They frequently comes in threes, and after the release of two new iPhone ads (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2010/04/20/apple-releases-two-new-iphone-ads-dog-lover-and-backpacker/) earlier this week, it's no surprise that a third one has now been posted to Apple's iPhone ad gallery (http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads/#familyman-large). The new commercial, entitled 'Family Man', shows how various members of a family can use the iPhone's apps for their individual needs. Highlighted apps include:

- Photos (Built-in)
- App Store (Built-in)
- 20 Minute Meals - Jamie Oliver (http://appshopper.com/lifestyle/jamie-olivers-20-minute-meals) ($7.99)
- Elmo's Monster Maker (http://appshopper.com/games/elmos-monster-maker) ($3.99)
- Viper SmartStart (http://appshopper.com/lifestyle/viper-smartstart) (Free App, Requires Viper SmartStart Equipment)

Doesn't Apple want everyone in the house to have their own iPhone?

Yeah they do, but I think they are targeting families that don't yet have one.

In reality, once one family member gets one, they may multiply!

Because the iPhone apps can be so addictive, the result may then be that the other family members all want one of their own.... :)

I noticed that in EVERY iPhone ad the time is always 9:42.

wonder what significance that time holds?

I noticed that in EVERY iPhone ad the time is always 9:42.

Its not only that way in iPhone ads but in ALL ads from ALL Apple products.
Here is possible explanation:
Ar Apple it's all about reducing audible and visible noise, less is more. Using a different time in every spot would be more noise (clutter) than using the same time in every spot. Using the same time means it becomes essentially invisible (like an indicator that is always on or always of). And why is it exactly 9:24 AM? 9:24 AM is a very good time, during workdays your fully awake and working, very productively. During holydays or weekends you'r having a wonderful, nice breakfeast with your family or friends. That's why 9:42 is probably the perfect time of the day!

All iPhone images may be 9:42, but all iPad images are at 9:41 !

Basically, it is the estimated time when a product is launched approximately 40 mins into the launch presentation so that the time on the screenshots will match the watches of the audience. It was merely a guess by apple which has worked well and been carried forward in other products.

The detailed unearthing of this phenomenon is here:

This mobile phone very slim, very good picture clarity and very good sound clarity, so it is very nice.

And gives developers free publicity (which is Very important).

I think doctoree is right.

Apple wants to use 1 time because it distracts us less from the product. And 9.42 AM is a pretty good time for most people.

Doesn't Apple want everyone in the house to have their own iPhone?

If the iPhone 4* comes out with video conferenecing it would make a lot of sense for families to all own the same smart phone. There are many advantages of having the same phone, especially if there are unique features only available between that device.
