Actually, other mobile versions of YouTube are stripped down and you can only view "featured" or "popular" or certain categories of content on YouTube.... but with iPhone, it allows you to search for videos and view more specific information.

I used to think that digg users had the worst comments on the web, but YouTube users definitely take the cake. Their comments make me want to drive a nail through my head.

Shame for those of us who would like to see a super portable general purpose OS X machine.
I don't disagree with the numbers, but don't forget that MOST of those iPods are the < $250 Mini/Nano/shuffle devices. Not the higher end ones. Most of those users don't want/can't afford etc... a full sized iPod, and the iPhone is even larger than a 5G iPod.
The MacBook's relative success is a good indication that the iPod has a halo effect, which could also have been extended to other devices, like a less locked down iPhone.
Heck. I carry my 5G around with me all the time and even use it as my PIM, so I will probably get a rev b iPhone, but I can still see the device's limitations, so it's not worth $500 to me for rev a.

Yeah, that was really the point of my comment. This is just final confirmation that the iPhone is not intended to be a "smartphone" and business users will (generally) stay away from the device. (Even though some users might well have one as their personal/weekend phone...)

Really? Youtube?! Why would any one want that on a PDA device? Hey, I'm all Apple and am usually the last one to complain about anything they do, but $499 to $599 to have Youtube as a capability is ludicrous. Seriously Steve, I'd be a little embarrassed for having Google strong-arm you into putting Youtube on that device. I'm flabbergasted. 🙄

You can search on the mobile version of YouTube as well, but usually the results come back with nothing:
"No results for 'family guy'. Only a portion of YouTube videos are available on mobile at this time. We are working hard to bring you more!"
I'm thinking there will be a similar message when searching for "family guy" on the iPhone.

Yeah..I have the latest OS updates and QT updates and the demo is hosed in Firefox 2.0 just like you said and doesn't even show up in Safari!! It just says to download QT!! WTF?? Pretty weak. I think this is the first time I've ever seen something really broken on the Apple site like this. I mean, for an important launch product like this, it's a bad sign.

Look up G4 stuff like 'Spocks Crib' or Adult Swim and you get some great little videos. You have to know where to look. I use Youtube to show videos of my pets to my family. They live in NJ and I am in Georgia and see them, maybe, once a year.

yawn... well this is nice to kill time, i think it would be more functional to have iChat. how can apple over look this feature.
Apple TV, iPhone and YouTube
Well, like all other Apple TV owners, I did the update this morning and I have to say that Apple's implementation of YouTube on the Apple TV is better and cleaner than the actual site. Good stuff. Yes, I too wasted about an hour watching senseless videos (the DC/Marvel Parody of the PC/Apple ads and the Star Wars edition of Robot Chicken).
The quality of the H.264 YouTube videos are excellent, granted I'm watching it on a 1080P Pioneer Elite Plasma, but I was watching it before on a 30" ACD and it never looked this good!
Apple has invested a lot into H.264 and it's beginning to pay off. First YouTube moving over to that format and soon other media sites will follow suit, so that their content can leave the computer screen and go onto the mobile device and the living room.
Now onto the iPhone. People say that this is not a Smart Phone or a business device. Either was the iPod, but I for one replaced my Palm with my iPod years ago. In fact my 40GB iPod died a few weeks ago and I was going on a business trip and I wanted to my calendar and address book and for inclination was to sync my BlueTooth phone with my computer, but guess what, it didn't work (only because Verizon cripples their phones!), then I tried to sync my Palm via BlueTooth and that didn't work either. God, I forgot how spoiled I was by my old trusty 40GB iPod! Yes, for years I relied on syncing my contacts, calendars and notes onto my iPod. A device that was not designed for business use. I can only imagine what the iPhone will do!
Now there is not Flash support today, but come on, if there is a market for it, Apple and Adobe will come up with a creative way to get Flash content running on an iPhone. Maybe not on launch day, but come on, on launch day the iPhone is still better than any other mobile device available!

You can search on the mobile Youtube right now, but you are correct, a lot of the media will not be available immediately.
Unfortunately, the Apple version will be the same way. They aren't going to convert episodes of TV shows to work on the
TV just because it is on YouTube. If anything, it's probably going to cut down on the copyrighted material being thrown around (which isn't a bad thing necessarily).I still see a lot of positives coming out of this. I could see YouTube creating a "PAID" account option to let users post larger files for private use or just offer a full blown pay-per-view service in the near future. I would prefer to just have a streaming option for my iTUNES.
Programmers, will Slingbox be able to create a STREAMING app using AJAX?😀
Apple keeps on additional things that are nice but I won't use, but still makes me want it even more.

3.5"? Seems a little bigger than I'd want to view YouTube content.
And for the love of all that is good and decent... WHY did Apple have to make a product that allows people to EMAIL me YouTube videos while standing in line at the grocery store?!? Please, make the kittens stop!
(I'd just as soon have Flash be optional rather than have no choice--for other sites more than YouTube.)

I'd really like Slingbox support as well... I'm hoping it comes in the not-too-distant future.

The demos don't work, period, on Safari Beta (PC) for me. The video plays on Firefox (but then again Firefox on my MBP (through Boot Camp) is dreadful at rendering any page - in particular fill colours don't appear, pop-up windows are transparent so the text is a mess, and background pictures/textures don't appear.)

Great image on the AppleTV/YouTube Combo, really pleased!
As said above, my curtains don't seal out the daylight, expect much better picture in "real lide situation" (evening viewing of projector/TV Set).
Also, just simple handheld shots, contributing to some blurr.
