Apple better not be hiring the people who designed those awful graphing calculators I had to use through high school.

TI makes a lot more than just calculators. They invented DLP for example.
I used to love thumbing through the TI catalogs in college. |

Apple's assembling quite a pool of talented engineers from a variety of sources.
If we thought the last 5 years was a revelation in technology the next 5 will likely outdo it easily. |

If we think the next 5 years is going to be a revelation in technology the next 5 after that will likely outdo it easily.

Programmers in Israel are super smart. Very smart of Apple to go there. The first cell phone was made there!

Since this goes under the R&D budget and has preferred tax treatment in all operative countries, this is a low cost move. The two technologies with the highest multiple payback rate are software and chips. Apple is doubling down on both.

Good move Apple. Intel brains are also there. They can exchange ideas there in coffee shops and sue each other here.

TI's calculators are perfectly fine. Sure, they should add more RAM and ROM and lower the price but beyond that, they're perfect. People like to complain about the screen or its lack of wifi for some reason, but at the end of the day, it's meant to be used in a classroom. The low res black and white screen gives it its immense battery life and the lack of wifi is good because students could use it to cheat.

What are you talking about? They were great. They are calculators. What was it that you think they are so bad? If your answer is lack of wifi, more memory, bigger screen then don't bother to answer, it's a calculator...

The TI-89 was and still is a beast in the field of graphing calculators.

You are correct: "officially" the first cell phones were made in the US, but unofficially, the work was done in Israel (Motorola-Israel) and the first test calls on a "regular" basis were made there. But, yes, "officially" the US was first. The US is generally first in everything.

How about giving TI some competition in the graphing calculator industry? They have a true monopoly there... It's easy to see it when people are buying 90s hardware at 90s hardware prices with 80s processors/screens in 2012.
