Easy...personal experience:
1) I have had no issues with Apple Maps
2) Google maps gave me issues in DC while Apple Maps (beta) didn't
3) I like Apple Maps UI better.

Easy...personal experience:

sweet thats awesome, it looks better. that is highly subjective.. what isn't subjective is the fact that google maps is actually magnitudes more accurate, has traffic routing, has millions of public transportation data points and routing, its considerably faster than apple maps, has street view, has indoor street view, etc..
personally i'd rather get to where i'm going quickly, safely, and reliably but hey when you take twice as long to get to where you're going using the apple maps app, at least you'll have something pretty to look at.

Never used tomtom, but It funny that so many people from the same area claim apple maps is fine.
Again I guess it is personal experience.
that sidebar icon is for larger transit areas like NYC/Chicago apparently...
click the directions icon and switch to the mass transit/bus icon, see if that works for you...

So when you spin around, the streetview picture rotates? I have a 5 and it doesn't seem to do anything when I spin around (other than make me look foolish).

I have been periodically reporting the house numbers on my entire street (20 houses) is wrong since The first Google Maps beta on the Internet only. Houses were built in 2001. Still wrong.

In-Car Bluetooth Better than Apple Maps
I was pleased to find out that the voice directions through Google Maps actually come through my hands-free car connection, whereas Siri does not. I can ask Siri a question through the hands free, and the response comes through the car speakers, but the turn-by-turn directions don't, they come through the phone speaker.
Apple maps still has the advantage of showing the map on the lock screen and announcing street names.
My biggest complaint with Apple maps was the lack of streetview.

You are assuming Google would agree to such a deal. What if inking the deal requires Apple to give Google access to your personal data?

You dont need a Google account. It's been stated many times. People seem to be disregarding the existence of that huge 'SKIP' button in the top right of the login screen.
I downloaded and installed Google Maps on my iphone 5 today and I'm experiencing something that makes it virtually unusable for me. Whenever the app tells me to make a turn, it sends the command to my car's speakers via bluetooth. That's great and all but the problem is that by the time the command is sent to the speakers, I miss like 95% of the command. For example, if the command is "Turn right ahead onto Main Street", all I hear is "Street".
I guess what's happening is that the app is announcing the command but the audio is getting lost during the process of being sent to my car's speakers. It's useless to the point where I actually had to turn off the voice portion of the app. Kind of defeats the purpose.
Anyone else experiencing this?

So i didn't feel like reading through all 600+ comments right now but I'll say this:
If one of the major sticking points was turn-by-turn, and Google is now including it for free in their app, what does that tell you about the value they put on iOS users' data....
Like I've said all along. Google wanted this partnership as much as/if not more than Apple. Apple called their bluff (Google wanting more control over data/more money for features like turn-by-turn and the smoother vector system) and now Google comes back and gives it all away for free just so they get some of the users back....
To bad Apple Maps wasn't flawless when it was released....would've killed Google I bet. Ahh well, I'll continue using Apple Maps as it hasn't done me wrong yet and is integrated into all the other apps/systems on my phone.

I find that Apple maps is much better as it appears on the lock screen with a map and directions. Google only shows a text message, but makes no indication of how far the next turn is. You have to unlock the iphone to get that info. Very inconvenient. And I got one instruction that just said "Turn left" Not much use!

Careful with the "magnitudes more accurate"....we're talking about maps of the entire world. Some cities and POIs may be misplaced, but that's relatively small compared to the entire planet.....
n00b question: how does one go into Street View? I can't seem to find it anywhere...😕 (iPhone 5 here)

Apple refused to make minor concessions to Google for turn-by-turn.
Apple said "give us free turn-by-turn". Google said "sure, if we add a little branding to the service".
It's the position that the market has put Apple in - Apple need to point their heels to the ceiling and accept it.
That's a safe bet, since the servers have been struggling with the load since it was announced!

As a non-US user, I think of Apple Maps as a kick in the teeth to all non-US users. I don't know the motivations behind all this but what I do see is a p**s poor UK maps app and a damn fine one.
I wouldn't say it's a way at getting customers back on side, I think of it as a way of getting working maps for other countries.

I know it won't happen, but it'd be nice if we'd be able to choose our default Maps provider in iOS' settings. Alternatively I'd be happy if Apple Maps was killed off now a clearly better app has turned up, and that used to be the default app.
