View Full Version : can you use airport without a express unit?

I wanted to play games transfer files to a friends laptop who has an airport extreme card, do I actually need a router wirefree thingy? I also have a card.

you need a wireless access point, and if you don't already have a router you need that too.
some come built together. if you don't want to spring for airport express there's lots of cheaper ones at any computer store. anything 802.11b or 802.11g will work.
if you just need to transfer files get a crossover cable, its much faster.

no you dont. You can use the two cards in AdHoc mode without a base station. On the mac choose "Create AirPort Network" or on the PC you need to tell it to use AdHoc.
