I noticed image retention once yesterday when I was shutting down, I could see a faint image of my desktop background. I just performed the test posted earlier in this forum and my screen passed so I'm not sure what to think at this point.
Thank you for the refreshing postI say enjoy it for as long as you can while it is problem free. If problems do arise, then have Apple look at it.
Personally, I feel like I've wasted a bit too much time worrying about a something that could potentially be disastrous instead of better using that time to just soak in the experience that is available now. Going forward, I'm doing a 180 on my original doubts and worries. For all we know, a silent revision has already taken place, or there may be one impending.

Just received mine.
No idea if it's an LG or Samsung but the quality is astonishing coming from a 2009 anti-glare!!
Guess you got a 13". None of us know either. Welcome to blissful ignorance!
Sadly, I suspect we are all LG panel owners - as far as I know, 13" are only LG.
Late-2013 Haswell rMBP13 /8/512
Manufacturer: 0610 (as everyone)
Model: A018
Manuf. date: CCD71000
Unfortunately there was a small bump in the bottom case, so I called Apple to mention it (to prevent denied warranty in the future), but they ended up sending me a replacement machine :/
FWIW the screen was fine after marco.org 10 minute checkerboard test (remember to look away to persistence of vision problems)
Source?
These are the 3 13.3" retina panels I've been able to find - both Samsung and LG:
LSN133DL01-V07 SAMSUNG 13.3"
LSN133DL01-V01 SAMSUNG 13.3"
LP133WQ1-SJA1 LG Display
see my link:

I know you're going to get a new laptop, but can you run the command mentioned in this post? It will give an exact production week and year.
Only the LG one is IPS in that list, the Samsungs are PLS. Not sure if that matters though.
For all intents and purposes, they are the same:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel#Super_PLS
>> ioreg -l | grep IODisplayEDID | sed 's/^.*<//g' | cut -b 33-36
Returns: 3016
More info:
My Spyder3Pro using Argyll (./spotread) shows that the centre-luminance is 310nits (270nits top left corner).
Here is my sub-pixel layout.

These guys have an mid-2012 retina review, and they refer to the Samsung PLS panel:
http://www.digitalversus.com/laptop/apple-15-macbook-pro-with-retina-display-2012-p13532/sneak-peek-macbook-pro-next-gen-retina-display-n24927.html
"Like with the new iPad, Apple went with PLS technology (a derivative of Samsung's IPS displays). " [for the retina MBP15]
Same sub-pixel layout as mine

Therefore I think that the A018 screens are Samsung - *assuming* that digitalversus is correct with having a PLS type panel.

Out of curiosity, how did you photograph that? DSLR and a macro lens?
Well, my haswell 13'' is A018, and it displayed image retention. So if it is a samsung, looks like samsungs can have IR too.
Either way, its going back. 13'' was a bit too small for me anyways.
I have a Nikon SMZ645 stereomicroscope in my home lab x50 magnification.
That is not image retention. It is a Mavericks bug. There's a thread about that.15" 2.3 16GB
