iPhone 5S to Include Both Fingerprint Sensor and NFC?

Fingerprint Sensor - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good - no password, just give your iPhone the finger to log on 😉
The Bad - probably won't work 100% out of the gate so I hope log in via finger is not the only option 😕
The Ugly - criminals cutting off your finger when they steal your phone 😱
 
So the iPhone would work with PayPass card machines? Or is this some other tech that won't be compatible with anything?

I was replying to the comment that nothing can be done... I just proved the contrary... by doing something with NFC. Geo fencing does not work as well, different profiles between different rooms in the house is not possible with geo fencing. I don't care how many people do it, I'm just saying I do it, I use NFC and they are not alternatives to it for me.

Even then some stores and places are left off that list. Not sure where you live, but in Houston I see them on vending machines, grociers and even some gas stations. Credit card terminals made after a certain point already have them built in.
 
Really not bothered about new hardware features just give me three things:

A better UI (so tired of iOS now and having to go through settings just to turn wifi on)

Cheaper content (£14 for a new film when its cheaper to buy a bluray.. Really?)

Cableless charging

I'm going to be contract ready for the 5S, bring it. Do want LTE and some new features and new software that always accompanies the S versions 🙂
 
These rumors. It's as though people just name the first features they can think of that the iPhone doesn't already have. It reads like a list of bullet points.

I hope they gain the 128 GB version, and delete the 16 GB version while maintaining current price points, but I have a hunch Tim Cook will make the same douchebag move he did with the iPad, keeping the old storage levels and simply adding the 128 GB version for another $100.

Steve Jobs would NOT have done that!
 
ok NFC, fair enough, but a fingerprint scanner ? really ? are apple THAT desperate for features now that they are adding already tried and failed tech from the 1980s ?
 
There are people here saying NFC is not useful. So, here is a very unscientific comparison of NFC use vs Siri use. I realize this is flawed but I think at least points in a direction.

Poll of NFC use from Android users: 45% use it to some degree (4365 polled)

Poll of Siri use from iOS users: 43.5% use it to some degree (5074 polled)

Not everyone has access to these features but both polls had that as an option so it should be valid for people with these features on their phone.

To reiterate, I know this is not a perfect comparison. The point is that NFC and Siri appear to have similar usage adoption.

Personally, I have Siri and never use it. I don't even like talking to people that much so why would I want to talk to my phone.

What would you innovate on the iPhone? Maybe add a coffee maker?

BTW... although I would not use NFC now, I could see where it could be useful to many people in regions where NFC is used more. Otherwise... I hope they keep upping the camera capabilities... probably the most used accessory of my iPhone and love how well it works for the quick snapshots. More would be better. 🙂

This scanner will not work unless the finger is connected to a "live" body. Something to do with sensing blood "flowing" through the finger. Looks like they will steal your phone and kidnap you and your finger.
 
More Fail !!

Unless Apple pulls it's head out the 5S will Fail against the S4 .
I foresee Apple losing more market share to Samsung this year.

Hope it works better than the pay pass or whatever visa version of that is on my credit cards, I am not sure if its the machines in store or my cards but I have a failure rate of 50% or more when trying to use it and have to go back to inserting the card. With a phone if it doesn't work or the terminal in store doesn't work you are screwed unless you have the actual card on you

Crapple will add NFC to the next iPhone and make like they invented the concept. Then they'll start filing lawsuits against other phone makers who have had NFC on their phones for years claiming they stole it from them.

No doubt a few fingers will be cut off before the thieves figure this out. Just like the "clerk does not know combination to safe" stickers don't really have the desired effect.

Anyway, true innovations in payments have nothing to do with NFC.

The real future: Having a fast food order ready to go on an app, and have the order placed and payment made automatically when you cross a GPS fence at the restaurant.

Samsung/NFC fanboy's vision of the future: Place your fast food order the normal way, then hand the clerk your phone through the drive-through window, where it is dropped into a puddle on the asphalt, cracking and waterlogging your phone, while providing no benefit over handing them a plastic card like you always have done.

They wont "invent" it, but they will invent the way to proper and actually useful implementation.
 
I'm hoping for a fingerprint scanner.

We require an 8-character passcode for iPhones, and users are constantly complaining about it being cumbersome.

A fingerprint scanner would solve the issue.

Um... tablet PCs were also tried and failed technologies. Touch screen smart phones were tried and failing technologies. This is what Apple does.
