All iPads If this is your first iPad, are you using it more than you thought you would?

I was in a very similar situation until about a year ago. I just did not see the point of the iPad. It didn't seem that much more portable than a laptop which could do so much more.

The thing that persuaded me was wanting an e-reader. I had a number of books and documents in pdf format that I printed out in spiral notebooks to read, but it was very disorganized. I didn't really like reading a book on a laptop either, and so I looked for something else.

My first choice was a kindle, the cheapest model. And while it was marvelous for books that were designed for the format, converting pdfs for it was a hit and miss affair, especially since the books I liked to read typically had lots of mathematical notations and diagrams.

And then I saw the iPad mini, and I thought it was just fantastic. I typically wear a sports coat, and unlike the iPad 4, the mini easily fit in my coat pocket and went along for the ride. I quickly developed a library of dozens of books, and I found other uses for the device too. It's useful for keeping copies of handouts and sheets for the classes I teach, as well as textbooks. It was great for gps. Yes, gps works on a phone as well, but I found it even more useful on a device that could show a decent sized map. And of course surfing the net or reading email in a cafe is much nicer on an iPad screen than on a phone.

I upgraded to the retina mini when it came out; I could hardly be happier with the device.

After buying an iPad Air, my first ever Apple product, I sold my Nexus 10 almost immediately. I used to think the aspect ratio was a bad point but after using it for a couple of weeks I love it. It's so much nicer for web browsing and reading in general. The only time it is weak is for full screen videos but I got used to the black bars in about 30 seconds. I miss the ability to share files easily between apps and an exposed file system in general though. Not being able to send things directly to Evernote or Google Drive is a real shame. But now I understand why so many people consider it in a league of its own. It's wipes the floor with every Android tablet I've tried, and that's quite a few.

I use it all the time, at work, at home, on the train and thanks to a waterproof pouch, in the bath once when I was feeling brave.

I was in the same boat as you. I was hesitant to get one and when I did I thought I'd only use it for reading and showing off photos. Having it almost a year and a half, I use it for alot more and it could almost be a laptop replacement. Within the next 2 years I will probably have to get an iMac for my kid for schoolwork and I am chewing on selling or giving away my MBP at that time, getting an iPad case with a keyboard and using the iMac as my main iTunes and photo center. The only thing I don't like doing on the iPad is typing.

I bought iPad 1 in 2010, used it for a couple of months, and since then it was collecting dust in the closet. The size was just not right. You need a bag to carry it, and it's too big to comfortably hold.

You know how a bird sees a roadkill and tries to take it and fly away but it's juuust a bit too big and heavy? And she finds herself in this awkward situation where she wants it, but can't have it.

Same with 10" laplets/baglets. They're just awkward to use.

7-8" true tablets are juuust purrrfect. I use my rMini all the time and it's on me almost all the time except when I sleep and shower.

Yup, this is my first iPad but not my first iDevice.

Have had a 10.1" Android tablet for a couple of years, didn't use it much and it only had wifi so for a lot of what I like to do it was pretty useless. Being a couple of years old, it was also relatively heavy.

On the other end of the spectrum, I've had iPhones (3G, 4S) and Android phones (Droid, Droid X2, Galaxy S3) and of those the GS3 has been my favorite due to screen size and general reliability/stability. The 4S screen was just too small and the GS3...well, I'm not a big fan of Android these days, specifically all of the ad-ware and background processes apps run that suck battery and make the device slower even when the apps are not in use.

So, I'd found some apps that were only on iOS that I thought would be nice to have, and because most of what I do on my devices requires Internet, I wanted wifi+cell.

Anyway, it's been almost a month and I still love my Air. It's the right size for my needs/wants, battery life in relation to performance and the display is incredible, and I definitely use it more than I ever thought I would. A lot of that has to do with mobile data and being able to take it with me in the car and still be able to do everything as if I were at home. Besides that, it's just integrated very nicely with my day-to-day life. It's been beyond useful and am afraid I'm hooked. I had debated getting a 4th Gen iPad, but I'm glad I waited.

The Air is my first pad, and I absolutely love it, I wanted the mini but after trying the Air I fell in love, I've only had it 3 days but I've not left it alone, my iPhone 5 usually gets charged every night due to the usage it gets, since having the iPad I've only had to charge the iPhone once as the iPad has the most usage now, it's a pleasure to browse the web, socialise and watch the odd video on YouTube, I think my Air will be getting a lot of usage time in the future

iPad is perfect for me on my bed watching Netflix movies. In the past, I had to use my macbook pro on my full size bed and feel not enough room to watch it.

Yes I am using my iPad Air alot at bedtime while lying on my back. I find browsing websites is much more pleasant on the iPad using hand gestures vs using a trackpad with a laptop.

My dream iPad would be a 128 GB 13" retina with USB port and running OS X. But Apple would never build one as it would cannibalize rMBP sales.

The iPad 2 was my first tablet, but since it was relatively hard to transport and such, I didn't use it very much. It's collecting dust in my desk at the moment. I then got the Mini and I'm using it frequently.
