If you only want to see threads that apply to a certain device, you can use the "Find threads with prefix" feature in advanced search when you're in the iOS Hacks forum.

Im willing to bet that you will begin to see less Android threads created with this new setup.
As much as many will try and deny it, a lot of the posts that were created in the iPhone forum were to try and wind people up and try and boast some sort of superiority over the massively successful iPhone. Even many that at first appeared to be sincere. You only had to read further into the thread to see the true motives of the post.
Now that happy iPhone owners will no longer have to read such rubbish it will dwindle fast. Lets be honest, with the arrival of the new iPhone, thats probably a good thing.

I think you'll see an ebb and flow. Right now with google announcing the Nexus 7, and Jelly Bean there's lots of activity. Once iOS6/iPhone 5 hits the streets, the iPhone forum will get wicked busy and the iOS alternative forum may quiet down

I wouldn't confuse posting (activity) with interest. We all know that trolls talk more than they listen.
Of the 13,322 people on the forums right now, only 25 are looking in the "Alternatives" section.
The trend for the Alternatives section to be almost devoid of readers has held up for days now.

Personally I think the fun has been taken out of the trolling. Who would want to troll in a sub forum when its missing its target audience? 😀

I often find such posts to be more annoying than actual trolls. Especially when people post it multiple times in the same thread:
1. "Why are you posting this in MacRumors?"
2. "Why are you still here? Go back to your cave droid"
3. "Why aren't mods doing anything?"
At that point, I find more justification to punish that poster instead of the one who started the Android talk. The ban button was just one click away... 😉

This assumes that people are going to correctly prefix their posts. A laughable assumption, in my opinion.
And if you will notice, most of my comments were about things that had nothing to do with my own posting or viewing behavior. You do not at all address the fact that advice given by people who know only the iPad can be very detrimental to people who have iPhones, especially software unlocked ones.

Bravo mods. A line has been drawn and the flow is better for it. A place for everything and everything in its place. It might create more effort up front, but the long term payoff for all members will be enormous. The community needed structure and you have provided it. Thanks for addressing this issue.

Just come from the iphone forums and cant help but be impressed at how tidy it is in there now with people asking sensible questions about using their phone abroad etc.
Maybe one day if I ever decide to go back to an Android device I'll dip into the sub forum that you kindly created for our guests, after all MacRumors was becoming THE place for Android info lol
As you both indirectly point out, members do have some responsibility for how the forums work. 😉 How members word thread titles and how they use the tools available to them (prefixes) make a big difference to their fellow members.

Which resulted from the evidence being shown that the iPhone would have a taller screen and accelerated when iOS6 was shown off.
People complained when iOS4 came out, and when iOS5 came out, but nowhere near the extent after iOS6 was shown to the public following the leaked casings. It only got out of hand after those 2 developments.
iPhone users weren't just making "Android threads", they were making "Why the hell is the iPhone screen taller" threads and "iOS6 is bad in such and such a way" threads and "The new design isn't different enough" threads.
