Force closing an app (that won't force close)

This seems to be quite a common problem but I can't seem to find a fix for it online.

The battle.net launcher will not close for love nor money. I think this is the main reason I am unable to shut down my rMBP.

Even if I select force close, nothing.

It doesn't look like Blizzard are going to be fixing this any time soon so is there a more reliable way of force closing a program?

You can use the kill command in the terminal (you'll need the PID, so use top to find that), or from the apple menu, you can initiate the force quit
