iOS 6's 'Do Not Disturb' Not Shutting Off Automatically on New Year's Day
![]() Some iOS 6 users who use Apple's scheduled "Do Not Disturb" feature may find that their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch hasn't automatically disabled the feature on New Year's morning. ![]() It's this scheduling feature that appears to be misbehaving on New Year's Day. MacRumors reader Spacesamurai posted about his experience: Quote:
Apple has had other bugs in the past related to New Year's day. In years past, Apple has had issues with alarms not going off into the new year. Fortunately, the "Do Not Disturb" feature does not disable alarms set with Apple's built-in Clock app. Article Link: iOS 6's 'Do Not Disturb' Not Shutting Off Automatically on New Year's Day |

My thought EXACTLY. How do they have an issue with something every single year??? Has no one at Apple ever dealt with a January 1st date on their equpiment.
This actually doesn't surprise me. I've started looking forward to a new mishap every year. Calendars, iCal, Clocks, scheduled events, etc. it has to be something. If something doesn't happen to an Apple device on January 1st, my day isn't quite right. I've come to accept it. As absurd as it is, it's just become the new normal. I turned it off (and back on) in my Notifications section, but turning it off the Do Not Disturb switch in Settings didn't do anything. Looks ok now, I guess. No need to reboot; just toggle. |

Many of my friends in several countries use DND and no one has reported issues so far. And neither me nor my flat mates have had issues.

Year after year and Apple can't seem to figure out how to calendars and clocks to work together.

Why should DND automatically shut off on New Years anyway?

Perhaps part of the code that determines when to deactivate DND checks the year along with the time? Maybe the DND isn't turning off because it isn't finding 2012 in the date - and therefore would explain why it would work if you turn it off manually and then back on - since the 2013's match?
That said, even with any other iOS issues, I refuse to believe that Apple is that sloppy... I hope. |

I'm not 100% convinced its an Apple issue. If you have set time automatically turned on it appears that information comes from your carrier. Could be bad information from their systems in many cases. Not iOS. Had this thought when two of my flat mates who are on Verizon had issues with a Verizon bug that kept making the time something like midnight jan 1, 1969
