Does excel launch successfully if you double-clicking it from within your Applications folder? (i.e. before you try to open any saved excel files)

Also, if you haven't already after updating, try restarting your computer. Wouldn't hurt.

I have had 2011 since it came out. I have been operating it without problem until this morning. Admittedly, I haven't opened anything in a week or two, but now I am having the exact same problem.

Excel, specifically, will not open. I get the error message as above. Unlike the OP, I have nothing on my desktop, so that isn't the problem.

Thoughts?

Also, the problem exists whether opeing a file directly, or double-clicking in the application itself. Same whether opening from Dock or Apps Folder.

Can't figure it out...

Also had Excel problems after updating to 14.2. Constant beach balls for no apparent reason.

Resetting permissions Lion-style seems to have solved the problem.

After many tries, I finally found how to link a Word document to a cell in Excell 2011:
1. create a link to your document
2. In Excell, select the cell you want to link to
3. Right click - Hyperlink - Document (select your file)
4. Click on Web page (I don't understand why but it works!)
5. Click on locate
6. Click Ok on message errors (!!)
7. Click Ok

Have similar problem following reload of Office 2011 today

Error message received when trying to open Excel: You can’t open the application “Microsoft Excel.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete.
