Apple's Rumored iWatch as an 'Even More Personal Personal Computer'

They all look freaky. although the iPhone one looks kinda ok. As for the maps one... i may need a stronger prescription ..

But from a privacy type view... no way.... i'd rather keep my normal watch any day.

FYI. this is exactly the same reason i refuse to get the fitbit...
 
Great, another iDevice rumor to throw on the front page while the desktop Mac is left in the dust. God I miss the pre-iPhone days.
 
Personally I was hoping the iShoe would come out first.

It shouldn't be too tricky. I'm wearing a solid bracelet at the moment and I just tried "swiping" my finger up and down it and it wasn't a difficult manoeuvre. However, I agree with your other points 🙂

I don't care what people say about it and obviously there is no way to see what it would look like yet but I would so buy one so quick i don't care if it was $500 id still get it!! how sleek!

sounds a lot like pocket watches. you know what put those out of popular use? wrist watches -- why dig into your pocket when you can flick your wrist?

personal computing isnt the same use case, but theres something to be said for the possibilities. see Kickstarter's Pebble campaign. $4MM raised, was it?

For Samsung most cloud services are done by someone else
iCloud is ok but not a big deal

Samsung is definitely more on to it than Microsoft, but I do like the "tiles" thing on their phones "home page" or whatever you call it. Would like something like that in iOS.

First off the level of hatred towards the concept of an iWatch is pretty indicative of the fact that it would actually be a useful device...if executed properly.

Battery life would probably be the biggest issue in bringing this to market and imho to make it successful they will have to incorporate and combine solar and kinetic back-up power recharging into it (as they do in many high end watches today).

I know a lot of younger people that don't wear watches so I would agree with those that have made similar statements. However, those folks are also missing the point. The younger crowd that doesn't wear watches will wear this device because it's main purpose is to link to their other devices and because its "cool". In fact, such a device, could save / revolutionize the watch industry.

As to why "adults" who wear watches would want this I can think of several reasons. I often carry my iphone in my winter jacket pocket and have trouble hearing and/or feeling the vibration when a call / text comes in. Even if I do hear it I spend several seconds fumbling to get it out of the pocket etc. A watch on my wrist would alleviate that issue.

I'm also often in noisy public spaces and don't want to leave my phone out on the table / bar and/or hold it all the time. Once again, safe and secure in my pocket with a iWatch securely strapped to my wrist and vibrating / ringing/ lighting up means I never miss another important call/text/email or lose my iphone because I left it out on the bar.

There are so many potential advantages to this product that even a luddite like me can appreciate I'm frankly quite surprised at the vehement negative reaction many are having.
 
Wow, idk why people are hating so hard on this. 6th/7th gen iPod Nano watches were pretty awesome in themselves, and they weren't even designed for it. This is the band I use (not my picture, obviously):

One with curved glass and bluetooth would be super epic. I can't wait and these mockups in the OP are absolutely horrid. Apple will do something pretty snazzy, I believe it.

EDIT - Also, those concerned with battery life, I go weeks without charging my nano-watch. I realize it doesn't have bluetooth always on, but a future product could easily last a day or two before recharging.
 
If this is how Apple are going to integrate tap-to-pay into their eco-system I wouldn't care what else the watch can do, I'd get one.

Ahhh render fail. They're going to have a hard time convincing me to get one. The days of wanting every single Apple product just because it's an Apple product are over in light of recent competition and too many unnecessary 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th devices.

I can imagine this product having a music player and possibly web enabled. That would be pretty neat but will have to be so big in order to be useful at web stuff that it will be too clunky as a watch. We'll have to see what they come up with first.

Congratulations. You'll be one of the 68k that pre-orders this, has to recharge it every other day, and keeps telling yourself (and everyone else) that you're a man. My wife tells me that she's keeping her Rolex, as tempting as this "wrist computer" sounds.

I suppose there will be some market for this among the prepubescent, college crowd, those who don't work in professional environments, and computer programmers and software engineers (of course). So maybe Apple will get up to about 78,000.
 
Wearables are a difficult sell.

Unless Apple licences this technology out to fashion designers (which I doubt they will), this is not going to take off in any way similar to the iPhone.
Jony Ive is great at designing consumer technology, but not fashion.

Silicon Valley should not be in charge of what my outfit looks like.
