Does the unlocked one require a code to activate? If not, how does this prevent people from distributing the unlocked DMG?

If you read the site and the threads you'll know the answer.

Yes it requires a code and to register you enter your email address and username that you registered that code with to unlock it.

It then transmits your personal data stored on your mac to Codeweavers to store so that if you distribute it, they'll hunt you down and castrate you.

Ok I exaggerated about the castrate part.

IMO I don't think running Spore in XOver in OS X is going to help this.

Especially since Spore on OS X is the Windows version running in a wrapper based on WINE, so it's basically the same thing as XOver.

Yep. Actually it's worse if you think about it... [wrapper][wrapper][spore][wrapper][wrapper]

Another level of wrapper was just added, so it won't work as good and the gma950 issue will still be there (meh thinks)

I did read the thread and site, but it is not entirely clear to me. In what capacity is the DMG unlocked if it requires a code?

I was able to download the .dmg and install without a code. At what point is the code required? (Currently, the site says it will take a couple of days to receive code via email).

Size Difference Pro vs Games

Curious that the sizes on my Mac for the DMG are as follows:

crossover-games-7.1.1.dmg = 39665978
crossover-pro-7.1.0.dmg = 37421378

If the Pro version has everything that the Games has plus more, woulldn't it stand to reason that it would be larger, not smaller?

Are you sure?

Thanks for the clarification. I don't really game that much at all, but still downloaded both not knowing the Pro had it included. I guess I will delete the game download edition.

I never knew that.

Let me clarify for you then. I think MS did well with MS versions for Windows of Office.

That is what I'm worrying about. I already downloaded it and it never asked for the serial number I have. When their site is back up I don't need to download it again since I already have it installed. I wonder if you don't have to register it or if you go to their site when it is up they will have a place to register it without having to download it again.

Just to clarify, Codeweavers' server is overloaded with requests for serials and people trying to register accounts with Codeweavers to unlock the trial binaries.

To ease the pressure, they have released fully unlocked binaries for today only. These binaries are not linked to any personal email addy whatsoever, so of course they will be doing the rounds of the warez sites.

So why register? Because further updates of the binaries, which presumably will increase compatibility with whatever is struggling to run now, will be in locked trial version format, which you need your email and password to unlock.

Thanks. Do you think you will be able to register it after downloading it (I downloaded it without using my serial number--it didn't ask for it)? I have the serial number and I will register it when they get their site back up, but I already have it downloaded. I don't want to download it again.

Okay, since this mentions the economy, the randomized ad I saw at the bottom was the attachment enclosed. Here's a link to see the despicable ad they're running (please do not turn this political. I just want people to know and nothing more. I hate when threads get split for dumb reasons like this).

If you don't want to split the thread or hijack the thread why even bring it up?

P.S. Have always been a HUGE fan of codeweavers.

I mentioned it so that people would know, not to start a discussion. If anyone wanted to further the discussion, they could PM me; one person already has, whose name I will not mention here.

But let me get this straight; I downloaded the Games one, not knowing the difference. If I buy Portal, it will install in my Mac without the need for Windows? And it will run fine, correct?

Sorry, it's a game I've been dying to play and yet haven't wanted to spend the $80 to buy a copy of Windows. :p

I feel your pain, I have a stack of windows games I'm dying to play but I didn't have to pay the cash for windows (company MSDN license LOL) but I do NOT want to bootcamp if I can help it.

I've followed crossover for a while. Even though it's not listed (not saying your game is or isn't) doesn't mean it won't work. Give you an example.

My daughter is wanting to play Hello Kitty Online (yah I know don't ask!) and it's NOT on the list. I know this because I've already been there prior to today but her and I were playing with it earlier tonight. How? I found a way to make it work. I had to install it in a win98 bottle and install IE6 so the launcher would run properly. Also I used Crossover Pro and not Crossover Games. Why? I couldn't find IE6 as a download LOL. IE7 wouldn't work, so IE6 was my next choice. I'll get it to work eventually with some tinkering (crossover pro shows the link for ie6 so that solves that problem) but the point I'm making is, Some games just DO NOT work, others work whether codeweavers say so or not.

I got one NOT on the list to work. Just need to diagnose what's causing yours to fail. My issue was an OLE error which that plus I know the launcher displays HTML news told me it was a browser thing (browsers aren't installed by default in xover) so I knew once I installed a browser it just might work. It did and we leveled her char a few times tonight.

If I installed IE6 in Crossover games it probably would have worked, I was under pressure from a 7yr old so I had to think fast.

If you mean the unlocked binary, then no, because it is pre-registered. It will never ask for a serial. Only the normal trial binaries ask for a serial after 30 days. Just register for an account with Codeweavers by the end of November and use your registration on the next update you download.

The Free Codeweavers Software

Looks like offer is over :-(. Glad it was posted on Macrumors.com yesterday, I would have not have known about it otherwise. On a side note love crossover I am using it now and it works seamlessly might even uninstall VMware Fusion.

Works really well on it.

I registered mine last night a little after midnight EST. I'm glad I found out about it. Thanks to those who gave us a heads up.

I have it running now. One question - how do you apply Office updates? My disc is an early Office 2007 edition so I'm a little worried.

When I downloaded my Office 2007 yesterday it asked if I wanted auto updates. I checked yes. I'm sure there is a way for you to check yes on it somewhere on it even if it didn't ask you (sorry I don't know where). If not, just check for updates manually on MS's site periodically.

Well damn, I downloaded the unlocked dmg but failed to grab a serial number due to the server overload. Guess I won't be updating... or I'll just have to purchase a serial in the future if I have fun with this software ;).
