So I am restoring a backup from a MBP Retina 2013 (200gb) onto a MBA 2013 (512gb) via my Time Capsule (2013). It is telling me that the restore will take 16 hours...and it's not getting any faster after half an hour.

My MBA and my Time Capsule both have AC Wifi, so the transfer of 200gb file shouldn't take that long....is it because it's transferring/transforming/rebuilding my system from MBP Retina (a different machine) to a MBA?

Will the speed improve later?

Connect all of them via a Gbit LAN, try again and it will speed up.

For what ever reason TM throttles itself so as not to consume all of the bandwidth, i.e., the initial backup is exceedingly so, and any sort of restores are painfully slow.

This was one major reason why I opted for Carbon Copy Cloner, I use CCC for full system restores, and Time Machine for those oh crap moments that I need to easily restore a file or folder.

Theres not much you can do, other then grin and bear it :(
