i have been offered a G4 Quicksilver 800Mhz for £70

has an issue of sleep - once it sleeps it does not wake , only a restart will get back in again.

standard stuff - 40gb/256mb/cd-rw/ 10.3 Panther

if i take it, i want to add lot's of HDD's to it - 2 x internal (2 x 500GB WD ATA133 7200rpm 16MB Hard Drives) to take it to a 1 TB for my iTunes collection + USB HDD's hanging of the back

so will it do 1TB ? can i add more HDD's to it ? say 4 ?

I plan on adding a Wi-Fi Router to the ethernet port to pump out over my network

any thoughts ? is this a bargain or a lemon

BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN BARGIN !!!!!!!!!!

go for it aye. im not sure if there is a max on the HD space, but you can get around that.

LOL thanks - i will go for it, i think there is a card i can add to it to add more HDD's but not sure what it's called

The ATA controller won't do over 120GB. You'd need to add a fancier one.

Yes thats what you need. I am using one now, and have used, both SIIG and Firmtek cards in my G4's over the years.....but, that Sonnet will also work, just plug & play, nottaproblemo :) But FYI: that card is an older SATA I model, but you should be able to get the faster SATA II version for about the same or just a bit more $$

Just be sure to get some fast, large HDD's to go with it :p

as well as future proofing, should ever decide to move up to a new(er) G4/G5 etc..........

good point .... i'd expect this to last at least 12 - 24 months as a filer server for itunes after which, maybe a G5 Powermac or even a Low end Mac Pro will replace

so can you have more then one card plugged in ?

4 PCI slots are free - so would 2 cards ? be ok any more and i might have a problem with Power
