I've had a Macbook Air previously so unsure. My new rMBP is running around 53 C with normal web surfing on my lap. It does feel a little warm to touch. Is this normal?

Its warmer then mine but I don't see that overly hot given what people have posted here.

Mine's the 2.6/16/1TB/750M model and runs about 50-55ºC when doing normal stuff :)

That's what mine seems to be running at. A little warm to touch but not burning hands hot. Think I must be used to the air. I think it warmed up because I was installing software updates etc (got up to 80 and above)

That's a goodie. Ok seems I'm running around 53-55 for normal web surfing. Can different places make it warm up? Having it sit on a desk im running 45 but on the bed its higher.

If its sitting on the bed, the cloth or blanket is an insulator, so the heat does not get extracted like on your lap or on the desk. The heat builds up within the laptop. It is recommended that you never use it laying on a bed or pillow as it can get quite hot.

Hmm I do like lying in bed with it sometimes though. Is there something I could put underneath it perhaps?

I've been using it in my bookbook case when on my bed. So definitely better to use a lapdesk?

No, you don't need any of that crap! You don't need to monitor temperatures either. Ever.

If the machine ever gets to the point where it gets too hot it would shut itself down to prevent any damage.

Stop worrying about nonsense and enjoy using your machine.

Ok, I'll only use the case if I'm taking it out of the house. I still feel like its really warm. (Well compared to my MBA).
