Hello everyone,

some time ago i joined this forum and asked a question about switching from pc to Apple, i was also wondering if it was a smart thing to buy the current macpro (to be honest i don't really know all that much about hardware or computers in general) so after some responses from you guys i decided to wait it out a little more for the new macpro. i checked it last week but still not a new release, i emailed sjobs@apple (read on this forum that he sometimes replies) asking him about when we could expect the macpro and if the prices are going to be changed. To my surprise i got a response after 20 minutes:eek:

No Need to update yet. The current Mac Pro is still a very good and Powerfully efficient workstation.

Sent from my iPhone

does this reply make sense to anyone, i thought a new macpro was going to be released, is it save to say we wont be seeing a macpro for the next couple of months or even 2010, i'm not familiar with how Apple handles updates and stuff
and is it actually steve jobs replying or is this just an automated computer reply?

You should reply saying something to the effect of "it's ridiculously expensive for what you get. I'll just make a significantly better spec'd machine and hackintosh it. And I'll do it for half the price."

i don't have no reason to lie about it, don't even have a mac yet :(

but no problem
how do i open full headers (i'm on pc and use outlook express)

Also, is this imac

http://store.apple.com/fr/configure/MB953F/A?mco=MTM3NjAyNjA

a better option than this macpro at this moment

http://store.apple.com/fr/configure/MB535F/A?mco=MTM4MzEwOTM

to be honest i don't really care about having the latest, either way its going to be a huge improvement for me anyway

...will you really need the power and expandability of the MP?

Even if they do update them soon, unless your work requires it the iMac is powerful and expensive compared to other makers offerings (this is being typed on a HP a6650F quad AMD PC with a user installed 4450 ATi video card running win7 64bit with 2.5 Tb of internal storage = $509 out the door... it may not be as small as a mini but its my HTPC and its not loud at all)...

I like my iMac and dual monitor setup and its valuable for my work as work runs iMac's, my whitebook is also portable but I dual boot to winXP when needed and my eeePC gets carried everywhere for the size factor so I don't expect to upgrade any machines for at least another 3 years unless some groundbreaking software comes out that just won't run on my machines (my Wii and PS3 take care of my gaming wants)...

Comparing those particular iMacs and Mac Pros, you should purchase based on what you will be using your computer for.

IMO, iMac is the way to go. And even if the Pro's were updates tomorrow, you wouldn't be left in the dust by any means. It's still a beast of a computer.

Until it's on the front page of MR, this is BS. A lot of people are pissed at how much the Mac Pro sucks and how much of a rip off it is. Jobs has to know that even if he reads even 1% of his emails (one has to have slipped through).

i received an email response about 20 minutes after i had send it...now how do i know if its actually steve jobs doing the replies, some computer generated reply or some guy getting payed to awnser the emails...very simple, i don't know and i don't have a direct line so i can ask him. you believe it or you don't, really that simple but i don't see a reason for me to just pick it out of thin air...i'm in the market myself for a Mac system my very first one if i may say so:D

when i go to email properties (is this the headers you mean stevie jobs?) i get this (i left my data out)

Received: from mail-out3.apple.com ([17.254.13.22])
Received: from relay14.apple.com (relay14.apple.com [17.128.113.52])
Received: from elliott.apple.com (elliott.apple.com [17.151.62.13])
by relay14.apple.com (Apple SCV relay) ... etc

i'm still not sure if i should buy the imac or macpro...when reading this forum it seems that the imac gives to most performance for my buck at the moment and i get to save 1000$ :D....and as mentioned before it will be a huge improvement anyway, at the moment i'm on pc with the first generation dual core and 2 Gb of memory...if i'm right even the macmini is faster wright?

mmmm luxury problems

I swear I've seen a Steve-mail in the past that sung the same tune as the one posted here.

T'was at least a couple years back, so I can't recall the details (like exactly when).

If anyone else can remember, then maybe we can figure out what Steve's angle is on this based on the past - assuming this email is real (while also proving I haven't gone insane and made stuff up :p)

Didn't SJ say at the ATD conference in June that Google was in for a world of hurt with Google TV for variety of reasons? And now there are rumors that Apple TV is about to be revamped.

You are right. One seemingly can read more into what SJ says Apple will not do. Mac Pros must be just around the corner if this email is authentic

In any way I would wait for either iMac or Mac Pro to be updated before I bought something, unless you really need it right now.

The i5 iMac isn't bad value tho, the screen alone is costly if you want something similar. The Dell Ultrasharp U2711 is the closest screen you get compared to the iMac and it costs $1099 from Dell (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&sku=224-8284&redirect=1)

The iMac is $1999, so you'll pay $900 for a i5 2.66GHz Quadcore with 4GB RAM and 1TB HD and Ati 4850.

I don't find this supposed statement to be encouraging at all, at least in the very short term. In fact it just goes to show how out of touch the responder is with the Pro marketplace.

harlem
Jul 4, 2010, 10:32 AM
i decided to just wait till the end of July (my current system still works so no big problem) if its not by the end of July (and I'm guessing not because of the not so much encouraging email response) than i'm going with an imac. its cheaper than the mac pro and if a few months after the new macpro is released, being twice as fast, i wouldn't feel so bad because i paid so much for the current macpro.

oh yeah, why do some people here see steve jobs reply as being positive in terms of "this means the mac pro is just around the corner"? does he usually responds to emails before an update release and say the product is not going to be updated yet?

Maybe its BS maybe it isn't, but one thing is for sure. Apple has not updated the MP line for some time and it doesn't look like they're in any hurry to do so.

Besides, what does the OP have to gain by lying about an update? Its not like he joined just to create this thread.

Apple's focus is on its iToys and less on computers, particularly the MacPro. Its not like they move a lot these babies, not when the low end MP is 2,500, how many units do you think they move. Not enough to justify expending resources to update it.

Taking the stance that this is fake, we all know that it's so hard to write an email with poor grammar claiming to be from Steve, and even more work to google for an example of headers.

The sad thing is, the resources to keep it updated have to be absolutely miniscule compared to the resources they put into new iPhones every year. Think of the good will they would maintain if they actually looked like they cared about people's work machines too. They've gotta be careful, seems like they are treading dangerous waters. So much effort is put into the iPhone and it seems like version 4 is a PR disaster. Go look at any other tech site and see how much people hate Apple now. They are starting to be made fun of on a variety of TV shows (which often have to edit it out, or apologize! Insanity...), and it just seems like the "coolness" factor is rapidly dying.

If they screw their base contingent for something that's about to be trumped by Android, who knows? Of course sales seem to only be going up recently so...

Sure, people can think what they want. And of course I, among many others, am waiting for the new MP. And since its been so long since the last update, I am questioning whether or not this is real. And ya, it makes no sense why someone would randomly make this up, cause who in their right mind would do something so stupid and for no reason? But I think we all know that this world is full of people who aren't in their right minds who like to do stupid things for no reason.

And I still find it interesting that you continuously try and avoid a simple screenshot or full headers. Also, its weird that you keep bringing up the idea that someone else is replying to you instead of Steve himself. If he doesn't want to reply to an email, he just won't. Why would he ever have someone else reply?

i'm not posting a screen shot simply because i don't take part in this hilarity + a screenshot wouldn't mean nothing, how naive can you be? like mentioned before its a 5 min. job to come up with a screenshot of an email with full headers, f*#k i could even throw in some extras.

all you guys asking for screenshots wouldn't even recognize a SJ email if it hit you in the head. Who started this "ooo post headers and screenshots" crap anyway.

Why would he ever have someone else reply?

i could think of a couple reasons. most of them commercial. How cool is it that one of the richest men alive actually takes time to respond to a kid from India asking why his Ipod skips songs for no good reason.....uhu:rolleyes: seriously...

It may take 5 minutes to mock up a fake e-mail screen, but it only takes 2 minutes to hit shift-cmd-4 and upload it. When you're asked to prove something in court, you can't just go "Yeah I could prove it, but i'm not gonna bother."

Can't you just feel the sense of not caring from the OP... with every post he makes about not caring.

Yea... just feel that....

In the time the OP has spent defending why he's not showing a screen shot he could have taken a hundred screen shots and posted them. Why spend so much time being stubborn? Because it's fake.

Also because harlem apparently isn't skilled enough to Photoshop a fake one. Pretty poor trolling overall.

part of me says that it was not actually Steve Jobs replying. Do you think Steve would actually have such a simple email address that the public could access?

That inbox must be rediculously large.

He does actually respond to some. You can find some in past Macrumors stories. I'm guessing he doesn't read all of his zillions of emails and most are probably screened by staff.

I emailed him and asked him for a couple billion dollars, but still haven't gotten a response. That's peanuts for him, isn't it? That Steve is so smug!

i'm not posting a screen shot simply because i don't take part in this hilarity + a screenshot wouldn't mean nothing, how naive can you be? like mentioned before its a 5 min. job to come up with a screenshot of an email with full headers, f*#k i could even throw in some extras.

all you guys asking for screenshots wouldn't even recognize a SJ email if it hit you in the head. Who started this "ooo post headers and screenshots" crap anyway.

i could think of a couple reasons. most of them commercial. How cool is it that one of the richest men alive actually takes time to respond to a kid from India asking why his Ipod skips songs for no good reason.....uhu:rolleyes: seriously...

Since you claim its real, a screen shot would take about 10 seconds.

And thanks for telling me what I would know newbie ;)

And last thing, Steve Jobs wouldn't reply to an email like that. He hardly responds to any emails in the first place. Those he wouldn't want to respond to, he just doesn't! No need at all for someone else to respond. He will just ignore them!

New ATI and NVIDIA drivers sure seem like at least something to me.

Or, as I've already mentioned, it is Apple taking notice of the Valve/Steam issues and opening up options for current MPs.

IF true, I think that a new MacPro is on the horizon
Who wants to watch video on their iPod?
We don't know how to make a $500 netbook that isn't a piece of crap
We have no intentions of entering the cell phone market.

I want Steve to keep saying we won't make a mini tower. That way Apple will finally build something that meets my needs.

There is NO credible evidence or truth behind this email at all... No primary source was mentioned at all in this nor did someone notice steve job's sending it.. since there is no evidence supporting this to be geuninly from the mouth of Steve Jobs, this is fantasy.. a heresay.

and above all: A FREAKING GAME SOMEONE IS PLAYING ON HERE!
