Airbus has filed a patent for a new saddle like seat in order to cram more people into planes.

I know Spirit would love this seat because they already treat their passengers like cattle and maybe Ryanair would switch from 737's to A320's for this seat as well. I understand the industry only has a 1% profit margin so any ways to increase revenue/profits is welcome, but this is just ridiculous.

But hey, it might lower the ticket prices even more. That is the only thing people seem to care about these days( but then complain about the service that cheap ticket gets you :rolleyes:).

Filing for a patent and seeing it in the airplane are two different things. I don't believe too many people would be willing spend several hundred dollars for that sort of seating arrangement.

I know and I hope it never comes out to reality. But low cost carriers might be interested in it. Spirit already crams you into their planes with very little legroom. So they might be interested in it.

I have learned to never doubt how low airlines will go to increase profits. Just take a look at PSA and now Envoy Airlines( formerly American Eagle).
 
wow that looks extremely uncomfortable. You couldn't lower the price enough for me to fly like that.
 
I see no safety features there. How do the seatbelts work. What prevents your face from smashing into the head of the person in front of you during a rough landing?
 
While NKS and RYR would love to have this, at least in the USA, this will never happen.

Eight words: Americans with Disabilities Act, Air Carrier Access Act.

This concept is not disabled access friendly, let alone child friendly. If you are taking a child, especially under 2 years old on a flight, they have to be restrained in a child seat, like their car seat. This will never work with that. And this is all by law, not regulations from the carrier.

Won't fly (pun intended) in the US.

Im surprised they havent made the rows the depth of a human, put up a bulk head and make us strap in and stand like on a subway train. That would really pack the people in.
 
How do you even squeeze between two rows of seats saddles? It's hard enough even squeezing between rows of seats as they're currently configured.
 
US Marshals have prisoner transport services, by air. If the program is busy enough, I could see having a few medium passenger aircraft outfitted in such a way to optimize passenger capacity.
 
I don’t see the feed buckets in the illustration. Maybe they just strap to the back of the livestock, er, passenger in front of you.

Easy enough, just leave some “conventional” seating up front :D
 
I wish an airline would open that covers the routes of the other airlines. Which charges 10% to 20% more and focuses on roomier more comfortable seats (especially leg room), good customer service, perhaps one or two additional flight attendants and include meals, internet and TV on flights.

I'm sure many are like me and would be willing to pay a little extra for a pleasant flying experience. But can't afford the insane rates of first class.

JetBlue. I love flying with them. I spend the $35 extra for their extra legroom seats( their regular seats are not bad either). You get to board first so you don't fight with the jerks for bin space since when I fly I usually fly with a carry on only. Free DirectTV as well.

They just introduced their Mint experience for the JFK-LAX route for now on their new A321. $599 each way which gets you adjustable firmness, massaging, and fold flat seats, a meal from a nice restaurant in NYC, organic ice cream from a shop in Brooklyn, and 4 of the seats are suites at no extra charge where you sit alone and have a door for privacy ( just have to book early enough to get them :) ).

At $599 it is a complete bargain compared to $1100-$1500 each way for a competitors first class flight from JFX to LAX.

I can easily see an economy class seat of today being the "first class" seat of tomorrow.

Don't put it past RyanAir; after wanting to get rid of the forward lav to put in more seats, standing seats, porn for IFE, and pay-for-poo (charging to use the lav), don't put it past them at all.

And to make it worse, Spirit wants to be like them.
