Went to Ikea yesterday and spent 1/5 of what I would have spent on the desk at The Container Store. I'm now the proud owner of a Galant series desk with a half round extension on the right, and a extension on the left. I'm still working on putting everything where I want it, but this is pretty close to how it will look when all is said and done.

Old Desk:

New Desk:

And since everyone seems to be intrested in everyone's cable management:

The DVI to display port adaptor that is hanging will get routed to the hole that is not yet finished to bring up to the MacBook Pro. To the right of the end of the picture is a 5 port gigabit ethernet switch. Only two wires go from the wiring trough to the ground, the one power strip to the UPS and one network cable. There will be another cable trough added to the other side, Ikea was out of them, but looking at the desk, the long one would have worked in that place as well... I still need to put a few things back in place, but I've extremely happy with the desk thus far. Plenty of space, which is good when you look at my old desk...

That looks great. I love my IKEA desk.

That's what I was thinking it was. I'm currently trying to decide between running my MacBook Pro on a stand open, or running it closed clamshell in a HengeDock. Both have their advantages, but I'm still torn on the decision...

I have an mStand, but I never use it. I just sit my Pro next to my monitor, especially since I got the Retina model. It seems a waste if I never use all the pixels I paid for.

I have a standard resolution 13" MBP so I use an external monitor when I'm at my desk. Not using the pixels on the laptop itself doesn't bother me. They get used enough when I'm not at home...

True enough, it still gives me that extra bit of screen space when needed though!

added an ipad1,1 for my wife (looking for a good cover with a stand if anyone has a suggestion) and a video monitor so i can try to get some work done while the kiddo naps. still need an arm to mount the monitor, i need to use the books propping the monitor up. tax return should be here soon so I will remedy the situation soon.

Here's my little work station. :) Sorry for the shocking iPhone photo!
  • 2x Dell 2209W 22" monitors in vertical mode
  • Late 2008 Macbook - MBP is getting fixed!
  • Panasonic KX-TG2511AL used for VoIP (There's an ATA adapter somewhere there..)
  • Samsung Story Station 1TB External HDD
  • iPad 2 16GB Wifi
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard
  • Logitech Performance M950

Love the 2209w's! I've got one of 'em. Best monitor I've ever owned.

I recently changed my setup from a 27" to a 21" to upgrade from the mid 2010 model to the newer iMac. It's a little less impressive to look at from 5 feet than the monster was, but it's one heck of a machine.I was never really able to absorb the entire real estate of the 27 anyway and I truly believe the 21.5 is perfect for home use. iPhone took the picture.

The 27 was a bit more impressive in size, but the HD facetime camera and all the other improvements in the 21.5 are well worth the upgrade to me.
