that all of my lights light up
after charging for a bit and when I press the little button. So I feel lucky
in that respect. On the other hand, the sparq doesn't seem to hold a full
charge for more than a day of not using it. Also, the optimized port doesn't
charge the iPhone 3G properly. When plugged into this USB port, the iPhone
battery doesn't register that it is being charged. If I keep it plugged in
for a bit, then unplug and plug it into the regular USB port, then the
iPhone battery indicates that there has been some charge. I do know my phone
works fine when plugged into the wall or computer port. I know the optimized
port works because it charges my iPod just fine. So what¹s the deal. It says
the optimized port works with smart phones, iPhones included. Apparently not
that good. In my opinion, this product is not all that great, and I would
not buy another one unless they fix the problems that everyone seems to
have.

the sparq doesn't seem to hold a full charge for more than a day of not using it. Also, the optimized port doesn't charge the iPhone 3G properly.ZAGG claims it loses 1% of charge per day, I find mine loses much more than that. I had the same issue with the Zaggsparq and my iPhone 3G not being charged properly, but this only happened after the iOS 4.0 upgrade. I have since moved to the iPhone 4 and don't have this issue any longer. But now I don't get the claimed 4 full iPhone charges out of a fully charged Zaggsparq 2.0. The response from ZAGG was to return it for replacement. Well I've done that numerous times with no change, so clearly it's a design issue.
For a product that takes 9 hours to fully charge, it sure doesn't store that power for very long before losing it. Leaving iPhone 4 users unable to get the claimed 4 full charges to their device.
Zaggsparq 2.0 = FAIL!

I hate to drudge this thread up again, but I just received 2 free Zagg Sparq 2.0's in the mail. I won them last week on Twitter. This is my first experience with the 2.0, so I'll see how they both work.

I do a lot of backpacking and used to carry a AA charger and about 16 lithium cells for a week. Cost of about $40. I found the zagg sparq 2 figured great. 4 charges should last about a week and weigh less. Ordered first one first of feb. Charged up hit the trail for 4 days and worked great. Came home tried to charge unit and wouldn't charge unless I set at an angle. After inspection I could see the prongs were floppy and sounded like piece of plastic broke inside. Requested another one and it came 3rd week of feb. Charged it up, used it around the house to test. Got 3.75 charges from 10% on my x. Tried to recharge it and same exact problem. Zagg has some serious quality control or design issues. I sent back for refund this week. In meantime I found the imp1000 from new trent. Beats the crap out of zagg and less money. Almost twice the storage at 11000ma.

I think everyone is in agreement that the Zaggsparq is a piece of junk (versions 1 and 2).
There are many better products available. Why Zagg continues to sell this is beyond me. I suppose they have inventory to get sell down. Still, not a very customer centric approach.

Glad to see this thread is still going. I hope ZAGG has been following it. Thanks to the Internet, consumers spread the word much faster about terrible products. And if companies are smart they would monitor these Internet complaints and make the adjustments to their products.
I'm not seeing anything to indicate that ZAGG gets it yet. They still advertise the Zaggsparq 2.0 as providing 4 full charges to the iPhone. This simply is not true, at least not for the current iPhone 4.
They are also listing this product as charging the iPad up to 60%, like that is something consumers desire. Who only wants a 60% charge on their iPad for crying out loud?
Hey ZAGG do us all a favor, either fix the Zaggsparq or remove it from the market. It was a huge failure!

How do you short the USB pins?
I have got no doubts that they work but the QC is definitely not there. I am requesting that they replace my replacement unit as the LED button is defective but I will have to pay for S&H for shipping it back to them and full cost IF they didnt receive my package.
No matter how I see it, I am at a loss here.
My father gave me his "defective" Zagg Sparq, which he didn't need anymore since he was sent a replacement one.
But this one also didn't work most of the time, it used to work then just stopped working.
Anyway, shorting the the USB ports DID FIX my ZAGG Sparq!
Here's how!
1) Fully charge it
2) Use metal tweasers - Put one leg of the tweaser into each USB port. Make sure the metal tweasers touch the metal pads inside the USB ports and/or the metal sides of the USB ports.
3) Your LED's will die on the Sparq, if you press the button they won't come on. So you've just verified you shorted it.
4) Plug the Sparq back into a wall socket
5) take it out, test LED's - all 4 should come on.
6) Charge your device and smile :)
That worked for me anyway!
Thanks for the tip.

I received a free Zaggsparq 2.0 the other day. I was excited because then I could charge my iPhone and iPad with the same thing at night while it was plugged into the wall and then use it again in the day when my iPhone needed more power.
For me it looks like you can't charge the ZAGGsparq and charge devices at the same time. If it's plugged into an outlet and a device then the Zaggsparq will charge the devices but not itself, and then just die and your devices don't fully charge. Do I have a defective unit or is this actually how it is supposed to work, I wouldn't think so though.

Got myself a ZaggSparq 2.0 last Wednesday, works great on my iPad but refuses to work with my iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4th. The devices just keep switching from charge to battery icon several times before reporting the accessory is not compatible.
All devices running iOS 4.3.5, tried both ports (same thing) and two Apple USB cables.

I have to say, I sent an email to the "president" and they called me within 2 hours. They replaced my device by rushing it to my travel destination and it was fully charged for me on arrival. Their QA process is obviously horrible, but I'm willing to forgive them and wish them well. Thanks for this thread!
