Storage management: Find out what Other is:

Problem : You can't see what files are included in other are when looking at system storage.

My Macbook air holds 128 gb so as you can imagine it fills up pretty fast. Recently I tried to download borderlands but I didn't have enough space. I checked my system storage and my computer was completely filled up and about 2/3 of my storage was other. I did some research and I found this great free app that lets you view the size of all your mac files(Just search Disk Inventory X). The largest file i had on my computer was steam with 45 gb and it was being showed as other. I deleted Steam and now I have 45 gb of free space . I'll get steam again when I upgrade my storage.

Reason for post: I thought since I was having this problem and solved it that some of you might be experiencing similar problems with storage management.

thankyou gcans for taking the time to tell this forum about this, i for one appreciate it.

i used the app you kindly directed me to and found that the biggest storage hog i had was the sleepimage file it was taking up around 10GB of space so i trashed it and immediately gained the 10GB back.

i researched this file and found this;
