so many awesome pictures in this thread!
Here's a 640x480 @300 dpi, iBlue. The hues seem incredible, but it's every bit that, and more.

So it seems as though over half of you don't know what a "landmark" is. :p Lets just rename this thread the "Cool Places" thread or something.

Anyway, here are some landmarks for you.

1. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9706/chiangkaishekmemorial1zb.jpg

2. Site of the First Landing at Viti Levu. Yes, it "sort of" happened a long time ago.

3. From the top of Franz Josef Glacier

4. Home of the Rings

http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/8011/homeoftherings8ei.jpg

5. The world's largest outdoor bronze buddha. Actually, he's not fat, he's "big-boned."

http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/5862/largestoutdoorbronzebuddha4sr.jpg

6. One of the world's most beautiful harbours, and it's also home to one of the "50 things in the world you need to see in your lifetime" according to Discovery (I think); namely, the world's only permanent light and fireworks show.

7. Another nice harbour......."Darling" Harbour. I've tried to avoid photos of things that have already been covered in this thread, so I've included a shot of the Opera House at night. ;) Joy!!

8. Christchurch Art Museum, and a bunch of other "landmarks" near Christchurch. *snickers* :p
Museum: http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/1021/img02072bv.jpg
Bunch of very tall rocks (although they look small here):

9. Victoria Peak. It was too foggy to take photos of the city from here, so I just took a shot of some good ol' fog .

Believe me, there is no experience which can compare to traveling. I just don't understand how anyone can never leave their home, or even their own country for that matter. Traveling opens your mind and makes you so much more of a well-rounded human being, the experiences are impossible to explain. There's a lot to see out there and I'm going to take in as much as I possibly can. For every place I visit, it seems like I add 3 more onto my list. ;)

Yep, that's the way it works - but it's a great problem to have. Happy travels! :)

We found The Spike very, very useful when we visited Dublin – was a couple of streets away from our hotel so no matter where we went in Dublin, if we got lost we just had to look up and follow The Spike home! :p

The first time I went to Dublin I was meeting someone I'd never met before. I was to meet her at The Spike, I thought she meant a pub. I got off the coach, looked round and saw it.
I thought: "Ah, That'd be the Spike then!"

It is a very useful landmark!

Congrats on a image that should have a big spot on your wall....

Thanks Chip. It does indeed have a spot on the wall! That one, and the one of the ridge of the Grand Canyon, are two of my current favourites!

But now you've encouraged me, I'm going to post a few more - some of the Vegas highlights... going all around the world! Starting as this thread did, with the Eiffel Tower ;)

Actually Chip, something I spotted a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to mention... one of our local pubs is using your avatar as its sign! You can just about make it out on this pic.

A little off topic perhaps, but in my mind at least pubs count as worthy landmarks... :p

I have known photographers that seem to spend their lives looking for that iconic image that is different from the rest. You succeeded with that Golden Gate image.

But now you've encouraged me, I'm going to post a few more - some of the Vegas highlights... going all around the world! Starting as this thread did, with the Eiffel Tower ;)

Love Vegas! Love your shots! Though I am more of a "deconstructionist" when it comes to Vegas.

Wish the pic were a bit larger in resolution! Just think my avatar as a "landmark". :D

Here are some pictures from a short trip to China I took in 2002. Some of you know that I teach English in China now full time so I have lots more pictures, but these are the most popular places. :)

I'm really sorry if these are too big. I sized them down to 1078x768.
Don't shoot me!

Terra Cotta Long Shot.JPG

Terra Cotta Warriors. You have to see them in real life. They are amazing!
Artsy Great Wall.JPG

My favorite shot of the Great Wall. We were only there for about 2 hours.
Kendra on the Wall.JPG

That's my wife before she was my wife and before our first child.
Great Wall Best Shot.JPG

This is the best wide shot I took that day, it is so smoggy in China.
