Just checked and the iPad 2 is supported for the betas!

What do you guys think? I feel like my iPad 2 runs iOS 7 smooth enough that it could handle iOS 8, but what are your ideas? I'm definitely hoping for support!

iPad 2 and iOS 8

Won't happen. Don't get your hopes up. iOS 7 is terrible on the iPad 2 in my experiences. Even the third gen struggles a ton.

Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow the list of devices iOS 8 will support.

I'd say they almost have to, they were selling the iPad 2 brand new on their store until pretty recently and to end support that quickly would look bad.

Really? Only issue I had was fixed with a restart, Control Center was crashing, I have virtually no lag on anything; even Temple Run which lagged on my iPhone 5. I feel like Apple will keep it for a dumbed down iOS 8

I think the iPad 2 has had a great run but its time has come to an end. I don't think it will be able to be stable enough for iOS 8 and possibly multitasking with the amount of ram it has.

My mom has an iPAD 2 running 7.1.1 and it can barely handle Safari without crashing

Wat??? First of all the iPad 3 is way behind the iPad 2 performance wise given the retina display and same CPU, but it still has virtually no lag or performance issues. The iPad 2 should be almost as smooth as butter (with iPad 4 and newer being the butter). Have you updated to iOS 7.1?

Apple replaced 2 with a 4 on their website yeah?

I dont know, maybe we get ios8 but minus a lot of function that would be in newer devices. Multi window on a 512 ram is almost next to impossible.

I'm kind of skeptical that it will run it, but if apple does include the 2 for the iOS8 upgrade it may run like a dog.

Ipad 2 have been doing multi window for a while now jailbroken

But does it run smoothly?

Yes, it runs smoothly but the interface is two full sized iPad apps that are shrunken down. It isn't the best experience.

I think it could run an iOS 8.1 or 8.2 update that adds side-by-side multitasking with an appropriate UI, but the question is if will it perform well.

Yes I think it will but it will be very limited. Most of apples products have 4 years worth of updates and iOS 8 would be the fourth for the ipad 2.

I see the iPad 2 on iOS Dev Center for iOS 8 Beta. So it looks to be supported.

Hmm, I see iPad 2, iPad w/Retina, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini w/retina

Yeah, that's a little vague. When it says "iPad with retina display" do they mean both the iPad 3 and 4? I assume so, but currently the iPad 4 is the only iPad on Apple's site that is called "iPad with retina display".

I wouldn't put it past Apple to screw over iPad 3 owners yet again.

I think the iPad 2 should get the chopping block. The iPad 3 ought to get a diluted version of iOS 8. iPad 4s are on their last full update before being waterdowned. That's the Apple way. Two years of full support, then drown out the device w/ buggy software on purpose.

Problem is, the original mini is a just 2 shrunken down, and it is far too young to get squoze out, so they really do have to keep the 2 alive.

Interesting. I've never had any issue with Safari and iOS 7.1.1. But then, I don't normally open tons of tabs and regularly clear out my cookies and cache.

Anyway, am delighted iOS 8 will be available for the iPad 2. I don't think Apple would allow the update if it turned the iPad 2 into an overstuffed dog. Time will tell, I guess.

Running Beta 1 on my iPad 2, it runs great, especially for being a beta, there is very minimal lag scrolling is great, time will tell how this goes!

Its not vague. Its iPad with Retina.
How did Apple ever screw iPad 3 owners? It was and is a fantastic device.
