What is the general consensus to the release date of the 2012 Macbook Pro? Also, is it believed that it will have a spot for an Ethernet cable?

I currently am in need for a new computer and cannot decide whether to pull the trigger on a 2011 Macbook Pro, or if it would be worth it to wait for a 2012. If it is released in April, the wait would be worth it for me, if it is June or July, it simply would not. Any opinions?

I seriously doubt Apple would remove the gigabit ethernet port from the MBP line. I currently using mine now and always preferred wired to wireless when docked at the desk. The current gen MacBook Pros scream when it comes to performance.

I'm guessing the next gen MBP will have the latest Intel Ivy Bridge architecture, no optical drive, and retina display. If this is something you would want to wait for then wait it out.

I could be wrong though ;).

I have a feeling they'll just have a thunderbolt port with an adapter that supports many formats, ie ethernet etc. Like a dongle.

But for sure they'll keep USB2.0 in there.

I heard the new name shall be the iPowerMacBook Pro Intel QuadCore2DuoSandy. It will be encased in state of the art white polycarbonate and have a 4:3 ratio display.

Do you guys think I should wait, then? Like I said, I can wait for an April release, but if it is going to be in June or July, that simply would not work.

Dude, NO ONE KNOWS. It might be released in April, it might be released in September. The only thing anyone can say for sure is that for every day you wait, you'll be one day closer to the release date.

If optical drive goes, I go with it, same goes for gigabit ethernet.

Some people still burn an ISO from time to time, or need a physical connection to a network on site to diagnose issues, and don't expect me to carry a dongle or external superdrive to get the job done, I'm sorry.

It was hard enough watching the mini get chopped up.

It's coming out today at 6pm Eastern time with nothing you are hoping for, then there will be masses and masses of whining idiots on the forums and a thread that will become an inferno talking about the "Next" Macbook Pro.

Steve told me in a dream so it has to be true!
