Too much $$$

Too much of a premium over the current model. I don't see it replacing the low end 13" MBP -- Retina display or no, that kind of price jump (raising the lowest end MBP by $500) seems like it would be a nonstarter for people shopping on that end of the price spectrum.

yeah that lost my interest. I am sure they will sell but the price point will need to come down a bit before it hits the popularity of the normal 13" pro. I would still rather have better battery life than a retina display, the display on the air is fine so up it to that resolution

I hardly ever see a MBA on my campus. The lack of a CD drive and Ethernet port are likely the reasons why.

It's crazy to think that PC manufacturers haven't done their own high resolution screen notebooks. If I were a rich Chinese elite, I'd manufacture my own copycat retina MBP and sell it for $500 less.

COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH!!!! HO! That can't be right.

EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize the 2.9GHz model was $1500. Guess that's about right. Having dropped 4K on a Pro I don't know why I was so surprised.

Wow, that pricing is extreme for a 13" computer. If people are happy buying the 1200*800 MacBook Pro which is terrible resolution for 2012, I cant imagine them paying $1,699 for this computer. I guess the college kids facebook pages can be high res at least ha

Waiting to see the final specs, but if it is just the MBP 13 (same CPU/GPU) in a retina make over, it won't be worth the premium for me. The rMBP gives up too much.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I needed either of those on campus all four years of school.

And honestly I don't think an Intel 4000 won't be able to handle this, since it can barley handle the 15-inch.

Yawn.
Are you guys really that ignorant?

Where in the article does it discuss the specs? You know the pics in the article are of the current models, right?

I will never buy these retina MBP for awe/jaw dropping prices!!!

Me too, but there's still a lot of students who say omg no CD drive!?!?! I can't live without it not realizing how infrequently they use it.

Still no discrete graphics rumors?

Soooo, just to be clear. 2000 clams for a laptop with no discrete graphics...
Talk about taking a piss on the consumers, eh?

Nice one..

Although i'm happy with my 15-inch for this reason alone.

$2,000 seems extreme no discrete, although maybie with a smaller screen it may not need it. Just a lower price tag.

SSDs prices fallen down heavily

the TLC based 840 starts at $199 and older 830 256GB is going for $150.

no need to talk about the RAM, 2 x8GB going for $60, i am not sure if the L DDR3 is expensive or not.

folks, do not buy into this non - upgradeable MBPs... unless you have lots and lots of $$$

This is how apple makes its money, obviously more people are gonna buy a 13 rather then a 15 so why not mark the price higher.

With that said I'm still waiting for Haswell before I even think about a new comp to replace my Late 2006 C2D black MacBook, damn that thing has been so good to me. I also hate the look of the silver (I know, that's a stupid reason not to buy a comp for aesthetic reasons)

Or in my business.
TB adapter if you must have ethernet.
and DVD drives are a waste of space.

MBA is the best portable apple makes IMO.

what a waste.

Only way these prices ever drop is if people don't buy them.

Can build an outstanding PC with all the bells and whistles that blow these models out the water.

Prices are to insane.

Yeah, I dont think thats the reason. The MBA used to be priced higher than the MBP. I think that was the primary reason as well as the lower student discount ($50). Slowly students will transition to the Air because its way lighter and much more portable and the speed and functionality is almost equivalent. And now they're also priced the same.

Why so surprised?

Apple has never had cheap products, why are there so many posts bitching about price?
