I have a new retina MBP, which has no optical drive, and I have no other computers. The lack of an optical drive hasn't been a problem at all, except that I have a movie on DVD that doesn't seem to be available in digital form (iTunes Store, Amazon, etc.).

What is the best and/or fastest way to get this DVD onto my retina MBP, *without* needing to buy an optical drive?

If I pop the DVD into an optical drive and then copy it to a zip drive, will that yield a watchable file, or do I need to rip the DVD directly to the rMBP using a ripping app?

Thanks for all feedback.

Buy a usb DVD drive but then I see you don't want to do that.

still, its the best way to achieve what you want

Virtually all commercial DVDs are copy protected; you can't simply "copy" the disks. You need a ripping app.
