I've wondered why app games are so cheap, also. I remember paying $40 each for Atari cartridges and Apple II games in 1980.

I bought the PC version some years back. I think there was some issue with the specs of my graphics card or something however I couldn't get full screen to happen so it wasn't so nice to play.
![]() What was fascinating about this game back in the day was the animated graphics, something we'd (or I at least) not seen in other games. And the fact that your moves could alter how the graphics played out. I'm probably not explaining this too well, but it was like watching a cartoon where you controlled the scenes. I might give the Mac version a go.

I remember this game! It was fun to watch... but I don't think I want to spend ten bucks to relive it.

I used to be able to complete this game. My friends would sometimes pay for me to play so they could see the ending. LOL Good times!! And lots of quarters!!!

I remember the game. It was so expensive and so short that I think I only played it once or twice. For a quarter I could play pac man or qbert or later r-type for 10 minutes. This was too expensive.

I first saw this game on the old show "Thats Incredible!" that was on ABC. (Speaking of which I miss that show) Soon after, one of these games was freshly established at the Roller Ring. I use to pop in my quarters, drool on the joystick, then walk away crying because it was game over. I was too fascinated by the cartoons to react properly to the commands.
I use to spend 5$-10$ every weekend. It is why I have no problem with these game apps only being .99$-9.99$. Even an older game title released like "Sid Meiers RAILROADS!" is worth 29.99$. "Thats Incredible" for those that have no clue http://youtu.be/zFXtb9jBaBM

$0.99 cents + $200-$400 for the phone + $2,000 for the contract. No child I knew had anything like that when I was a kid. Kids today are spoiled rotten and their parents are too ignorant to even realize it.

(i wonder if if i can get my wife to wear my class ring on a chain too...)

You realize that you've got the "adult's view" at this point right -- kids don't have iPhones unless their parents buy them (which = free to them), instead they have iPod Touch... which also their parents are probably buying for them as well (just like they'd buy game consoles back then too)

Atari Greatest Hits includes Tempest. Those are both in the AppStore. And both work with iCade devices.

Yet it amazes me how at the time these games which were panned for being all looks and no gameplay by critics and game players at the time, whichlets face it they still are and yet now however people are referring to them as 'classics'.... That's like calling The Spice Girls album a 'classic' ..... Style over substance, and despite its age that has never changed. At least is better than the Amiga port where you would have to frantically swap disk every few seconds adding to the already tedius and repetitious cartoon...

Of course. One is the original, one is a cheesy knockoff.

Man I sure pumped a lot of quarters into that game back in the day. Never could get the hang of it. Downloaded it to my phone a few months ago and beat it in a couple hours. either I'm a better gamer or the game is easier than I remember...
