Batman: Arkham City and The Witcher 2 Arrive in Mac App Store
![]() Two hit games arrived for Mac today in Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition and are now available in the Mac App Store. After being announced for Mac in October, Feral Interactive has brought Arkham City to Mac a year after its release on consoles and a year after the predecessor Arkham Asylum was released in the Mac App Store. ![]() Quote:
The other big release is The Witcher 2 which, unlike Arkham City, comes from original developer CD Projeckt RED and is on sale right now for $19.99 [App Store Link]. It arrives eight months after arriving on Xbox 360 and a year and a half after it was released on PC. ![]() Quote:

Sure I'm gonna get a copy of this when I can get a console version for 15 bucks. AC is an awesome game though...

Just a clarification: Witcher 2 has been out for the Mac for months now. Today is just its MAS debut.

Call me pedantic, but spec requirement is technically possible yet not plausible. Surely not for Mac.
Which Mac that have Core 2 Duo AND Geforce 650M or even Radeon 5770? Any Mac with C2D wouldn't have enough GPU power to run those games, and any Mac with 650M or stronger already on Core i5 or i7. Confusing, no? While on PC it's still possible to pair C2D with geforce 680. |

A bit late, while both are good games, they're both bargain bin games.

I guess, with this new found knowledge, I may never buy a game at launch again... Why pay $60 (which is too expensive, whatever happened to $50 at launch?) when you can wait a year and pay $30? |

As far as Mac ports go, it's actually a very good deal. $40, not $50, and it's the GOTY version so you get everything. The PC GOTY version is $30 on Steam, so it's not that much more (granted, that same version will be discounted to $14 or less during the Winter sale...)
Unfortunately it's pretty much par for the course that Mac ports arrive when the PC version is in the bargain bin. Last edited by Cougarcat; Dec 13, 2012 at 11:06 PM. |

As an FYI I ran The Witcher 2 on my Windows partition on my 17-inch MacBook Pro with an i7 processor and Geforce GT 330M. It ran - it wasn't pretty, but it was playable. However, I get the impression that the OS X engine isn't quite as optimized (originally a DirectX game) and the drivers are likewise not quite optimized, so I'm not convinced it would work on my Mac side (I haven't tried even though I can download either version from GOG). I also only have Snow Leopard still. ---------- Quote:

Is it a native port or just a skin wrap?

Batman AC will be native as it was ported by Feral... Don't know about the other though (?)
Can't wait to play AC, have been waiting for the Mac version, thanks Feral! Though I'm almost 100% done on AA so will have to try and finish that first otherwise ill never go back :\ |

Witcher 2 seems to be native, there are no Cider or Wine files inside the bundle.

YESSSS. More support for Mac gaming.
![]() Will purchase Witcher 2 this weekend. Now can we also get the first Witcher on the MAS too? ![]() Still have to play through Arkham Asylum first so I can hold out for a price drop on Arkham city later, but I'm definitely happy to see both Arkham games on the Mac now.

If you're talkin about 6 core MP and beyond then yes.
But a quad MP? It's not reallty that fast, both CPU and GPU has been crapped out by top end 27" iMac for some time now. Classic reason .. Top end iMac costs $2300 or so for upgraded CPU and GPU, 27" display included. while a new quad MP costs what? $2500 for a West"mere" Xeon and puny Radeon 5770? And it doesn't even have any display included. I find it really hard to justify the purchase, even if I am a blinded Apple fan. |

Wonder how regional restrictions figure into this. The Witcher 2 in Australia could not achieve an MA15+ rating without being modified (as trivial as the modification was). If someone in Australia buys W2 from MAS, will they get the same version as everyone else?

The Witcher 2 runs about the same in Mac OS 10.8 and Windows 7 on my Mac Pro. Seems like a decent port. Getting the game in the MAS is a bad deal though, on gog.com you get both the Mac and Windows version completely drm free plus a bunch of other goodies (soundtrack, wallpapers, making-of videos, etc.).

Game companies need to stop selling the rights to the Mac versions to porting companies like feral. Instead they should pay them a large sum to port it and then release it themselves. This would allow the game to show up in steam and the people who already bought the game for pc in steam would already have a Mac copy. But because feral would lose tons of money that way since they don't get any money from pc versions, the Mac version cannot go on steam. It's a shame.

I'm hesitant to get the AC, since AA choked on my mini at native res.

Yeah, both games are ~20.00 in Canada already. Hard to justify full retail price when it's already been discounted for console. ---------- Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are amazing games. A bit of RPG, stealth, action, and heavy story mixed in. You won't be disappointed! But to play AA/AC you absolutely need a game pad (or console). |

If those AC requirements are accurate, they're lower than the PC ones. How is that possible?
