On the side I do photography, a lot of photography. I have been a OS X user now since May-ish, but I am still learning the system.

Since most of my most span back a few years the there are tons of photos that have the same file name which is causing a problem now that I purchased a new digital picture frame.

Is there anyway to do a mass file name change? I have a lot of pictures broken down in to folders (events).

I am not comfortable enough to try this yet...

Is there not a way to do it in automator?

EDIT: I searched using Macrumors search option but did not find another thread like this. Needing a solution very quickly I stumbled upon another Macrumors thread using google.

Here it is: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/315485/

Perhaps that will help... I will post my updates when I mess around there first

EDIT 2: Nope still have not clue how to do this... I tried but now I am getting some weird error... I guess I'll just start renaming them one by one... This seems a little ridiculous you can do a mass file name change.

Dang... I thought I found a solution with the change batch change title feature in iPhoto. Still when I drop it over to the SD card it goes by the name of the file not the title of the picture...

I'll try this software. Thanks for this.

You may need more of a 3rd party app. I know in Windows this is quite easy. Just hi-light them all and right clik on one and rename.

Heres one too.

This program works perfectly!! Thank you so much! I feel like I could do this in Automator (as the program seems to work the same) but for some reason I am able to do it better this way.

This works GREAT! (and its free)
It has the ability to append to beginning or end of filename, find and replace, and all sorts of stuff. It even lets you highlight the files in finder and then open the software and select the files that are highlighted.

Tip: For faster searching, disable the feature for looking in folders when you don't need it. It bogs it down even when there are no subfolders for it to look in.

Thanks again!
