Has anyone noticed that if you fully spec out a regular 15" MBP with the 512GB SSD and 2.7GHz it comes out to $3349. This only has 8GB of RAM as there is no 16GB option.
If you spec a Retina MBP with 512GB, 2.7 and 8GB it is only $3049 and even going up to 16GB leaves it $100 cheaper at $3249
Only if you max the Retina MBP's SSD to 768GB do you finally jump the $3349 of the lower spec up to $3749. But then you are getting double the RAM and 50% more SSD space.
So basically you must have to be really desperate to have either FW, Ethernet, digital audio out or DVD to not go for the Retina over the LegacyMBP.

Is Apple just trying to help kill off the legacy version?
