NOOOOOOOOO!!! :(

Was eager for this one and quite surprised when

It didn't release by summer. I didn't expect Apple to include demos of software so vastly unfinished. Wouldn't they expect the mention in the keynote to have folks anxious for the software. Perhaps even a handful (small but still) buying the hardware due to the software.

You guys ever heard of the game Okami, where you use a virtual brush to draw things and control the game. I bet something like that would be awesome on a touchscreen. This game reminded of it, and it would have been great, maybe will still be great if it comes out.

Some fairly uninformed and frankly daft posts in this thread.

Dungeons was a prequel farmed out to another team because A: its a different style of game so it doesn't have to match the style of the first two quite so closely as they match each other and B: the team who made the first two are almost certainly making Infinity Blade 3 which wouldn't be due out yet anyway.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that this news spells the end for the franchise. I think its one of the most profitable on iOS, if not the most.

Given how far along IB:Dungeons looked from some of the demos and videos posted, it seems like it would be a waste to ditch it entirely. Hopefully there is enough code there to carry on with and its just a matter of getting a slavedriver to make the programmers or designers work harder to get the rest finished.

I'm very disappointed that this one has been put on hold, I still hope it will arrive eventually but even if it doesn't, IB3 will doubtless be awesome.

Something must have happened internally, when they say this "offering the option to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name." it sounds like one of the leads didn't like things and quit or was fired, but they want to keep some of the other workers maybe? Just sounds to fishy to me.

The issue with delaying it is that the hardware of the iPhone keeps getting better while making Epic's technology deteriorate.

It is strange seeing so much angst (maybe that's a bit strong) or concern over yet another brain dead time wasting life wasting game. Sure, we cannot, and indeed would not want to impose any sort of intellectual requirements on individuals but if anyone remembers the original iPad intro there were life affirming images of them being used as tools for knowledge that was formerly presented in such a way as to be virtually inaccessible to people without high levels of training.

If ones takes a step back from the world and looks at the brain deadening influence and reach of facebook and twitter it would seem that the world is heading in a direction of producing a general population of faceless twits.

Wake up and smell the coffee, then perhaps ruminate on the molecules that drift into the receptor neurones and how an electric potential is delivered to and rerouted to maybe thousands of synapses and somehow, some sort of "I" has a sensation of what this smell means. Or not. But at least one would hope that the possibility to do this is one of choice and not because people have become so dumbed down as to think this very post is just annoying or threatening.

Ahh, apple, attracts and shows off off these high profile games and apps, then developers realise they cant actually turn a profit on them with apples cut, and the fact that microtransatcions are not a revenue stream unless you get kids to buy smurfberries on an app that took a week to create specifically to con people out of money.

the iPhone/iPad and App-store revenue streams have all done really really well so far, but now the market is mature, its not all Ohh and Ahh and new, people are being more careful with the apps they are installing, and have come to realise that high-concept , dare i say, Console, games, just don't work on the phones and tablets as well as they do on a big TV with a proper controller, or, on a 3DS or Vita portable games console with physical controls.

the emerging market for mobile apps is no longer emerging, its here, and now needs to evolve, and the early race to the bottom, the 99cent or lower app, has now damaged it for good, too few of the casual app purchases that have initially made this market place a success for the dinky apps that let you track how many times your cat has farted this week, these people will look at a game on mobile phone or tablet from Sega, or Square and go "thats worth $20", when a similar, less polished game they are going to play for the same length of time is free, or under a $.

Victim of the perceived "normalcy" of the ecosystem where a $10 app is seen as "expensive" and anything over that as either a rip off, or specialist work tool.

Apple should hand epic a wad of cash and say FINISH THIS ! then install it on every iPhone and iPad as a trail version from the end of the year.

Failing that Blizzard should give Epic a wad of cash, the Diablo 3 assets and say make it into THIS ! then release it on the iPad and iPhone next year.

This game is halted, not canceled/stopped. I do see a possible end 2013/early 2014 release for this game. This game was (when demoed) fantastic. Diablo III style gameplay

Yes and no. This really feels like Blizzard all over again.
Blizzard North made Diablo 2. And it was amazing. And Blizzard North was tasked with making Diablo 3. North showed the rest of Blizzard their work for Diablo 3. And it was terrible. So terrible that Blizzard killed off their Blizzard North department and Blizzard itself finished off Diablo 3.

I think this is the same as with this third infinity blade game. Maybe impossible studios did work for IB3 and Epic looked at it and for whatever reason was not happy so they disbanded impossible studios and will either finish the game themselves or get someone else to do it. The cash cow that is the IB series I don't think will be put out to pasture just as yet.

Hmm... maybe this should be a lesson for other mobile game developers...

Don't charge $7.99 per download of games with absolutely no replay value.

I bought the first Inifinity Blade title, and never again, because #1 it was stupid, and #2 too expensive.

IB 1 and 2 were immensely sucessful. If anything they showed that devs should be charging more, not less. The failure of this game has nothing to do with the other games.

it happens

Well.. it happens. It's one thing when you hand something of to another company, it's another when you have no idea what will happen after.

easy come, easy go...

The game looked cool.. but Epic made a big mistake here. Even though it appears to be "halted" i have my reasons.. :)

like why was is halted shortly only "After" they got it ?

Read "indefinitely" If they don't even know, then how are you expect consumers to.

Neither did I. The gameplay was boring and the theme ridiculous.

But that's the most sad thing of the story: Infinity Blade Dungeons was a dungeon crawler of diablo style, with free movement and actions, not in the style of the other IB games. It looked so promising and so different, that it would definitely be a huge success.

That old chestnut of software development.

It just shows how difficult it is to develope software. We still see no effective business model for how to do this. Maybe it should be more like the Film industry where production companies come together tom make a project and then dissolve. But in software development you need to constanly develop the code so that each iteration is better than the last. Answers on a post card to ….:D

The Big Lebowski said it best :D

The gameplay is excellent, especially for IB 2 which you surely did not play. Plus Brandon Sanderson's book filling the story gap between IB 1 and 2 was a good (and short) read. That's why I am disappointed with the situation as more of the storyline would be filled in with this game.

You must be fun at parties. Games, and wasting time have their place as well as "higher" pursuits. some, like chess and tetris actually improve the neural network. ;)

Has everything to do with the poor business model. They put an insane amount of time and money into the graphics of the game, and the gameplay was terrible. I mean absolutely awful. When I say "no replay value" what else do you imagine I mean? Eventually people stop spending money on expensive games that they know, by the title alone, will have no replay value.
