Picked up my new 21.5" iMac 1TB | Ram Upgrades?

Well guys it looks like I finally joined the iMac family 😀 I was going to wait for the new iMac but I picked up a minty mint 21.5" iMac 3.06ghz 4GB 1TB with Radeon 4670 this morning for...drum rolls....$650!

I almost bought one a couple months ago but I was going to wait out til August/Sept to hear a new iMac announcement - but this deal was way too good to pass up! Now I'm posting from my new (to me) iMac 😀

Anyways, in terms of RAM upgrades, what do you guys normally do? I do a lot of PS and I want up it from the current 4GB configuration. Do most people just do 2 more 2GB or 2 more 4GB (is that even possible?) - and for those daring, have anyone ever done four 4GB in this iMac?!

If it's the standard configuration with no changed parts, then its 2x2GB sticks you've got in there. If you don't want to get into more expensive ram, then just go for 2 more additional 2GB sticks for 8GB total of ram.

And yea, you can put 4x4GB sticks in for 16GB ram. A bit costly, and potentially unnecessary.

However, you can go the 2x4GB route for 8GB of ram and add additional 4GB sticks later on if you want. (You can mix the 4GB and 2GB sticks for 12 total, but there's some performance loss as a result of mixing different sizes)
 
Thansk Vylen, I think I will go with the 8GB option. That sounds more like what I need. The 4x4GB is nuts and probly will be better served in a MACPRO!

And no doubt it was an amazing deal. I was afraid of getting scammed but the gyt met me up at a starbucks and let me check it out and seems like a nice guy. Everything was great but it was even greater when I went home and found out it was a 1TB / Radeon 4670 version 😀 He had advertised it as the base model!
 
check out owc (google) and grab 2x4GB sticks for ~$350. that will give you 12GB TOTAL! crazy cheap. that will last you years.
 
If you mix, just make sure the frequencies are the same and that you put the same sticks next to each other. No alternating 😛

thats what i thought, as long as they are the same frequency latency then there is no loss - thats what i thought anyway *preys* (will pick up my extra 1x4GB stick tomorrow)
