It is an early 2011. I'm going to be relieved if it gets here in 1 piece. It will be shipped insured but you never know.

Read carefully what it says on the configuration page and expand the AppleCare box - they make it sound like you need to buy AppleCare for £60, but that's only telephone support. On the picture, it shows repair support for 3 years and that's what you get for free.

You might need to order from a computer on campus to get that (although you can copy the link to your unis apple store and use that link from home).

I am in the same situation, I think I will cancel the £48 apple plan (HE disc) when I receive my 13" rMBP tomorrow (currently not eligible for return on order via online). Thanks for letting us know!

For some reason they only do this in the UK; not in other EU countries (like Germany, for instance).

The UK HE prices also seem lower. I'm ordering my 15" RMBP 2.6/16/256 from the UK online store and getting it resent to me in Germany. Saving like €500 overall

You might find that you're missing the thumbnail previews if you come from Windows 7. To fix that, get HyperDock. It's really really worth it. TotalFinder is a great addition too. It enables Cut and Paste ind Finder and grouping of folders at the top in list view.

smart utility shows:
-power in hours 51
-power cycle count 794
-powe off retract count 745

Is it realy new or used ?
everything was packed like new

Sounds like refurbished/Had a problem and they fixed it. Return it and get a new one.

Just ordered a refurb baseline 2012 MBP 15" for $1529. Will be selling my 2011 13" MBP on ebay in a few days. Also picked up 8gigs of RAM and a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD plus a Data Doubler from OWC for the stock hard drive. OWC also offered Parallels 8 for half off as a bundle offer with my order so I can try out Windows 8 and play some games.

Real excited for this purchase as this is my first 15" MBP. Finally have a real computer to do some more intensive tasks.

Nice! Seems like you've got yourself a really good deal. I have the base 2012 15" MBP and it's a great machine. On a side note though I hope you don't intend on playing games through Parallels as the performance will be unplayable. Use bootcamp for games.

Just ordered my 15" rMBP Went for the 2.6Ghz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD

Really looking forward to getting it now, during the order process it said 1-3 Business days but its given me an estimated Delivery date of 20th November, hmmm lol - Hopefully ill get an email on Monday saying its been dispatched!

I am a little worried though as I'm currently on a 13" MacBook Air which is obviously a lot smaller and lighter, but I'm hoping the powerhouse will out weigh (No pun intended ) the weight & size.

I have a rider with USAA on my renters insurance to specifically cover accidental damage to my computers. Think it's like $60/year for $3000 in coverage. Also covers the iPad too

Glad to get it because as a college student portability was a must.

Look it towards the air or the 15inch rmbp and decided on this instead.

Just ordered a 2012 15" i7 MBP. I'm so excited. This will be my 2nd MBP but I've had a 27" iMac for the last 2 years, which I loved but I just really missed the MBP. It should arrive on Saturday. Already ordering 16GB of RAM to upgrade and will upgrade the HDD at some point too.

I've been using an early 2010 17"MBP with the 2.66 i7 dual core processor for over 2 years now and had my eye on the rMBP since release this year. The price was just a bit too rich for my blood as I wanted the 512Gb drive.

I was surfing the web tonight and decided to just check pricing on Amazon and low and behold, they had the 15" rMBP 2.6/8/512 for $2409! I did a double take. The base 15" rMBP was at the standard $2199. So for a little more than $200, you got the faster processor ($100 option if you customized it at Apple) and an extra 256Gb of storage! Plus no sales tax and I will get 3% back with my Amazon VISA for a grand total of $2337.

I had debated this exact setup back in August when we had our tax free holiday here in MA. I would have been able to pick it up for $2599 via the Education store with a $100 Apple itunes Back to School gift card. Thank goodness I held off.

I hope that it is OK to talk a little bit about pricing here. I am posting to help other get the same deal if they were in the same boat as me and were sitting on the fence. Good luck guys! Here's hoping for a Samsung screen!

I got my first Mac yesterday!!! I have been a long time PC user and decided to make the switch. I have had many other apple products in the past, and after reading this great forum, I knew a Mac would be my next computer!!

I considered the MacBook Air, but I liked the storage space/for price ratio of the Pro.

Getting a very gently used base mid-2012 MBP tomorrow for $750. Thoroughly tested it out today (well, everything but the TB port) and it's flawless except for the battery which has already dropped to about 90%. I was going to get a 13" MBA but I honestly couldn't pass up this deal. I will probably hang on to it until the MBA refresh next summer. In any case, it's going to be nice to have an upgrade over my CD MacBook which is pleading to be euthanized at the moment.

I debated the BTO option as well for the 16GB of RAM. But I usually only run Safari with a few windows open and Adobe Lightroom only and it only takes up about 5 GB of RAM on my MacPro so I will be OK. I don't do any Windows VM so I should be fine. I am sure I will itch to upgrade in another 2-3 years at which point 16GB should be standard.
