Hmm. I installed the Boot Camp 1.3 drivers. I'm using nTUNE from nVidia to check the clock speeds. It displays them dynamically under Windows XP Pro. I'm getting 375 core clock speed and 502 memory clock speed (x2) no matter whether running 2D or 3D apps.

I know the previous model of MBP would upclock the core of the Mobility Radeon X1600 from 311MHz to 472MHz when I ran Doom 3 or Quake 4...

Good news: I just used ATITool (under Windows XP Pro) to monitor core and memory speeds on the fly. It's reporting an upclock to 470MHz core clock freq and 635MHz memory clock freq when I launch Quake 4 or GTR 2. When I quit the app, it drops back to 375 and 502.

I can verify rob's clocks and also say that OC'd to 525 / 750Mhz didn't raise the GPU temps at all.

I'm sure it could go a bit higher, but I didn't want to tempt fate :)

interesting. This is best of both worlds b\c you get a cooler comp when ur not gaming.

That's probably Nvidia's PowerMizer technology:

NVIDIA PowerMizer Technology
Intelligent Power for a greener world! As the world is faced with ever increasing demands on its resources, every opportunity to eliminate wasted power can help. NVIDIA® PowerMizer™ technology is an intelligent power management solution that can effectively extend battery life and eliminate wasted power while providing performance on demand.

Powermizer works when the laptop is unplugged and on battery. It doesn't change clocks when it detects a 3d app, it changes clocks when the laptop is unplugged.

When plugged in, I've found that ati always reports max clocks (but it lists the other 3D LP and 2D ones. This appears to not be the case with Ati tool on the macbook pro.

Ok, I guess that is close enough to stock to say that it probably is stock but that it clocks down a little eventually.

Could everyone who post their speeds please mention if they are:

1) .. running any heavy 3D applications while checking clock speed.
2) .. running the MBP from battery or the wall outlet.
3) .. using 128 or 256MB version.
4) .. using 15.4" or 17" MBP.

Did you loaded the machine with something? Say 3dmark06? I doubt temps would go up much when idle even if overclocked. Also of course raising voltage is what cause major temperature increases.

I stress tested it with ATITool 3d View and artifact finder.

1) 3d Apps = 470Mhz Core 635Mhz Memory (x2 = 1270Mhz)
2) it was on the wall outlet
3) 128MB verseion
4) 15"

everything on barefeats is accurate.

But theirs was 256MB version, anyway same results on both 15.4", and probably 17" aswell, we'll see.

Can't someone who already got a 17" MBP check their speeds and tell if they are the same as on the 15.4" or not?
