Steve Jobs Pitches Cupertino on New Apple Campus

Late last year it was revealed that Apple purchased a 98-acre campus from Hewlett Packard, just up I-280 in Cupertino. Last night, Apple CEO Steve Jobs explained Apple's plans for the space to the Cupertino City Council. Here's what the new 4-story building will look like:

As Steve describes it:
Quote:
It's a pretty amazing building. It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle... It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building... It's pretty cool.
The facility will be 80% landscaping, with most of the parking underground, compared to 20% landscaping with all above ground parking currently. The current campus has 3,700 trees and Apple plans to increase that to more than 6,000 trees, including "some apricot orchards."

Apple also plans to build its own energy generation facility using natural gas, with the electricity grid as a backup.

That looks freaking amazing. Wonder what the price tag is for a place like that...

That design looks awesome. SJ in his signature black turtleneck. It does sound like a bit weak though.

They really are trying to make it look like the Mothership. That looks pretty sweet.

I love that Steve is still wearing his black turtle neck and jeans... even presenting to the local council.

The amount of open land in this design is amazing.

Natural gas? Go with Solar even better for the environment at only 4x the cost.

Also Sterling Archer said he wants his turtle neck back.

So is this going to replace the existing campus, the old one goes up for sale, or just supplement it, by being the new headquarters with the old one repurposed as a satellite campus?

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that they're even building an underground, high-speed subway to connect the two campuses together.

Incredible.

EDIT: Found the source (Cult of Mac).

Nice try, City Councilor

Good luck trying to negotiate with Steve Jobs if you're in Cupertino. I mean, shouldn't he have stacked the city council by now with all iDrones? How much of the city's population is Apple employees?

Yes

Good for Apple and especially Jobs, I think they deserve a new campus. Great to see him so healthy too!

Was the council's request for free wifi in jest, or are they retarded?

I love how Steve knows he's the smartest person in the room as he assures the city councilman that he has no need for using their third-rate touchscreen drawing technology.

They should do a combination of solutions.

All that roof space would be good for the solar panels and all that land would be good for a few windmill generators as well.

Is it all one giant window stretching all the way around the building?

Apple applying their tech design prowess to architecture. In a big way.

Love it.
