I think typically those cards use RFID, not NFC. I could be wrong. Maybe they some use one and some use the other. I would like to see a phone be able to take the place of an access card.

Yes but NFC is an extension to RFID. So in theory it just a matter of software and compatibility.

I don't even see this as an option 99.9% of places I shop.

iBeacons, included with iOS 7 and using Bluetooth LE (iPhone 4s & newer), can do the same thing NFC does (and much, much more), but, without needing the chip. All it takes is businesses using the tech, which includes a bluetooth LE beacon, and payment will be implemented via our iTunes account (Apple is already in talks with retailers). I think we will see this partially implemented this holiday season, and more next year.

Once iBeacons is fully utilized, NFC will fade away.

Leave the states, realize how far behind the It is in mobile payments.

NFC will be the payment standard, merchants won't leave half of their costumers when they make the mobile payment investment.

Not officially but I did have a source ;)

From the recent announcements of involved companies, it seems that hundreds of people were involved in related setup and coding.

So yeah, you could easily have had a source :)

Heck, it turns out that NFC insiders started publicly blogging details about Apple using NFC from at least last March, but were ignored because: millions of blogs.

Knew it before March ;)
