Random Black Screens

This is interesting since I have the same problem, but on a 2011 Mini server Quad. It's connected to a 24" ACD using the TB port on the Mini and I have the exact same symptoms - blackouts a couple of times a day for a couple of seconds and I have had the snowy screen once or twice too. It's great that the 2012 guys are getting a fix, but I guess I can forget about it for the 2011? This does not happen when the ACD is connected to a 2009 MBP, a 2011 MBA or a 2012 rMBP.

Anyone got a problem like this with a 2012 i7 2tb Server with bumped RAM to 16gb ( Crucial ) ? Playing back a movie in iTunes and trying to view in Screensharing on Macbook Pro 2010 produces the attached view .

Airplay works fine .

My black screen and white snow issues have been fixed with the EFI update. I have been running for a week now on HDMI again and haven't had any issues.

If you're using USB->DVI adapters then you are completely bypassing the Mini's graphics hardware. So there might be some issues with OS X itself choosing what to display but in theory it should behave exactly the same on any Mac. I don't know why it wouldn't but 99.9% sure it has nothing to do with the Mini's graphics capabilities in particular.

Although the screen dropouts are gone I still get gray snow when recover from sleep...

Do we need a new thread for "now that stage one is fixed -- what are the remaining issues"

Fair enough, and that makes sense. But it worked nearly flawlessly on my 2010 27" iMac with SL, but is quite cantankerous on the MM with ML.

So it's gotta be the interaction with ML...

I've always peronsally just bought the cheapest HDMI cables available, but I did see last month a HDMI cable giving a friend problems with their Blu-Ray player, and changing HDMI cables fixed it. But their problem cable was a $$$ Monster one .

Have you try it when recover from sleep ?
Most of time , i got gray snow when recover from sleep.

Sounds like HDMI handshake issue. What happens if you put it to sleep again and wake again? Should reestablish.

Comes back fine from both display sleep and computer sleep. Thank you for reminding me, as I had turned both off. Snow and black screen free still!

snowy screen occurs (in most cases) and it gets right after about 10 seconds.

You can try a few more times waking it after no input signals to the display.

Brand new Mac Mini late 2012 using an older HP monitor and the included HDMI to DVI- Waking from sleep causes static screen for anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds. Eventually, it will wake up though. Called Applecare and the level 2 tech says it's the monitor of course. Switched to a new model monitor and no immediate issues waking up however this hasn't been tested for a long period of time.

Assumed that they had fixed this but I guess not.

Ha. I had a similar issue. I was using a 23" Apple Cinema Display HD and had an Apple Care rep tell me the new video cards, like the HD 4000, were too powerful for that monitor. Um...sure. Same guy also said shooting RAW still is overkill, unless I'm a professional. What a jerk.

Let's face it. The issue is not fixed if it doesn't work with all monitors and televisions. I'm only using the HP monitor temporariliy and like I said, the actual AOC monitors that we're moving the system to, they didn't initially have the problem, but haven't been tested for any length of time.

The video quality did look a TON better on the AOC's than the HP but again, that is a newer and higher res monitor.

for the mac mini 2012 wi-fi issue (the Mac OS X 10.8.2 migrated from my previous iMac) - apple care guy told me to use wired connection!!!

there is a merit to that (because i live in a highly dense apartment with lots of wifi connections interfering) but asking to use wired connection - NUTS - what is the point of apple removing all component going wireless

Simple the older model (not the dual band) airport express and new mac mini and iPad 4(s) and iPhone 5s do not work well.

Well older routers use the 2.4ghz band which is usually congested. So maybe moving to a dual band router would help that way you can use 5Ghz. Less people might be using that around you.

Got it, agreed. have to spend another $100 the airport express. might be worth it since I have the iPad 4 and mini. (but not iPhone 5 yet).

Connected to Dell 27" Ultra-Sharp via Mini DP to Duel Link DVI Adaptor

1. No Blank Screens (less than 4 hours up time so far)
2. WHITE SNOW on sleep wake-up (I have since disabled sleep altogether and now run nice screen saver)

Other interesting snippets:

1. WoW gets around 28-30 fps running 2560x1440 using low graphics - playable
2. SC2 playable at min settings @ 2560x1440
3. D3 not playable(<20 fps) @ 2560x1440, just playable at half this res min everything.

Make SURE you call Applecare and let them know. They'll never fix it until they have a bunch of documented problems about the white snow on wake.

i'm new to the mac. mine doesn't have color (b&w) for a few seconds after resume, is this the same white snow you guys are talking about?
