There's now a warning on the AdwareMedic website and when I tried to install it after downloading I had a message indicating that it was unable to install due to a corrupt file. I deleted the new files as well as the older version that was in my Applications folder, with the intent to start from scratch.

That's when I noticed on the AdwareMedic website that the 'Download' button shows version 1.2, but when I viewed the version history the current version (as of 11/11/14) is v2.1 which looked suspicious, especially with the posted warning.

Is that a typo or is there an alternate we should use for AdwareMedic now?

Thanks!

You are safe to get it from the www.adwaremedic.com or www.thesafemac.com

Current version is 2.1 after update, the warning is relating to many users will be trying to download adwaremedic when they already have adware active on their machines, some adware attempts to defend itself by redirecting the adwaremedic download button.

V1.2 looks to be a typo as there is no 1.2 listed in the version history but the current version is 2.1....

Excellent advice.
OP, also note the following:
ALERT: Some adware has recently been causing clicks on the Download button to redirect to other sites, such as the MacKeeper site. If this happens to you, that is an effect of the adware, and not something that is normal for this site. The adware on your computer is trying to prevent you from downloading AdwareMedic. For some solutions, see What to do if the Download button redirects. If that page redirects, too, copy and paste the following direct download link into your browser's address bar:
